He walks across the rocky ground which is strangely silent except for the echoing of drums and the sound of boots stomping in the dirt. They had been marching for days and had finally gotten to Fort Ticonderoga. They all stood outside the walls waiting for General Washington's signal to attack before they knew it the signal was given and shots rang out making his ears ring he lifted his own gun and fired not knowing if he hit anything. The cannons were lit and fired but it was clear that they weren't going to win they had to retreat. He starts to walk backwards and turns to run when he feels a sudden pain in his chest , his knees hit the ground darkness invaded his sight and then then he felt nothing...
His name was Jhon Murphy. This boy was barely remembered he was only ten years old, one of the youngest people to ever join the Continental Army he was a drummer and he fought as well. He died for the cause and all I could find on him was one small paragraph. In the history books today all it says is that they played the marching beat on drums in about one to two sentences. Not many kids stand up for what they believe in these days but back then there were almost a hundred of kids who were willing to die for America's future and some of them did.
We're always saying that remembering our past is extremely important but when it comes to wars us kids are forgotten because there had to be more room for famous rich people. How would you feel if you died to save something or someone and your name was never mentioned because people thought that the fact that George Washington loved his horse was more impotant.
This essay is about forgotten heroes but why did we forget them in the first place, because they aren't famous or important enough; or because we don't want to waste paper on people who weren't generals or in congress. If that's the case then why remember our past at all? Why even care?
