“Flight 101 will take off shortly. Please strap in and prepare yourselves. All electronics must be turned off or on airplane mode before take-off.” A flight attendant announced over the PA system. “Make sure to rest up, it’s going to be a long eight hours.” She put the microphone into its spot, turning towards the cockpit. However, she stopped short, turning into a small area for the other flight attendants.

Kyle strapped himself in, his right hand trembling. His left hand shot towards his right wrist, grabbing it and stabilizing his hand. He let out a sigh of relief. I’m free. They can’t find me. In eight hours, I’ll be in London, away from them. I’m free!

He looked up, glancing at the person next to him. It was a woman his age, appearing to be in her late teens. She had long blonde hair that stopped halfway down her back. She had ghostly white skin that matched with her bright blue blouse and whitish jeans that ran down her legs, creeping up at the edge.

She had charcoal eyes, thin lips, and a round face. Her face wasn’t shaped long or overly round. Her nose was small, the same classification as her height. She looked to be a year or two older than Kyle, but he was taller than her.

She glanced at him and the two kept eye connection, Kyle audibly gasping before looking away. He looked out of the window next to him. He took a long-drawn-out breath as he stared into his charcoal eyes. His eyes stared at him with misery. He had seen enough of the horrific side of the world at sixteen years old.

He looked down and observed, from his reflection, his black bomber jacket. It had scratches and was torn at the sides. It did its best to cover Kyle’s slightly lean body to little success. It was a size too small, his long-sleeved black tee being exposed, and hugged him tightly.

His jeans weren’t in better condition. Holes at the knees and loose strings at the bottom. Multiple stains of unknown causes were everywhere, changing the original light blue jeans to grey.

His shoes were tattered, the tongue ripped off, and a toe poking out of his right shoe. His attire had seen better days.

Kyle faced forward, pulling out a piece of paper and a flip phone. He had the phone shut-off, acting under the rules given to him by the flight attendant - leaving it on his lap. He opened up the piece of paper, reading off the instructions in his mind.

Everything’s been prepared. Take this seven hundred dollars and buy yourself a ticket to London. We’ll be waiting for you there. Unlike my brother, you’ll be welcomed here. Just remember, don’t let them see this letter. Pretend that you’re going to a friend’s house, not the airport. They’ll catch you and bring you back. You’ll be locked inside the house. That’s if they catch you, so make sure to be sneaky.

Call me once you’re on the plane and we’ll wait for you at the airport. Once you’re in our arms, we’ll say, “welcome home.” We want you. My brother doesn’t. - Henry.

He picked his eyes up, facing forward. In eight hours, I’ll be… I’ll be home.

Kyle opened the flip phone, checking the time. It had been three hours since departure. He could now see the Atlantic Ocean out of his window. They looked refreshing, glittering under the sunlight. Everything looked beautiful.

“Wow, such beauty” He muttered. He brought a hand up to his mouth, surprised and embarrassed at himself. He didn’t expect his thoughts to leak out.

The girl next to him looked at him strangely. She heard him, watching as he sheepishly looked down at his flip phone. She then looked away, pulling out her phone, the newest iPhone X. She scrolled through her social media, looking at pictures of herself, before hearing a short yelp. It came from in front of her.

Kyle heard the yelp as well, his focus trained on the seat in front of the girl. He watched as the person stood up; a middle-aged man with balding hair that left an ‘M’ shape and with loads of blubber on him, plenty to spare.

“You! You wrench! Look at what you did.” He showed off his stained business suit. “You dropped coffee on me. Can you afford a ten-thousand-dollar suit?” He asked her rudely.

“I apologize, sir, I-I-I-I didn’t mean to do anything.” A flight attendant told him, her name tag reading “Lucy”. She wasn’t the same attendant from earlier, appearing to be a trainee by her stammering and constant bowing. The businessman grinned as she bowed at him.

“Still, I need compensation. Simple apologies do me no good.” He told her, one of his fists balling up. He took a step forward, grinning as she cowered under him. “Good, you understand how to act.”

A man in his early twenties shot up from his chair, a few rows in front of the businessman, and turned to face the man. He approached him with long strides. This man was buff, appearing to be working out daily, and had deeply tanned skin. His black hair was parted to his right, gelled in position.

He raised his hand and slapped the businessman with one loud ‘thwack’. The man fell into his chair, landing awkwardly. “There’s your compensation.”

The man looked at Lucy. “You can return to work, leave this bastard to himself. If he dares to make more trouble-” He raised his fist. “-he’ll get the business side of my fist.” He glared down at the stumbling man. The businessman tried to excuse his attitude but fumbled over his words.

“I was… Going to… I didn’t need to… Why did… I didn’t mean to…”

The man leaned in closer to the businessman. “You won’t dare cause more trouble for her or anybody else here right?”

