Symphonique
DEAR DIARY,
Today I saw jay with that girl again. Yes yes I know that’s his girlfriend he’s expected to be to be seen with her. He doesn’t know that when I see them together it really pains me. I decided to write down my feelings so that’s why I’ve been complaining to you lately.
Guess what else happened in my life? Remember that guy my mom was dating...no not Bert or Frank. This guy was actually nice to my mother. Let me restate that Kevin is the best man that could have entered my mother’s life. He treats her with so much respect. He buys her (and me) like soooo many things. He practically spoils us.
So as I was saying Kevin and my mom are engaged!!! Yes I said it he popped the damn question and I was there the whole time. Mom had looked at me expectantly like she wanted me to answer the question for her. My mom and I have lived together since the day my father left us at the hospital the day after I was born. I would have to deal with another person in the house… a man. He makes my mother smile laugh and play around some things she usually never did. So I said yes and my mother repeated my exact word.
From the tears that came out of her eyes I could tell that me accepting the fact that I would have a new stepfather and accepting the fact that she’s in love …. I guess that kinda made her feel... better about marrying him.
So we set out to move to South Florida. I’m just so happy to be away from my ex jay and his retarded Nicki Minaj wanna be of a girlfriend. Ahhhgggg!! At last just me, my mom, and Kevin.
Chapter 1
“Symphonique!!”
“Mom I’m coming. Let me just get this first,” I answered.
“Where’s my teddy bear?” I heard Kevin ask. You could hear the smile in his voice.
Teddy bear is Kevin’s nickname for me. Where he got that from? I actually have a collection of Whinny the Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, and all the other characters from the cartoon whinny the Pooh.
“I’m coming Kevin,” I said I exited the apartment. I ran to the parked black SUV opened the door and froze.
I wasn’t aware that we were dropping off one of Kevin’s models. Oh did I mention that Kevin is actually a professional photographer. So he be getting paid.
“Who are you?” she asked with tons and loads of attitude.
Oh no this heifer didn’t just talk to me like I’m no damn common maid.
“Um who you think you is talking to?” I said. I’m pretty sure that my words were laced with my Brooklyn accent. This may give her the impression that I’m ghetto; which I am anyways.
Unique
I woke up this morning still pissed from the message my father had left on my phone. I had to wake up at one o’clock this morning or night whatever I just had to get up at a time that most teens aren’t even awake.
I can remember the message my father left on my voicemail.
“Hey Nikki its dad….umm so I have a surprise for you I’m getting married. I know something that you have never thought I would have done. Till this day I’m still surprised myself. The reason for my calling this late was because…umm I want you to come live with me...and my fiancé. I hope you would come live with me your mother said it might be better for you. Umm call me back and let me know what you decide to do. Love you bye.”
I had called him back the day after he left me the message. And that was two weeks ago. I told him yes; I told him I’ll give it a try but I don’t know for sure. He said he’ll be okay with that.
Its not like I had a life here with my mom all she does is go to clubs all the time. Once she tried to sneak me in a club that Chris Brown was performing. I know most teenagers would love for their mother to be live mine, but sometimes I wish my mom was live the moms on TV that are overprotective of their kids. My mother never gave me the love that I have a hunger for. She’s more like a big sister. She uses the child support to buy some slutty clothes for her. Sometimes I have to sneak the money dad sends me to buy food because she never remembers to restack the cupboards and fridge.
I bet that mom only agreed to this because she thought that she would still get the monthly check from dad. My mother is not the smartest person. And she’s defiantly not the best mother; I can’t even call her mom she thinks it make her older than she really is (she’s 36).
So I’m up, my clothes and things are packed, and I’m ready. Now I just have to wait till dad comes for me.
Forty-five minutes later I heard my father honk the horn. I took a deep breath and opened the front door before my father could even knock on the door.
“Nikki!” he exclaimed as he held me close in a big hug.
“Hi daddy,”
“How’s my princess? Sorry that you have to wake up so early I just wanted to get moving. We have to travel for at least seventeen hours,” daddy explained.
“It’s okay daddy,” I reassured him.
