plane with just the front wheels over the cockpit still intact, slammed to an upright position, with its belly now scraping the ground, the plane slowed fast, and shortly it came to rest,a little off centered on runway 7. Smoke was coming off hot metal on the plane, and the debris from the plane was strewn the full length of runway 7. Inside the plane not a single scream ,or not a single word was said, and all was quiet, for a few seconds, and the passengers could hear the ticking of cooling metal, and far away sirens that were approaching them fast. The attendants helped those that were able, to get unbuckled from their seats, and the balloon ramp from the plane was deployed, where the able bodied jumped to safety. The big man wanted to stay with Mary but, he was ushered off the plane by the attendants, and he was reassured that Mary would be well attended to, as soon as the emergency personal got there. All that was left in the plane now was Mary who was still unconscious and bleedingfrom her head wound and 6 passengers that did not make it, all lying strapped in on the right hand side of the plane, and of course the pilot. The pilot could still hear the sirens approaching, and he saw from his cockpit window, that the attendants got everyone off that could be moved, and now they were standing with them, far away from the plane. His co-pilot had left also, the pilot reached around, and grabbed his jacket from the back of the seat, and placed his pilotβs hat on his head, and put his jacket on. Taking one last look at the planes controls, and spotted what he was now after, on the visor. He tucked the picture in his jacketβs pocket, and left the cabin. He walked out to first class, and saw the damage, and the bodies of his passengers. He was getting ready to jump to safety when he heard a low moan. Someone here was still alive. Mary opened her eyes and tried to focus, her head was really aching, and she could feel something wet running down the back of her neck. She had no idea where she was, or what happened, and it was starting to slowly come back to her now!
Her head was now facing the gaping hole, where once a seat, with Betsy in it,once was, and now both were missing.
The pilot stepped into Maryβs view, as he stooped down to check her, and Maryβs eyes opened wide as Betsy appeared beside the pilot, Betsy gave him a kiss on the cheek, and hugged him, and she could hear Betsy plainly even though the pilot could not. βMary, this is my son Benny.β As she gave him another peck on the cheek, she said to him. βHappy Birthday Son.β Betsy now headed to the open gape in the plane, where she was once seated, with Maryβs wide eyes following. Benny turned to see what Mary was looking at, and now Benny also saw what Mary was staring at. It was his mother, and at first he wanted to reject the image, until he saw a single tear glistening on his motherβs face, in the November sunlight, from the hole. He watched with Mary as the tear streaked down her face, and fell from her chin, and into space. She smiled at them both and disappeared. But, before she left Mary heard one more thing from Betsy. βMary dear remember one thing.β βGod loves you, and he will never forsake you.β And then she was gone. Bennie after wiping his eyes, picked Mary up, and carried her off the plane amongst the cheers, and applause from the other passengers, and emergency personal.
Chapter 20
Mary drifted from being conscious to unconscious, and when she finally awoke in a hospital bed, the first sight she saw when she opened her eyes, was Bobby. He looked a little haggard, and he had a worried look on his face. He soon perked up though, when he saw that she was awake, and hurried to the bed to give her a peck on the cheek, and welcomed her back. He then told her that she had another visitor earlier, he stopped in to see how you were doing, and it was great meeting a hero, we sat and talked for awhile, and then he said he had to leave. His name was Captain Benny Williams,he is the pilot who carried you out from the plane, after the attendants thought you were deceased. I have the morning paper, if you would like to see the whole story. But, I have to tell you I was the journalist who wrote the article. Bobby grabbed the paper from the chair, that he was recently sitting in, and held it proudly out to his sister. Mary could see it was front page news, a photo of Captain Williams was on one side, and a photo of his mother was on the other. Mary was now speed reading to find out more about Betsy, and came to the part where now Mary understood why Betsy was on the plane. Mrs. Betsy Williamsβs body was not found, as the search continues on at the Worldβs Trade Center. Her grieving son, is a pilot for TWA airlines who stated that his mother came to New York City to trade in some stocks at Merrill- Lynch on September 11, 2001. As Mary read on about the crash, her heart almost stopped, when she saw the time that the crash was all over with, when Betsy was giving her only son a peck on the cheek, and wishing him a Happy Birthday, and it was 10:15 exactly. Mary thought yes, Happy Birthday Benny...
Epilogue
Things have changed since TWA 17βs crash. Mary is now making it a point to go to Sunday services again, and her brother Bobby is also seen with her. Her software was developed and Mary can relax for a little while. She made a little over 1,000,000.00 dollars on it. Bobby and Mary have bought a house in the Hamptonβs. Mary is now dating, and hoping to find the right man, and Bobby is still working for the paper, the only difference is he is the editor now. Bennie Williams is still flying. He and his wife have adopted a child, she is 3 years old now and her name is Betsy. When anyone asks Mary today about the crash. She has this to say.. Yes I was frightned, but I should not have been. Because God was there, and I was in the palm of his hand, and covered with his other.
