The Last Vampire I: Part One

Vampires were deemed as a dangerous species by the Holy Church and, as an effect, vampires were hunted to near-extinction. The number of vampires remaining in the world became unknown as Vampire Hunters killed off every vampire they could find no matter gender, sex, race, or age.

A red-headed young girl with pale skin and a fragile-looking body, which is a signature look of a vampire, was found out to be a vampire by three orphans. The orphans discovered the girl in an alleyway, crying softly to herself. The orphans attempted to console the young girl, but after her fangs were exposed they chose to attack her. “You’re a monster!” shouted the oldest of the orphans with a chubbier body and wearing a loose sweater.

“Kill yourself, vimp,” slurred one of the orphans with dark scruffy hair and wearing a torn windbreaker.

“You’re an abomination to humanity!” shouted the last of the orphans, a female, with brown hair that went to her jaw and wearing a loose jacket and jeans. She looked to be the youngest of the group. The oldest orphan proceeded to kick the young girl, making contact in her face. The girl dropped to the side and grabbed her face. The other two orphans followed the oldest and started kicking the girl in the stomach.

“Stop!” the girl shrieked. “Stop! Help!”

“Ain’t nobody helping you vimp!” shouted the oldest orphan.

“Yeah, vimp!” shouted the female orphan.

“Die! Vimp!” shouted the last orphan. Their kicks tore apart an old wound of the girl, spewing blood onto the dirt-infused concrete. The girl’s shouts of pain were ignored by passersby, who didn’t intend on involving themselves with vampires.

“Hey!” shouted another orphan, who appeared from the other side of the alleyway. “Leave her alone!” The three orphans froze in place for a few seconds before making a break for it. They ran away leaving the girl bloodied and unconscious. “What have they done to you?” He muttered. The orphan checks for a pulse before picking up the girl and carrying her to the orphanage he lives at. Once there, he drops the girl off at the orphanage’s clinic. The orphanage’s doctors worked quickly and efficiently, not noticing the telltale signs of a vampire, and were able to close her wounds. They delivered her to a room to observe her condition. The doctors, after stabilizing the girl, asked the orphan about her background, but he dodged their questions by claiming that he had no prior knowledge about her. The doctors stop their questions and leave the orphan to stay with the girl.

The Last Vampire II: Horizon Closing

The girl woke up in a sturdy bed with a fluffy and appealing-looking blanket atop her. She looked around the room in a daze, noticing a boy around her age resting his head on the end of her bed. She got out of bed and stood on the clean and anti-dust hardwood floors. The room had one long window that breathed in a new life after every sweep of wind. The window displayed a small piece of beauty. The trees extended high into the air, the tops out of sight. The blades of grass stood up straight and attentively. The girl’s eyes started tearing up, drops of tears falling on the ground. She heard sounds coming from behind her. She turned around and noticed the boy waking up. He got up and turned around to face her. She noticed that the boy wore torn and worn-out clothes. His plain tee shirt and jeans looked to be from the trash. His messy green hair folded into a wave hanging above his head. The boy focused on the girl while trying to clear off his tiredness.

“Good morning,” He said, a yawn appearing.

“Who are you?” She asked, her body getting into a defensive pose with her hands extended in front of her.

“I’m Tasu, an orphan here. I found you in an alleyway being mistreated by some of my fellow orphans.” He tilted his head to look out of the window. He waved at an orphan who stood in the garden of eve outside. The girl glanced behind her and noticed the same orphan. “If you’re concerned about them, then don’t be. They’ve been scolded and punished already by the sisters.” He turned around and headed to the front door, his hand grabbing ahold of the doorknob.

“Why did you save me?” The girl asked.

“I saw that you were in trouble, do I need any other reason aside from that?” The girl opened her mouth to speak, but no words carried out. “Anyways, what’s your name?”

“A-Angelina.”

“Angelina? That’s a nice name.” He started turning the doorknob. “You’ll be safe from the hunters here.”

“Hunters?” She whispered. “How do you know I’m-” She was cut off by Tasu.

“Don’t! You’ll cause problems if you finish your sentence.” Tasu said. “I know that you’re one of them. The species that have been hunted to near-extinction.”

