Chapter 1

I was sitting in my moms car on my to school, as I was looking out the window i was thinking two things. One being annoyed to have my mom drive me to school, secondly having my boyfriend move away in less than a month. My mom knowing me all much to well knew something was wrong. "Emily?" she says. I look at her caring brown eyes and replied " Yeah, What?" my voice was shaken I hoped she didnt notice even though I knew she could. "Emily, honey tell me whats wrong?" I sighed and said " I know mom its just with Kyle moving to Iowa I-" I trailed off. Her eyes were focused on first and second graders crossing the street, which met i was less than a block away from school. She glanced over at me and said "Em i know you must be hurt and im sorry for that but you can't do anything about this." I tucked my dark brown hair behind my ear and said " I know I can't, but why does it have to happen now they aren't even letting him finish his senior year." I continued " I wish I could just go with him." I regreted letting those words slip out of my mouth, i didnt dare look over at her. She said suprisingly calmly " Now you know thats out of the question his parents and your father and I would-" " Step-father hes never going to be my dad" I interupted her. She stopped the car at the curb of the schools side walk and looked at me and said " Its been four months can't you try to be nice to Roger?" I didn't even reply, and didn't want to get into an agrument, so i just grabbed my bag and said " Thanks for the ride mom, I'll have Alison give me a ride to pick my car up tomorrow." and with that i closed the door. I turned my back and made my way to the big grey bulding that looked more like a college campus than a highschool, it had 7 different buildings and an indoor swimming pool. I remember how excited I was when I read that in the paper when i was starting here as a freshman. The homeroom bell broke my train of thought and I walked inside, trying to dodge through people scrambling to get to homeroom. I took my time anyways I was in no rush to see Kyle or anyone for that matter. I approached my locker and was twisting the dial, when I heard a voice say " Hey Em!", I turned it was just Ali, " Hey A", "Loving the new vintage tee." I turned back towards my locker listening to her blab on how she got it at half price. She always had a different taste in fashion, one of the reasons why she was one of my best friends. " I also got these combat boots, they were only $20!" I just nodded and grabed my notebook and a pen, then closed my locker. All of the sudden she stopped talking, I looked at her and said "What?", she glanced up and said " Kyle is looking for you Em, he won't go to homeroom until you talk to him." I just rolled my eyes and said " Well hes going to be waiting a while." I heard her mumble "Maybe, not." I didn't even look to where she was looking, I just turned and started heading towards the front door dropping my pen and note book on the floor. I opened the door and the wind blew my hair it was freezing, i forgot i put my jacket in my locker. I was stomping half way across campus when i heard "Emily will you please just talked to me?!" When i didn't answer he said " You haven't been returning any of my calls, its not like I want to-" I cut him off by saying " I know Kyle, but whats the point you'll be gone in a month anyways." He just looked at me, I knew i hurt him I wasn't usually like this, but i couldn't help it. "Em do you really think I want to leave?" I fiddled with my class ring on my finger and shrugged and said "No." "Well, your right, and its not like we only have a week left, when I leave we can still be frien-" I cut him off and said "No Kyle, no we can't." Wind whurled around us, the sky was dark it looked like it could rain at any minute, " Lets just end it now if you dont i will, were done, over, threw." I didn't even give him a chance to respond i just took off in a mad dash across campus until I crossed the street. I kept running my feet hurt but i didn't care. Somehow I managed to get to the highway.
