What is SEO?
SEO in full is search engine optimization. It is the process of optimizing websites to ensure that there is organic and un-paid traffic from the search engine results page. SEO makes changes in the design and content of a website to ensure that the site is attractive to a search engine.
The success of this process is to ensure that the search engine displays the website as a top result of the search engine result page. SEO is beneficial to a business and thus should be improved by working to expand the visibility on the search engine.
SEO is beneficial for e-commerce websites as it helps in reaching and engaging more prospective customers. By creating a more engaging and effective content that is SEO-focused, a business can increase its chances of bringing in more targeted organic traffic.
How does SEO work?
Search engines provide quality service for their users. Therefore, it delivers results on the search engine pages that are both of high quality and are relevant to what is being searched. Search engines scan different websites to get a better understanding of the contents and significance of the site. It helps in delivering relevant results to those who are searching for certain keywords or topics.
Additionally, the search engines scan the site to find out how easy it is to navigate and read. It rewards user-friendly websites with higher rankings on the search engine result page. Organizations undergo the process of SEO to make certain that the ranks of their websites are high in the search engine for relevant phrases and keywords.
The concept of SEO is to give Google (or any other search engine) confidence in your content.
Google’s confidence comes from 2 major areas:
1. Relevance of content
2. Content value
Relevance
Google understands what your content is about by automatically “reading” every web page on your site and looking for clues.
Those clues are things like:
• Title tag
• H1 and H2 tags
• Words used in the body content
• Image tags
• Image file names
This step-by-step guide to increasing your search rankings teaches you how to use those clues to increase Google’s confidence. Give it a try.
Value
The second half of SEO is helping Google know how valuable your content is.
Google uses clues to understand value as well. Value clues include:
• Links from other websites called backlinks
• Click-through rates from search results pages
• The bounce rate of the number of people who leave your site
• Time reader spends on your website
• Social sharing
Backlinks are generally regarded as the strongest value clues for Google.

4 SEO Tips
It might be the end of the year 2019, but search engine optimization is still here and some things will never change. Using SEO is one of those things that will never go out of style. With that said, here are four top SEO tips you'll want to keep in mind.
1. Site Should Load Fast
Years ago you probably could easily get away with letting your website load at a very slow pace. Google and other search engines didn't really care if a site loaded slowly or quickly. If they did, then you probably wouldn't have even noticed. However, things have changed, and if your website loads slowly, then Google will likely take this into consideration when ranking a website. This means you want to evaluate your website and remove anything that is causing it to load slowly. Check to see how fast your site loads, both on desktop devices and mobile devices, and then take action if need be.
2. Outgoing Links
Including plenty of outgoing links within your website's content is not a bad thing. A lot of people used to think it was a bad thing because it leads their website visitors to other websites. If you want to increase your website's chances of ranking well, then you should link to other websites. Make sure the content you link to is relevant. Ideally, the sites you link to should be authoritative sites. Outgoing links to authority sites can help you rank because it shows you are trying to provide your visitors with useful content.
3. Create Meta-Descriptions
A lot of people don't create meta-descriptions for each of their pages or articles they create. When you create a new web-page or post, make sure you include a unique meta-description instead of letting Google and other search engines use the first few sentences of the page or article. This is good for SEO purposes, but it's also good because the meta-description is the very first thing people see when they find a website in the search results. Keep the meta-description short, relevant, and use a keyword or two within it.
4. Social Signals
Social signals are thought to be taken into consideration when Google and other search engines are ranking sites. This means you should focus on building momentum in regards to social signals. Create content for your website and then share it via social media outlets such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and others. When your content is liked, shared, and talked about, it could end up meaning a boost to your website's rank in the SERPs. On that note, don't forget about YouTube. Create YouTube videos about the content you post on your site. Include keywords in the video and description and then share the videos on your social media accounts. If your site loads slowly, then take action to speed it up. Focus on including outgoing links to relevant sites and content, as well as creating meta-descriptions. Focus on social signals too, as the more attention your content receives on social media, the better your content will likely rank.
Understanding how SEO works is important to every business.
As a marketer, whether you specialize in SEO or not, you’re going to use it one way or another. I can say it is a lot to learn and you have to do it.
Learning and applying it to help your website, blog, and or store gain content rank.
It’s a tricky thing, SEO.
One day you can use long-tail keywords to drive traffic, the next you receive large spikes of traffic without even knowing what caused it. Then you try and figure it out.
You definitely need to get an understanding of the basics. It can feel a bit bewildering trying to establish all the potential factors in play and see how it works.
Shopify has a great YouTube that explains SEO is short for Search Engine Optimization and it's a measurable, repeatable process that is used to send signals to search engines that your pages are worth showing in Google's index.
Publish High-Quality Content
You could learn and apply every single SEO trick in the world, but it won’t help you gain traffic unless you publish high-quality content on your website. You just have to create relevant posts, explain niche-related phenomena, and solve users’ problems.
This is why blog posts are getting longer – it takes more words to write a good analysis and cover themes from every angle. According to the research, the ideal blog post length is now around 1,600 words. However, the plain text can only get you so far.
Exploit multimedia content to make your content more attractive for an average user. For instance, product reviews generate by far the best results for online retailers. This type of video content allows users to learn more about your products or services, encouraging them to complete the purchase upon watching.
Install Yoast SEO (or a similar SEO plugin)
Yoast SEO is a free SEO plugin for WordPress and a few other CMS’.
Functionality wise, it does a lot like create sitemaps, optimize metadata, apply “no-index” attributes to specific areas of your site, and much more.
In other words, it makes the daunting technical stuff less daunting.
All in One SEO Pack and The SEOFramework are other popular Yoast alternatives for WordPress.
If you’re not using WordPress or any of the other CMS’ supported by Yoast, then head over to Google and look for the “best SEO plugin for [your CMS].”
Install Google Analytics
Google Analytics is a free tool from Google. It lets you see how many people visit your site and how they interact with it.
To install it, sign up and paste the supplied tracking code into your website.
Read this guide (or watch this video, for non‐Wordpress users) if you’re not sure how to do that.
A lot of studies already revealed the importance of SEO and here are a few stats to prove it:
As much as 93% of all traffic comes from a search engine. 75% of users never scroll past the first page of search results. More than 60% of marketers say improving SEO and growing organic presence is their top inbound marketing priority. The first position on Google’s organic search results on the desktop has a 34% clickthrough rate.EMBED VIDEOS FOR SEAMLESS ENGAGEMENT
While many people do attach images with their articles, they don’t even give videos a second thought. And this is immensely flawed. Why?
87% of online marketers use video content. (They would certainly be seeing some kind of benefit, right?) More than 500 million hours of videos are watched on YouTube every day.(Source: WordStream)
Use WordPress categories strategically
Just like tags, categories ensures that there is an organization of related posts. They give readers clues about the article and make it easy for website visitors to find pertinent posts on similar topics. Categories are a requirement in WordPress unlike tags which are optional.
