I was just 10 years old and that day I was walking home from school. That day, I had my first A+ on my drawing of my family. I was so excited to show my parents and baby sister that I smiling to my fullest.
But when I walked towards our porch, I had a sick feeling in my stomach. Like it was a warning to stay away from the house as far as possible.
If I only knew that back then...
Then I wouldn't have been this... this broken girl.
So when I opened the door of the house I've lived in almost all of my life....
I was greeted by the sounds of sobs and pleads echoing in the house.
It was like I was at a haunted house and had no idea where these noises are coming from.
So...
I went and looked where could the sounds could come from.
I went to the kitchen and found nothing but...
I when I went nearer...
I saw... I saw all of my parents glass wares broken and scattered all over the tiled floors.
I was scared that maybe a burglar broke in and did this.
So I went to the living room and I saw 3 of my dad's suit cases...
That's weird... where would he go with this many of his things...
That's what I thought when I was a child bt now that I look back at that memory, I couldn't help but call myself an idiot.
He was leaving us and he didn't think about coming back.
By the time I was about to check upstairs...
I saw my dad with the most blank expression until his eyes landed on me.
I was my daddy's princess...
And I he meant everything to me.
Then the next thing that happened was...
He put on his blank face back and walked past me to his suit cases.
I was shocked...
I was his princess and he just ignored me.
And of course as a child the instinct is to throw a tantrum.
So I yelled at him.
"Daddy! Don't leave me, mommy and Sophie."
Sophie is my 9 month old baby sister.
And when I said that he still ignored me.
And when I looked at my mother, she wasn't doing anything. She was just standing there letting her husband and mine and Sophie's father walk out on us.
But I won't allow that to happen.
So I went to where his others suit case stood and opened it and brought out back his clothes and other items.
My mother just watched me while my father still didn't notice me until my mother talked.
"Erica, dear, please don't do that. That's rude."
And she came to me and tried to pull me away from the suit case but I was stubborn that I held on tight on the spot I was sitting on.
Then I heard a cry...
It was Sophie. Then my mother sighed and let go of her grip on me to get Soph to stop crying.
By the time she started going up the stairs I continued to unpack my dad's things.
Then I heard him talk...
"Erica, princess. Daddy has to go somewhere." He said and came near me.
It seemed like ages since I heard his voice.
I don't know why, but I suddenly started crying.
Then he sighed and scooped me in his arms like he would always do when I cried.
"I'm sorry but I have to. I'm not wanted here."
He said.
"But I want you here. I want you here until I die!"
And that made a show on his face but then my mother came down the stairs a phone in hand and Soph in the other.
"It's her."
Her voices was harsh and cold.
And with that he went to take the phone and walked into the kitchen.
The my mother's appearance seemed to weaken but she quickly regained her posture and headed back to Soph's bed room, probably to keep her from crying again.
The next that happened was a blur to me. But the most important thing I remembered was the night my dad walked out on us and my mother didn't do anything about it.
And I hated her for it.
Until now I still didn't forgive her for it.
I will never forget what happened...
I was scared for life.
From then on, I was distant with every person I used to be close to. I closed my doors on everyone. I built up my walls to shield my still ever so fragile heart. And I was never the same again. Not even by a long shot.
~Present...
I was walking on the last day of school.
It wasn't anything special but I felt like my life would change. The same feeling I got the day I lost everything...
But I don't want to think about that on the last day of school.
I'm so glad to be done with this year of nothing.
The only thing I look forward to each and everyday of school is when I can get some release. I needed to express myself in a way that didn't attract too much attention. And that's by staying after the last bell and play a song.
And luckily every last day of school is just a day to say good bye to friends for the summer.
But I'm different....
I don't have any friends to say good bye to for the summer and feel the need to take a lot of pictures.
For the past years of my life, I've been a loner after what happened.
I didn't open up. My mom tried to talk to me but I would ignore her and she couldn't do anything about it. My old friends still talk to me but i don't talk to them as much as before.
You might think I'm exaggerating but what am I supposed to do?
Pretend that nothing happened?
I can't and every time I close my eyes, I still remember the events of that day like it just happened a few minutes ago.
_*_
By the time I entered the campus, everyone was busy taking pictures, having their year books signed, rushing last minute requirements and other things....
Our school is so uptight but even with cameras watching students 24/7 they still can't control even 5 students in a class.
I swear, this school is getting worse and worse each and every year.
_*_
It was only 2:30 p.m. and school is officially over for the season.
Students were already heading towards the school's only exit.
While I went to my escape.
I walked towards the music room. And its all the way from the east side of the school and the main entrance in on the west and I could still hear the shouts, the cheers, and the chatter of my fellow school mates.
I sighed knowing that I'm probably going to end up as a very lonely old lady in a nursing home.
I shudder at the thought of me being old and wrinkly.
_*_
I walked past the principal's office.
And like always she's not there, like the rest, she went home to celebrate.
Guess I'm alone this year, again.
It wasn't becuase I didn't have any other option but...
But becasue it was the choice I made.
_*_
I was a few meters away from the music room and I complete froze up when I heard a guitar play a familiar tune.
It was Outlaws by David Lambert.
I was so in love by the tune that I walked towards the doors slowly to see who could be playing...
And When I peeked I see Keith Prynce...
I was so shocked that I accidentally hit my head on the door and caused it to open.
We stared into the eyes of the other.
Wondering what could we be possibly be doing at this time and school was out 30 minutes ago already.
_*_
Third Person's POV
(A/N: SORRY I can't describe what happens next in first erson. It's hard for me.)
Then after a few more minutes of staring these to teens have finally came back to reality.
Keith was the first to talk.
"What are you doing here?"
His voice was just plain shock.... No emotion, no feeling but ... Just plain shock
"I came here to just kill time, before I had to leave."
Her answer was simple and direct.
You see...
Keith Prynce is no ordinary student. Not even a bad boy or even close to that. He's .... well... lets just say he's more of a ghost.
Not every teacher has seen him in their classes but he manages to get a report card.
And most of the students think that he's really a ghost whose spirit is still here.
Except her.
She's met him before...
once or twice.
They'd bump into the other since they were almost the same.
They both had lost something in the past and now their trying to avoid everyone at the moment.
.....
Now she's sitting on his right looking out the window, while he was on her left looking at the blank board..
She sighed knowing that someone's here she cant play the piano. She was too shy to let anyone know. Even her family doesn't she could play.
As for him, he wanted to hear her play. But she didn't know that he knew.
He heard her play once, a year ago, he passed by the same room and heard her playing by herself.
So now he's been.... In a word... A stalker.
Silence filled the room until...
"Mr. Prynce and Ms. Reena, school has officially ended so please... You may leave so we can lock the school up for the season."
They both looked at the other and then sighed and got up to leave their haven...
The only place where to find the other. Though they didn't talk much together, they understood every little action done.
Like when Erica looked out the window... he knew it meant she was disappointed yet the same time also happy to see the only 'friend' who understood her.
While he sat beside her and looked at the blank board in front of them, she knew that he was happy to see her again and at the same time he felt shy...
These to didn't need words to know the other but what they needed was...
Was confidence.
The confidence to finally talk to the other without having to stop in mid-sentence.
_*_
They went out the school doors together. Not one talking to the other just a glance was enough to know what the other was thinking. They were just so satisfied with the other that some rumours have started that the shy girl and the ghost boy were going out together. But to them, they just friends. No matter how much they wanted to something more.
As Erica was about to leave the school for the season, Keith said something...
" Erica, wait."
And she turned around to be an
