Hi, my name is Ben and I am 12 years old. I am a gifted student and I live in the small town of Deldrake, Wyoming. I go to a public school and study math and science. I have only one friend whose name is Calvin. He goes to the same school and studies literature. We only have one thing in common. We want to be noticed.
Chris and I are both sexy in our heads but unfortunately we both have never had a girlfriend and to the girls we look like a pile of crap. Chris has long black hair and keeps the skater type look or tries to. I on the other case am very simple. I have short military style cut hair which is brown and have hazel eyes. I always try to wear tight under armor shirts to let the chicks see my six pack but mom always complains that I am way to skinny and that they aren’t muscles they are ribs but at least I get away with ripped jeans. I only do one thing. Computer programming, I know you might think I am too young but I have a very good computer skill level and if you think I am a geek already, but I do exercise. I do Wii fit every day and I am the master at tennis on Wii sports. My skill level is 10000 and off the charts.
I have the biggest crush on this girl named Rebekkah at school she has an amazing voice and is a brunette. My dream girl. Any ways… well I am hoping I can get the guts to ask her out but doubt it will ever happen unless me and Chris’s plan goes right. Our plan is to. Ummmm. Well we haven’t organized one yet but we will and it will not backfire. Hopefully. Well we will have to talk it over tomorrow. Honestly I suspect Chris will get more girls then me with his “bad boy” look. It will get the girls at my school to finally stop rating nerds.
“Hey,” Said Chris. I was sipping from the water fountain right across from my 1st period classroom. “Hey,” I responded with water falling from my mouth as I spoke. “So I finally learned how to balance on my board,” he said in a tone as if he was in excruciating pain. “It wasn’t nearly as easy as Last night’s homework,” He said while sipping on the fountain next to me. “That was so easy!” I screamed as everyone suddenly looked at me. “I know you want to be noticed, but in a good way right?” Wondered Chris. “Definitely, sorry just it wasn’t that hard but everyone is going to complain about how hard it is. As long as we get the grade I guess it is fine,” “Ya,” responded Chris. I headed down the hall and he ran up and asked “Where are you going, your first class is right there?” “I feel like going home,” I responded. “Well you can’t!” He exclaimed. “Who said!?!” I screamed. I walked out the door and he tried to pull me back but I shoved him off.
As you can probably see, me and him are the biggest nerds ever, but I figured if I ditched school then there would be a big fuss about me missing and I would be noticed, but I am a little worried about me getting grounded and everything. Well at least people will talk about me all the time and they would remember the day I ditched school but at least I won’t have to stand in front of everyone and repeat how I got my answer and have Rebekkah in the back snickering while I show off my intelligence.
You know what sometimes I wish I had the guts to just go up to her and ask her out, but other times I see her boyfriend standing behind her and notice how tough he is compared to me. His name is Max and he is the most annoying person ever and I just don’t get him. He is crazy, he is stupid and like I said annoying. I have no idea how she fell for him, but I bet it was his football trophies. He has played for years and is the quarterback. If you think about it quarterbacks usually don’t have that many muscles because all they do is throw a ball and scream.
I want to start playing football but first I have to gain muscle and I know that this will be the hardest thing I have ever done but at least I have time to work out now because I skipped school. Well I might as well get started. My parents only have one exercise machine and it has almost every single workout on it. First I will try he butterfly. I have to push two handles together and it lifts the weights. I tried and tried but nothing. So I decided to do something else. I looked and looked and finally found something that would be easy. All I had to was put my legs in-between to comforts then lift the comforts up and down. I tried this and I it worked so I did this for hours. I worked out for ever and still nothing. My mother pulled up and I am usually not home from school yet so I had to find somewhere to hide. I ran in the kitchen at top speed and tripped over a step stool. I groaned and thought “I don’t have time for this, I have to keep moving.” My knee was bleeding and I was barely walking. I stumbled into the cabinet under the sink and hit my head on the pipes.
