I was born an outcast. A stranger. But I was proud of it. And nothing could defeat me.
I was a silver owl.
A race that humans have never seen. They are too blind. We come out only when the moon is full, when it's fabled that werewolves and vampires flood the night. We flit across the night sky, faster than an angry yellow jacket, swifter than the bird who is named after it. We are the silver owls.
But I was an outcast in the outcasts. I was pure black, blacker than ruffled velvet. I was thrown out as soon as I could fly, and was left alone in the world. I am called Alric.
Silently I swooped down from my position in the air to capture a large mouse. I almost had my talons on it when... SWOOSH!
It was stolen by a pretty-looking female silver owl. I grunted and flew off, hiding my disappointment as I listened to the silver owl flapping clumsily to keep up with me. I stopped abruptly.
"What do you want?" It was almost a statement.
The female barely had time to realize she was going to bump into me. But she did; sending her dropping ten feet down. I dropped too; not giving up making her answer my question.
"What do you want?" This time I hardened the question, pronouncing every word slowlier.
"Oh... uhm.." She looked around before finally meeting me. Her blue eyes widened. "Holy Silver!" She exclaimed. "You're... You're real?"
She stuttered. "W-I mean I-used to hear stories about you... You-You're name..." I sighed irritably. "Alric," I scanned the ground for a tree, and upon finding an Oak, I swooped down, landing on it, getting comfortable in my silky feathers. The female flew down, too.
She scanned me again, as if she were dreaming. "I-I'm so sorry... I thought you were just another silver," She said, shivering a bit. I sighed, scooting closer to her, but barely, making it so that over time I'd get closer to her without her noticing.
"I am an outcast. It's stupid. Just because I'm..." I pointed out one of my wings. "Black." It was barely a whisper, almost inaudible. She nodded.
"In the... I guess you could say legends, it was said that you were a bloodthirsty devil," Her feathers raised a bit. I chuckled, shuffling my long, curved, midnight black talons. I lifted one up.
"I do look like one, don't I?" I looked at her eyes, making my pupils narrow a bit. She shuffled over a bit.
"Y-no," She said, looking down. I rolled my eyes, muttering, "I'm glad I wasn't raised normally. They seem so... timid."
She looked at me, her feathers flatter than I thought possible. "I can be fierce," she fluffed herself up, making her only appear like, two times bigger than she already was. I snorted, fluffing myself up. I was five times larger than normal when I did it; I guess defense came with being an outcast.
"Let's see what ya got," I dove down out of the tree, coming up at the last moment. I flapped to get higher; and I heard her clumsily flapping furiously after me. I stopped, hovering, and turning around to face her. I blew out a breath.
"Glide," I said, spreading out my wings for a bit, demonstrating.
"We were made for it. Flap a bit angled upwards; it'll make you go faster. Also, believe you can do it. After all, you are a Silver Owl," and with that, I turned around, flapping up.
I heard her grunt.
And then everything melted away.
When I woke up, everything was blurry. I was in a strange-looking nest filled with see-through things that were hard. I'd discovered this by trying to escape like fifty times; but it was of no use.
<What could resist the strength of an over-sized, and the species is already large, silver owl?> I thought, shaking my head, and I looked around. The room was all white, and had a few shiny, peculiar-looking things. Most of them were slender, and had two parts, much like a split branch.
Before I could take in anything else, I saw an odd thing enter the room. It had long feathers on its head, and was featherless on most of its other parts. It was odd, though; it covered itself up with multi-colored objects. It had its odd head, with was flat, and beak-less, on a stick. Its body was very long, and instead of talons, it had even longer sticks below a long mid-section. It moved these sticks to walk. It had shorter sticks on it's sides, which ended in odd-looking talons.
It was coming towards me.
I backed up, my eyes narrowing. The odd-looking creature spoke a bit of jibberish, but it sounded unthreatening, so I became less opposed. The thing started fidgeting with a little design on my enclosure I hadn't noticed before. Before my eyes, I watched as the enclosure surrounding me opened. I bursted out, flying at the thing's eyes, and I heard it shriek with terror.
The... thing
was holding a strip of something the color of bark. It was grasping them with its talons. I flew up to an opening in the room where others of the weird creatures were coming in, and zoomed past... To find myself in darkness. Again.
I was in metal bars. Those stupid creatures; they must have figured my strength out. When I managed to look down, I saw slender-looking things that seemed to beep all over me.
((SORRY! I know it's a cliff hanger but don't worry. I'll come up with more soon!))
