Once upon a time there was a little boy named Tony who lived with his father. They were very poor and often they had nothing to eat. Each morning before Tony went to school, his father would share a piece of bread with him. One morning, Tony sat down at the breakfast table.
βFatherβ said Tony, βwhere is our bread?β
βI am sorry Tony, but there isnβt any more bread. Can you go to the forest and find some food for us to eat?β
Tony went to the forest. He collected some ripe fruits to share with his father. While he was doing this, he saw an old house near the river.
An old woman was sitting in a rocking chair on the porch. Her hair is as white as snow. She looked at Tony and offered him something to eat. The old woman, who is as old as the hills, disappeared into the house. When she came out again, she was carrying a funny little bag. The old woman handed Tony the strange little bag.
βMy child, this is a magic bag,β said the old woman.
βJust say to the bag, βLittle bag, little bag, bake.β
The bag will shake. Then it will make bread as sweet as pie and as soft as teddy bear. After you have had enough to eat, just say,
βLittle bag, little bag, stop and thank you!β The bag will stop baking.
Tony thanked the woman. Then he ran home to show his father the wonderful magic bag. That evening, the little boy repeated the magic words he had been taught.
ββLittle bag, little bag, bake! ββ
After the bag shook, delicious bread appeared. They ate until they were full. Then Tony said,
βLittle bag, little bag, stop and thank you!β
Every day they ate all the delicious and soft as pillow bread they wanted. They shared their bread with their neighbors. Life was good as gold for them, until a greedy neighbor peeked into their window just as the boy was repeating the magic words.
βI must have that bag!β he said.
One day while Tony and his father were out, the neighbor stole the bag.
He repeated the words,
ββLittle bag, little bag, bake.ββ
Delicious bread appeared. He ate until he could not eat another bite. But he couldnβt get the bag to stop! The floor filled with lots of bread and into the streets. People ran out of their homes to get some bread. Soon, however, the bread made such a terrible mess that they began to worry. When Tony and his father returned, Tony said nicely,
βLittle bag, little bag, stop and thank you!β
The magic bag stopped baking. The greedy neighbor realized that he should not have taken what did not belong to him. The villagers all helped clean up. Tony and his father went back home and shared their bread with everyone for the rest of their days.