“So where’s Stephanie?” dad asked as he enter the house and picked up my two suitcases like the weighted nothing.
“Umm…” I did know how I should answer this question.
She probably like at a club somewhere in japan right now. If they even have clubs there.
“She fucking left you here by yourself!”
I was scared and truly surprised my father is not really the person that curses like that. Especially around me.
“Dad...” I said softly.
He looked at me apologetically. “I’m sorry princess”
“It’s okay. I’m almost always alone here” shit I wish I really hadn’t told him that.
It took him a while to say anything. “Well that’s about to change” and then he walked pass me to his SUV.
This going to be one long trip.
“Dad how come you don’t have a better car when you’re so rich?”
“Because I don’t like to flash my salary around”
“What’s she like?”
Pause. All you could hair is the low R&B playing on the radio. Wait when did dad start listening to Trey Songz?
“You’re going to love her. She’s amazing and so sweet she has the most beautiful smile. And her voice..” he didn’t finish his sentence.“You really love her don’t you?”
Dad smiled and turned his head to look at me.”Yeah, Nikki I love her so much. I don’t what I would do if she wasn’t in my life. She opened my eyes to worlds unseen. She makes my heart beat so fast. She really changed me for the better. Whenever I’m around I just want to make love-”
“Whoooaa!! There mister. Didn’t ask for all that, but from what you said she sounds like a great person for”
Dad laughed a sound I only heard when I was a child.
“My bad,” he said.
“It’s cool, you just got a little carried away,” I said.
Throughout the ride we chatted and laughed. I enjoyed our time together. It’s seemed like e while before my father and I had a conversation like this. Another forty-five minutes later we were driving through a rough part of Brooklyn.
“Um dad your fiancé lives in this neighborhood?” I asked curiously.
“Yup. You stay here okay?” he said when he released himself from the seat belt and opened the door to come out of the car.
“Yeah okay.”
My dad then ran to the main door of the apartment building on the left. The building looked like it was supposed to be orange or brownish, but the paint started to peal off
All of a sudden the car door swung opened. I was so frightened that my heart almost jumped out of my chest. i dont like to show weakness so before she could even notice me I said"who are you?" with as much venom as I could.
"um who do think who you is talking to?" she said with a thick brooklyn accent.WOW, can someone say ghetto well I can talk cause when im ready im also ghetto.
what you never heard of a ghetto Columbian before?
SYMPHONIQUE
“I asked a question first when you answer mine ill answer yours,” she answered
Before I even state a word I sized her up. Then something hit me. She looks exactly like Kevin. Both being Columbian they have a head full of nice containable curly hair other than my unruly curly puff. She had his small nose and ears. Her eyes were hazel with a hint of brown; she most had gotten that from her mother. Her skin creamy almost light brown. Her lips were pink and looked like she ran some lip gloss over it. For some reason I felt a rush of anger rush through me. She’s beautiful; she’s the type of girl Jay had left me for. Pregnant and alone.
“Well?” she said impatiently.
“I have other things to do other than engage in a conversation with a stuck up rich girl,” I replied before opening the door and walking up the steps to my apartment. As I opened the door I walked right into Kevin’s chest.
“Wow teddy bear you tryna kill me already?” Kevin joked.
Before I could answer my mom said “Sweetie at least wait till we move to Miami. Then kill him so momma can get rich!”
“Well momma knows she can’t live without me IN her life” his emphasis on in immediately made me understand that they were talking about sex.
“Umm okay that’s just nasty. Ya’ll know there are virgin ears in the room.”
“You aint no virgin-”
Suddenly the cries of Tyler waking up from his sleep rang loudly on the room.
“See that’s proof” my mother finished.
“Don’t talk about my daughter like that. To me she’s always innocent,” Kevin intervened.
“Speaking of daughters, why didn’t anyone inform me that you have a daughter?” I asked.
Tyler’s cries got louder.
“Can we talk about this later? I think Tyler needs his mommy,” he said.
I narrowed my eyes at him know fully will what he was trying to do; he just look at me with those damned dark brown eyes of his.
He is soooo lucky Tyler was crying caz he would have gotten it and he knows that too. They both know this.
