Chapter 1
He hides in the shadows of the alley way. His form masked by the darkness of the city, while his eyes follow the five figures walking by. A smile appears on his features, grinning from ear to ear showing his sharp teeth. The five unaware of the presence that now follows them. He stays behind making sure that he’s not to noticeable. His prey then walks into an empty street; he thinks to himself that he’s found an easy meal. One of the five notices him tailing them and turns around demanding why he is following them. He smiles his toothy grin again and answers simply “The reasoning behind me following you is because I’m going to kill you”.
One week earlier; “Do you really think this place will help you remember?” “I’m not very sure, but it’s the only lead I have right now”. Trailing on a path to a city was Hikaro and Guro. Hikaro was a fallen angel who lost his memory of where he came from and his purpose in life when he crashed on earth. Humans wouldn’t glance at him because of his blue hair, and eyes with his pure white wings. Guro is a talking dog with light brown fur and strange green eyes; he is also Hikaro’s pet. The city in which the duo is traveling to is called the City of Shadows. This city is where different races inhabit all except human races. “I think this is the worst idea you’ve had so far, I mean this is the most dangerous city ever built!” “So, what if it is right now all of the other places we have visited didn’t help me get even a little of my memories back”. Guro breathed a sigh and nodded showing he gave up on convincing him that it was a bad idea.
The two reached a bridge where on the other side were dead trees and dark skies that matched the color of the grass. Hikaro walked over the bridge with no problem, Guro on the other hand was shaking like a leaf. “What are you doing Guro? Hurry up and cross the bridge” “You want me to go over to that death trap of a city; you have lost your mind!” Hikaro rolled his eyes and continued walking. Guro knowing he didn’t want to be left alone ran up over the bridge to Hikaro’s side. “You weren’t going to leave me back there were you?” “Sure, whatever you say” They continued walking down the pale gray stone path, looking at the dead trees as they go by. Guro broke the silence “Hey, Hikaro I’m tired and the sun is going down can we please set up camp for the night” Hikaro nodded and ran to a nearby tree and sat down. He started setting up camp, such as a fire, sleeping bags, and getting some food that they bought from the town before here. As the moon came up the fire still going, both going into their sleeping bags as sleep started to overcome them.
As they awoke the next morning they noticed that their camp had been ransacked. Wrappers and partly eating food everywhere, Hikaro frowned at the sight while Guro hid under his sleeping bag. Hikaro notices footsteps in the gray grass, he stood up and grabbed Guro by the tail and dragged him along. The footsteps stopped at the base of a tree, Hikaro looked around seeing no sight of the thing that destroyed their camp. “Now what are we going to do, are camp was destroyed by something and we don’t even know how far this city is” Guro had panic in his voice. “Well I can solve that for you, the thing that destroyed your camp was me” Hikaro looked up into tree above him and saw a girl about his age. She had white hair that was put into a pony tail and had golden eyes with wolf ears and tail. She wore light brown jacket and a red vest with a white shirt and some Japanese symbols and had black pants, on her back was a sword as longs as her upper half. She wore no shoes and from her smile he could see that she had fangs. Hikaro came to the conclusion that she was a demon, an angel’s worst nightmare.
Chapter 2
She smiled at Hikaro frowning at her “Well you seem angry for someone who I just helped figure out who destroyed their camp” Hikaro smirked which caught the wolf demon off guard, that wasn’t the reaction she was thinking of. “You truly disgust me demon, I have no interest in talking to scum like you” He smirked feeling smug about his response, the demon frowned “I’m not scum, my name is Akuma” Hikaro rolled his eyes “I don’t care what your name is; right now your scum to me”. Akuma looked away in the distance; Guro snatched his tail from Hikaro’s hand and turned only to see a demon. He yelped and ran behind Hikaro looking from behind him. “From what I can tell your going to the City of Shadows” She looked straight into his eyes and Hikaro could see no evil in them, which puzzled him because he has, ran into other demons and can see only pure evil aura in their cold-heartless eyes. She continued “To make it up to you how about I take you to the city” Hikaro and Guro’s jaws dropped to the ground, Hikaro narrowed his eyes in suspicion, but relaxed seeing that this demon was different from the others he’s encountered. “That seems reasonable giving to what your actions were, we agree to allow you to take us to the city” Akuma’s smile returned to her face, she jumped from the tree and landed in between them “I have a question by the way, what are your names?”
