It all began on a sunny day in newleaf. My mate Manco was out collecting bamboo sticks for me, Lily, and my cubs who just started eating shoots. Their names are Todo and Tity. Todo looks like his father, black all over but a thin white stripe on his stomach. Tity looks like me ,white head, black body, and a fat white stripe down the middle.
We lived in a cave made of rock with dried bamboo on the floor. It was cozy.
I heard some big ,heavy thumps and I sniffed the air. It was Manco returning with bamboo stalks. The little ones were play fighting on the floor.
Manco said in gruff voice,β There have been some wild fires, but they arenβt near here.β I have seen the red and orange flames eat up some of the forest. It was scary.
Manco sat down. I leaned over and grabbed a short, green shoot. Todo and Tity came over and took a bite. I ate the rest of the shoot. Manco was on his second pole. After a long trek he was starving.
Every evening in quarter moon I visit my older brother, Kipa. Tonight I would go and visit him. I hope his den wasnβt burned by the fires.
βKipa are you home?β I asked in to the opening of the cave. No reply. I began to worry, it was late for him to be out in forest. He could be hurt out there by a jackel!
I crept into the mouth of his cave. It was dark so I couldnβt see very well. βKipa!β I called. A large moan filled the cave. Kipa!
βLil, is that you?β he asked quietly.
βYes, what happened?β I whispered.
βGotβ¦ caught in a β¦ trap.β
I was scared, I didn't know what to do! Was he going to be O.K?
"Are you O.K? The healer doesn't live to far away! I'll go get her! Let me put some cobwebs on the wound." I said.
I put the cobwebs on the vicious wound to stop the bleeding. I left him and ran to the healer as fast as I could.
Quickly, I arrived at the healer' cave. "Mona, are you in there?" I asked.
"Yes, who is it?" she replied.
"Its Lily, Kipa got caught in a trap set by the hunters! You need to come quickly."
"Okay, let me get my herbs." Mona got her herbs and ran after me.
"He's over here" I whispered quietly.
His breath was barely audible, but his wound had stopped bleeding. I prayed to the ancient goddess of healing to help him.
In the morning I woke up. I had been there all night! Mona had tried everything to help him. I had gotton so tired I had just drifted of to sleep.
"Lily, there is only one thing that will save your brother, nothing has improved his health." Mona said to me when we were eating breakfast.
"What?!" I nearly shouted.
"You must travel to the top of Hoko Loko, and on the top is a rare purple flower. You will have to go get the flower and bring it t me." Mona explained to me.
Before my jaw could hit the ground there was a ferocious grumbling. Hunters!
