โHere it is.โ She stated.
She opened the door and we went inside. She flipped the switch to the left of the door to turn the lights on. She walked to the center of the room saying โThis is the living room, the bedrooms is the first door to your right, the kitchen to your left and the bathroom is the second door to your right. Feel free to look around. Come see at the office when youโre done.โ She left shutting the door behind her.
The walls were painted a drab off white, the carpeting a pale beige from the early 80โs. Just a plan Jane apartments. I walked to the windows and pear out. I remembering thinking this will be perfect. The windows were exactly across from Mr. Edwinโs apartment. I would be able to watch him from there without any trouble and with the lights off there would be no chance he could know. I went back down to Mrs. Winstonโs office and let her know I wanted that one. I told her I would give her five monthโs rent now if she would waive the background and credit check. At first she said no, that everyone had to undergo those checks. She wasnโt going to put some lowlife in her building. I counted out $9600, this is the deposit and the five monthโs rent in advance like I said. Now I will also add another $1600 for your troubles if those checks are waived.
Her eyes brightened up and she saw all that money, she licked her lips and rubbed her hands together. I could see the moisture on her palms as her hands rubbed back and forth. She reached for the money, โSir you drive a hard bargain, when do you want to move in.โ She slowly started pulling the money back to her with her left hand and with her right she was reaching for the keys.
โRight now would be grand.โ I said.
โNow is fine. Iโll see you in five months for the rent.โ Mrs. Winston said.
I walked of her office closing the door. I thought it is always so easy to make greedy people do things they usually wouldnโt. I went up to my new apartment to start my planning. There came a knock at the door. I opened it to see Mrs. Winston standing there.
โSir. I didnโt get your name. I need that for the lease.โ She said.
I gave her another $3200 to insure there would be no lease and no need for my name.