After finding their names out, Akuma led them down the path. “It should be another day until we reach the city because all of the other towns, villages and cities wanted to be as far from the City of Shadows as possible” Guro had uneasiness in his voice “I had to ask this…Akuma, but how do we stay out here another night if we don’t have any supplies” Hikaro brows furrowed in annoyance “Yes indeed demon, since you destroyed our camp we have no supplies”. Akuma rolled her eyes “Well don’t worry I have that covered, in a while we should see a little hut, and stop calling me demon you know I have a name” Hikaro stopped in his tracks, eyes clearly showing anger “I couldn’t give any more of a care about your name, if you haven’t noticed I’m a angel and you’re a demon there’s no way we can get along, do you not understand that?” Akuma looked away and sighed “Is that written in stone anywhere?” Hikaro gave a puzzling look at her words and looked to Guro. Guro was the one who found Hikaro when he crashed and told him everything he knew about angels and demons, also about the humans and other subjects and from what Guro told him angels and demons they don’t get along. Guro looked down “Well no its not written anywhere, but all the books I’ve seen have pictures of demons and angels fighting, so I just thought that it was that way” Guro looked up at Hikaro “You see Hikaro most demons despise angels and humans a lot only some are nice, but its very hard to tell. We don’t even know if she is an evil demon or a good one” From that point on they walked in silence.
Akuma looking at the sky with a depressed look in her eyes, Hikaro on the other he was been enjoying the silence that was upon them. Guro was looking at Akuma, watching her as she scanned the sky. It was getting dark and all of them were getting hungry, none of them complaining about there stomachs. “Hey, there’s the hut and just in time it’s getting dark” Akuma then starting running off the path into the ugly colored grass, Guro bounded to keep up with her with Hikaro right on Guro’s heels. Akuma disappeared into a small hut no bigger than a little cottage. Hikaro and Guro stopped not going any closer to the hut in fear of what was inside. After a few moments, Akuma appeared again “Hey stop standing around like logs and come in its already very dark out” Hikaro shook himself from his stupor and nodded. Akuma held open the door for Hikaro as he dragged Guro through the door. He was welcomed by the scent of cat nip; he scanned the insides of the hut. There were pillows everywhere with different patterns and different colored lights that resembled Christmas lights; there were also a scratch post and a basket of yarn balls. “Ah, my old friend Akuma and what do I owe the pleasure of seeing you here” A figure came from out of a dark corner. Hikaro saw that he was a cat demon noting the ears and tail. He had green eyes narrowed into a slit with black hair that matched his ears and tail; he wore a dark red scarf with bells on the end that jingled every time he moved, he also had a black tank top on with black pants and shoes. “Well you see me and my new friends were on our way to the City of Shadows and were wondering if you could let us stay here for the night” The cat demon nodded “Any friend of Akuma is a friend of mine, by the way my name is Chess” Hikaro ignored Chess and walked pass him and sat down. Chess looked at Akuma puzzled and Akuma just waved it off telling him to let it go “I’ll tell you later” Chess nodded and said nothing more of the subject. Guro was different then most dogs because he didn’t mind cats too much, and also he was too exhausted to care if the host was one. Guro finding a soft lump of pillows and plopping into them and fell asleep. Hikaro sighed, also being very tired sat down and pulled up a blanket and grabbed a pillow. Yawning as he placed his head on the fluffy pillow, staring at Akuma and Chess as they talked until sleep claimed him. Akuma looked at Hikaro and smiled “Well now that he is asleep, lets het down to business Chess” Chess got a wicked smile “Ah yes indeed, so you’re going to use the angel and dog to help you with your plans” Akuma smirked “Yes they will be very useful in achieving my goal” Guro eyes went wide, the only reason why he work up is because Hikaro wasn’t the quietest one in the world. Guro thought to himself “Hikaro and me are just being used by this insane wolf demon” Akuma and Chess continued talking about other things, but Guro was not listen the only thing in his head that was repeating itself over and over “Yes, they will be very useful in achieving my goal” Guro forced himself back into sleep.
The next morning Guro got up and yawned, shaking the sleep from his body. He felt relaxed until the memories of last night came flooding back in and he looked around the room only to see Chess curled into a ball and Akuma sleeping up right with a hand on the hilt of her sword that was on her back. Guro thought that must be a habit; he then looked at Hikaro who also was still