“How?” She asked.

“I’ll tell you later. Now I’m here to welcome you to… ” He announced, swinging the door open. “Greenfire!”

The Last Vampire III: Greenfire

Angelina walked past Tasu and into the hallway. She looked around and noticed the walls were full of children’s drawings. On both ends of the hallways were orphans on the ground covered by toys and games. An adult wearing a habit, a nun’s most common outfit, with only her face being exposed. She smiled at Angelina with her light brown eyes. “Why, you must be the young lady that Tasu saved.” She said with a cheerful and mesmerizing voice.

“This is Sister Marie. She helped get bandages for you while you were unconscious.” Tasu said.

“U-U-Uh, t-thank y-you,” Angelina muttered.

“Well you must be hungry, so follow me to the cafeteria. We’ll serve you a nice hot lunch.” Sister Marie said. Angelina nodded and followed Sister Marie to the cafeteria along with Tasu. They went to the cafeteria which is crowded with orphans of varying ages and races. Elves, humans, werewolves, beastkins, and every other race co-existed in the cafeteria. Some kids wore tattered clothing while others wore bare minimum in shoes and shorts/pants. Kids started throwing food around and interrupting conversations. A food fight started brewing. “Tasu, do you mind getting Tessa and Nate to keep the kids in control?” Sister Marie said.

“Got it,” Tasu said. He ran off towards the food line and talked to his friends.

“This really is Greenfire?” Angelina asked.

“Yes, an orphanage with over 200 kids. This orphanage has a garden in the core which serves as a morale raiser and a very important aspect of Greenfire.” Sister Marie detailed.

“W-Why… Why did that boy save me?” Angelina asked.

Sister Marie let out a sigh. “Tasu is the type of boy who would never leave someone in pain or suffering by themselves. He always wants to make sure everybody is well taken care of. He doesn’t discriminate against any person for their race… even a vampire.”

Angelina tensed up and her fingers balled up. She bit her lip and her hands started shaking. “Don’t worry, I have no resentment towards vampires. Neither do any of the other sisters as we devote our lives to helping orphans, no matter the race.” Sister Marie told her. “Make sure you use your magic to hide your horns and tail. Only Tasu and I know about your background, so don’t tell anyone else about it.”

Angelina nodded, tears forming in the corner of her eyes. “Thank you,” she whispered. Her tears rolled down her cheeks. Everybody treated her as a monster and never as a proper human being.

A glass cup shattered with the shards flying in every direction. “Oh my, another fight.” Sister Marie said.  She rushed over towards the food line where Tesu, Alex, and Tessa faced off against four human orphan boys. “Separate them!” Sister Marie shouted. None of the sisters could get close enough to prevent the face-off.

“What’s happening?” whispered Angelina.

“Tasu is famous as the fighting champion. Those kids must be here to try to take the title.” Sister Marie whispered back. “They’ve been doing this countless times already. No matter what, Tasu has beaten them without any help from Tessa or Nate. He’s the strongest one here aside from the director.” Angelina’s eyes lit up. She watched as both sides held a stalemate with neither side chancing the first attack.

The Last Vampire IV: Greenfire 2

Tasu, Alex and Teresa awaited the first punch; The other side did the same. The boys---whose ages ranged from 8 to 13---are orphans who want to claim the title of the best fighter in the orphanage. Tasu created the title after beating up all the bullies of a little girl. The girl is from the werewolf race and, at the time, was the only werewolf at the orphanage. The orphanage, four years before Angelina appeared, was composed mostly of humans. Other races---including werewolves, elves, beastkins, demi-humans and so on---were later accepted into the orphanage because of a director change. The previous director was hellbent on excluding people from other races. This changed when the current director came into power. She was able to cut off the resentment by slowly integrating people from other races into the orphanage and letting them get to understand each other. Over the course of four years, the different races got to know each other and created a safe and relaxed atmosphere that is necessary for the children to grow up in. Unfortunately, fights between the champ, Tasu, and his attackers are constant, which temporarily breaks the atmosphere.

One of Tasu’s attackers swung first. The swing missed and only pushed the boy forward because of the momentum. Tasu used
