โ Wait, what, okโ, I thought as I played the scale.
โhere's a new song we will be playing, Orange Jamโ, the teacher stated.
โHay Tristanโ, I whispered
โWhatโ, Tristan whined.
โWhatโs the song called?โ, I said.
โOrange Jamโ, He grunted.
โOk thanks,โ I said.
โThat rings a bellโ, I said.
โShut upโ, Tristan barked.
โOk fineโ, I sarcastically said.
Why does this ring a bell? I begin to play. Iโve got it, the first time I traveled was at age 5 and I had Orange Jam for breakfast. Well, I have time to think.
2010 Sea-Tac
I was at a coffee shop when my mom said what do you want to eat. โMarmalade,โ I yelled. My mom was not pleased. โYou can not have Jam for breakfast,โ she said. โWhyโ I said. This argument continued for some time, until I settle on frosted flakes. Soon my eyes were glued to the window of the plane and soon we lifted off. At 40,000 feet my mom was drinking a coffee and was about to tell me something that would change my life forever. My sister was asleep next to me and I was acting like a ferret on espresso. Then my mom said,
โSit still I am going to tell you something,.โm, My mom said.
โBut Whyโ, I complained.
โBecause I said soโ, My mom barked.
โJust listenโ, My mom sighed.
โIf you turn your excitement into knowledge your ambition will grow,โ, she said.
โWhat,โ, I said confusedly.
โYou will know when youโre older.โ, she said.
Westgate Orlando 2010
โI wonder what to have for breakfast?โ, I said.
โWe are going to Disney world.โ, my mom said.
โso what can I eat,โ, I yelled.
We arrived at Disney World and I had a good time. Nothing was out of the ordinary. When we were at the hotel my mom was pestered by the staff at Westgate and was not pleased.
I am running at speed 5 on my treadmill. Now that I think to myself. I finally understand what my mom told me on that flight. Turn your anger to ambition and let your intellect grow. This is advice that has helped me in the past and present.
2012 The Caribbean
I was young and was on a trip to the Caribbean. On the ship, all I had to eat was pizza and I mostly swam in the pool. When I exited the ship, my mom took me to see historical sights such as the governorโs house. It was a rainy day and my sister was staring off into space behind us. Then I implored my sister to go on an adventure. She said, โI donโt think thatโs a good idea.โ I said, โOf course it is, my plans are great.โ We wandered off. I saw a Pluto hat. Then, I bolted towards it. Out of nowhere, my mom stepped in front of me.
โWhere do you think youโre going?โ ,my mom said.
โNowhere,โ, I said.
I was yelled at and told not to do that. โLike that stopped me.โ We had a good trip and I was given $20 for a souvenir. I bought an electronic planner thing from the 90s. In fact, why was that even there? I think the main thing I learned on that trip was to think before I act.
I was on my way to a zip lining trip with my sister and my mom. We made the long trip up the Alaskan mountains. Our tour guide told us there was no turning back past this point. My sister who has extreme anxiety wanted to go on the trip, my mom let her (big mistake). We reached the top of the mountain and we were equipment checked. We went down the last starter line before going down the mountain. Just then my sister had an anxiety attack and began to cry, she froze up and refused to move. Since we could not turn back and I was only 11, we were forced to bail. Soon, former military vehicles came up the mountain to rescue a very scared sister and angry family. At first, my sister refused to be belayed down and it took half an hour to get her on the truck. Soon we were on the beach. I was furious. I was so mad I built a working stove out of a nearby shipwreck. Things did get better because I was given a signed copy of Oswalt the Lucky Rabbit which was drawn and signed by Eric Goldberg (a Disney animator).
I am getting my braces off wondering why my mom didnโt throttle my sister the day she freaked out. I now think of that incident as water under the bridge. But, if that never happened I would never have gotten to ride in a military Humvee. I never did go zip lining again though.
I am sitting in a hotel room as my grandma stuffs her face with fudge. Of course, she would not share. My mom made me and my sister spend the day with grandma. All we did that whole day was watch grandma eat fudge samples and buy nothing because she was โon a diet.โ. My sister and I wandered off into a gift shop and looked at things. I ended up buying a ship. The only thing I learned from this trip was that my grandma doesn't like to share.