My mom walked by and she turned on the sink and I found out that there was a leak and that my head was bleeding. I jumped out and screamed. “What are you doing here!?!?” She yelled at me with the meanest tone of voice ever. “It’s not my fault,” I responded and confused myself as I said it. “ What isn’t your fault?” She wondered. “I will go to my room…” I said in a weakening voice. But as I walked away I remembered that my head was bleeding and so was my knee. I walked back and said “I am bleeding pretty badly from my head and my knee. I am starting to get dizzy,” and not even a second later I fell and hit the floor. I don’t remember much after that but I know that my mom rushed me to the Emergency Room. It was just some blood lose and I will be ok, but I know even worse punishment will come when we got home.
The only punishment I got even though I think it is really harsh is that she took my computer away. Well if I wasn’t a computer programmer then it wouldn’t be so harsh, but since I am my computer is my baby. Well I am on my way to school and we will see how everyone reacted
My mom took me to school today to make sure I didn’t ditch and it was one of the most embarrassing thing ever. She actually walked me into the school and talked to my teachers. While she was doing that I told her that I needed a drink and snuck off to talk to Chris. “Hey man what was the feedback from yesterday,” I asked Chris. By the way he looked at me I knew he wasn’t happy. I waited a few seconds then he finally answered. “Dude, you just lost a friend.” As he walked away I stopped him. “Wait, how did I lose a friend again?” I wondered. “Well first, they thought I was your accomplice and second… well there isn’t a second but still I am getting after school detention and well guess what. You got expelled.” I just stood there as he turned around and walked away. I had so much anger that I just ran up to him and punched him in the gut. He went straight back at me and tackled me. I kneed him in the crouch then punched him in the nose. By then there was a crowd around us both and it was cheering “ FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT! “ He was surprised that I attacked him but he did not give up. I finally got tired of it and threw his head into my locker door. He was knocked out cold after that. My mother walked out of the room and saw the blood all over the locker.
I was taken to the county Juvenile Detention Center and my mother said I deserve to stay there for a week or two. So I did. Somehow the fight made it onto the internet and a local youth Boxing center asked me to join and said it would get rid of my anger. My mom heard about this and said it would be good for me. After a week I had to go to my first practice and I noticed I was missing a lot of skills, but at the same time I remembered I used to be some geek. After the first practice I sat in my room and thought this is going to get me noticed.
Now with Chris out of the picture I wouldn’t have to worry about any friendships. So I can focus on fighting and hopefully I won’t have to go to school soon. I think this is my chance to be noticed.

8 years later

I am in a small town boxing league in California . I moved to California about a year ago and have been moving up in the league ever since. Who would’ve known that a small video could bring me that much publicity. I only have one more fight left until the National Championship and my that fight is tomorrow night. I have not had any good friends since then. Well I am going to get rested and ready for my fight.
My fight is coming up soon and I am completely ready. I am walking into the ring and the crowd is going crazy. I can’t believe the roar of the crowd. It is almost as loud as a freight train. I step into the ring and my opponent follows. I look at him and there is something very familiar about him except for a scar that stretched across his forehead. Then it came to me. Chris. I stood there in amazement. I am pretty sure he noticed the same thing but it just seemed to make him madder. I couldn’t be mad at him I gave him that nasty scar across his forehead. I think he had every right to be mad but then I heard a cheer from the side and all that was coming from that person was “Chris!” I looked at the woman and noticed something. It was Rebekkah. Rebekkah had come to the fight for Chris. That made me turn on him once more. The bell rung and right away he punched me in the jaw and I fell to the floor and stumbled to my feet.
I was as surprised as anyone else when I actually couldn’t get up in ten seconds after one punch and I couldn’t get up for another 3 days after that. What had happened is he punched me in the perfect place that had caused brain damage but after that I apologized and found out that Chris was not my scheduled opponent. I still think I deserved it though. Rebekkah was actually telling Chris to stop
