Chapter Four
βAlright, new blood.β Payne explained as we sat in the packed parking lot of Union Station. βYou are now ready to move on to phase two. We siege this transportation hub and rail system and by the time anyone even knows what in Carmen San Diego is going on we rid of it with just one big bang.β βNo.β I retorted simply. Payne turned to look at me and raise an eyebrow in utter surprise and confusion. βWhat?β βNo.β I repeated. βYou may have played me like a fiddle all this time and think youβve gotten away with it but I think itβs time we change paws to the other side of the game.β I flashed my badge. βNA police, motherfuckers.β Before either of the two canines seated in the backseat next to me could even picture going for their weapons and pulling the trigger on me, there were two shots that rang out from outside the car behind me and I watched as the windshield shattered into about a thousand or so tiny glass shards and they both toppled forward with their heads resting between the seats, bleeding profusely from a quarter inch hole in the backs of their heads. As if on cue, Gevo appeared, weapon drawn and raised right toward Payne as he slowly approached the rear of the SUV and helped me out. βAh. Right on time, brotha.β I said giving him a jovial slap on the back just as Payne took no notice of the weapon being pointed at him and took off like a shot down the stairs and toward the ground floor of the station. We hurriedly bolted after him and managed to gradually catch up about a few inches behind him through one of the gates when he suddenly dashed onto one of the waiting trains, the silver star almost immediately before either one of us even had the chance to nab him from behind. Within only a momentβs notice, the train slowly began to depart the station and Gevo raised his gun and fired four shots at the window where Payne appeared, almost completely forgetting about the bulletproof plated glass.