The businessman violently shook his head. “Y-Yeah, not a-anymore!” The man nodded, standing straight. He reached out, grabbing the businessman’s shoulder, and began rubbing it.

“That’s good because you know what happens.” He tightened his grip on the businessman’s shoulder, getting a yelp out of him.

“Yes, I know!” He shouted, trying to escape the death-grip the man had on him. Fortunately for him, the man was done. He released him, turning to Lucy to apologize, before walking back to his seat. He sat down without issue, resuming a movie on his iPad.

The businessman whimpered, looking away in embarrassment. The person next to him inched away, their body as far as the chair would allow them. They didn’t want anything to do with him.

The incident was resolved but left tension in its wake. Everybody returned to their activities, some stealing glances at the businessman and the sweaty and seething mess he became. He was angry at the man that embarrassed him, but couldn’t act yet. For now, he sat in his chair while searching for an opportunity to get his revenge.

Kyle ignored the man’s mumbling, looking out of the window as the clouds covered the outside. The clouds were puffy hopes following him on his adventure. Five more hours. He thought. He had five hours before landing in London.

Then, suddenly, nature called. Kyle stood up, asking the girl to let him by. She shifted her legs to let him through, turning them back in place after he left. He rushed off to the bathroom, occupying it while leaving the girl behind to continue reading. She had a book in her hands, titled ‘The Day The World Broke’, taking her finger off the page she was reading and opening the book up. She dug her face into the book.

An elderly man rose from his seat, watching Kyle leave. He slowly crept up to the girl, his phone in hand. He turned on the camera function as he approached her. Within a few inches of her, she turned her attention from her book to him. She squinted her eyes, trying to figure out his purpose.

“Can I get a selfie? I won’t expose your secret if I get one.” He whispered to her. He showed her his phone.

“I’m sorry, why?” She asked him.

“You’re Emma Chavez, a teen model. It’s not hard to notice you with your famous long blonde hair.” He touched her hair, Emma flinching upon his dirty touch. “You should’ve worn a hat or a mask to hide yourself. You must be an amateur if you went out like this.”

She smacked his hand away. “You must be an amateur to touch me like that.”

The man rubbed his hand as he crouched down, leaning in. “You must be an amateur if you think a single smack will deter me.” He grinned menacingly.

She spat in his face, attracting the attention of a few nearby passengers. “Go to hell.” Her nose flared.

The man shook his head. “I’ll meet you there.”

Kyle, meanwhile, had exited from the bathroom, taking a step forward and poking his head at Emma and the man. He ducked behind, stepping behind a wall, not being noticed. He watched the two share rather unkind words. He lingered behind the wall, waiting to act.

“Sir, can I ask you to return to your seat.” The flight attendant that was talking over the PA system told him. He apologized before heading back to his seat as Emma and the man were still having their spat.

“Excuse me,” Kyle said to the man, who looked at him with disgust. “This is my spot here.” He pointed at his seat.

“Well, I still need a selfie.” The man said, shrugging Kyle off.

Kyle balled up his fists, but slowly loosened the tension between his fingers. “Excuse me.” He repeated, shoving the man out of the way. The man quickly shot up to his feet, approaching Kyle and trying to intimidate him. Kyle didn’t budge, glaring at the man. They stared at each other intensely, both not stepping down. Neither of them would’ve if the man from earlier, who took down the businessman, coughed. He was staring at them, the man Kyle faced more intensely.

“Mind sitting down, Flynn.” The man remarked.

“How do you know my name?” Flynn asked, one eyebrow raised.

“Your carry-on has your name on it. I don’t know the kid’s name since he has nothing on him.” The man said.

“What’s your name, huh?” Flynn asked, now irritated. “Since you’re some kind of detective, you must have a badge on you.”

“Ryder. Name’s Ryder, not a detective, I just have a brain.” The insult was directed at Flynn.

Flynn pushed past and tried to reach Ryder, but was stopped by the flight attendant that sent Kyle to his seat. “Excuse me, sir, please sit down, or else I’ll have to guide you off this plane.” She threatened him. Flynn glared at Ryder before looking around. Full attention was on him, even the glint of a phone’s camera could be noticed.

Flynn stomped back to his seat, sitting down. He grumbled to his side, reflecting the businessman’s attitude.

Kyle thanked and apologized to the flight attendant, whose name tag read “Aviana”. He then sat down, moving past Emma. He looked out of the window, the clouds following the plane.

He felt somebody touch him, turning his attention to Emma. She was staring at him. “Thanks,” She said.

“Uh… you’re welcome.” He muttered back. She was too beautiful for him to talk normally. He was decent at communication with the other gender, but models were out of the equation. It felt like he was talking to a goddess.

Emma nodded at him before
