inch away from his nose.

Then at the same time they turned away blushing like a tomato.

"What is it, Keith?"

They were still nervously looking at the ground and too embarrassed to look at the other in the eyes.

"I uhm ..... Uh... I-i ne-need to talk to y-you."

He said as he scratched the back of his head.

"About w-what?"

She nervously stuttered out.

"I was just... Wondering... If you... And I could uhm.. You know walk ... Home together."

Erica's Pov

He. He just asked... Me out!!!!!!

OH MY GOSH!!!!

My sub-conscious mind needs to stop assuming things..

He just asked if we could walk home together. He didn't ask me out.

"I- Isn't you house the other way from mine?"

He didn't say anything, he just nodded.

And I sighed...

"Yeah but I... I just wanted to talk to you about something."

He said in one breath.

"Oh. Okay then."

And we headed towards the gates together.

As we passed by a familiar house we saw a little girl playing alone when we saw that she looked so familiar...

Then when we realized who she was, we both froze up in place.

I heard him say something in a whisper...

"I'm sorry. This was a bad idea."

To say I was shocked, was a understatement. I felt like I was electrocuted.

"I-It's fine. We both didn't know what we were doing before."

Then we didn't realize that the little came up to us.

She walked up to us and said...

"Hi, I'm Aricel. And my nanny over there told me to call you guys."

She said as she pointed to actually her granny not just her nanny.

"Okay, Aricel."

Keith said with a small but meaningful smile.

Then she smiled at us and pulled our hands to the house that I had lived in my entire childhood until... something happened.

"Nanny, here they are."

The little girl smiled brightly to my mother.

"Thank you Aricel. You can go to your room now."

She smiled to the little girl.

"Your welcome nanny."

With that said  she wnet in the house.

"So, how are you kids in college?"

She looked happily at us.

"We're fine Ms. Reena. And how's she been doing?"

Keith said.

"Well, she's been askig about her mommy and daddy."

She said with a bit of hope in her eyes.

I sighed and asked...

"What did you tell her?"

I was so ashamed of myself now...

"I told her that they love her so, so much that they are working hard for her future."

Then I felt his hand intertwine with mine and for the first time in a long time I felt safe.

"Thank you."

We said at the same time.

"And, I have some bad news to tell you."

Suddenly my mom looked down and a tear slipped out of her eye.

"Mom, what is it?"

I tried my best o stay calm but the next words she said were like a punch to heart.

"She might not make it until you graduate the next semester."

And all the tears I tried to hold back my whole college life came pouring down.
