A stageplay about my real life friend/ex-boyfriend: Fredy Adolfo Gonzalez De Leon Based on stories he told me about his life. The story of the only deaf child in a family in Guatemala. I recently entered this short "play" in a festival to be presented with actors around Father's Day.
I take a deep breath. βMikey. I can hear you.β The six syllables come out slower than I wanted them to. My voice shakes with each sound. Thereβs a long pause. βYeah.β He sounds confused, and I understand why. Of course I can hear him. Heβs on the radio. βYou donβt understand, though." Now it all comes out in a rush. "Iβve been deaf since I was six and I was in the car earlier and suddenly I could hear this radio station and Amazing Grace was playing but I couldnβt hear anything else
