Once upon a time, there was a young girl in a very near land. She was a young girl when we met, her, orphaned by her mother and later by her father. I stepped in after her mother died.
No one seems to understand, but I really did love her father. And my daughters, ah my daughters. They really did like Cinderella. And yet no one seems to understand this. I have been exiled from the kingdom, and you, you dear readers are the only one to ever hear of my true story. So, my beloved reader, step in. If you dare to hear the story of the real Cinderellaβ¦
Now, I understand that you may not believe everything I have to say here, and that is okay. For so long the story of the wonderful Cinderella in her wonderful castle with her wonderful prince who lived happily ever after wonderfully in love has been drilled into your feeble mind. Wasnβt their life just so damn WONDERFUL???????
But anyway, all that crap about my working Cinderella day in and out was a bunch of bull. We treated her like an angel, especially after her father died. There was not a thing that the girls nor I would not do for her. She had her daily chores, yes, but so did the other girls. Both my daughters got up early every morning and washed the clothes in the laundry then hung them out to dry. They weeded the garden and bathed the horses when it was hot out. I can assure you, Cinderella was not the only one working in my house.
And now I am sure you have heard of that fabled day at the market. Where Cinderella first saw the Prince? It has been spread around that he saw her there and wanted her to come to the ball. Well, thatβs not what really happened. He saw Cinderella first, yes, but then he saw my oldest daughter Pricilla. Let me tell you, he was taken aback by Pricilla. He strode up to her on his horse like he owned the world (okay so I understand that maybe he owns our part of the world) and asked her personally to the grand ball.
She was practically speechless, but suddenly Cinderella jumped in and said that she would love to come as well. Being of such a kind heart, he could not say no, but I could tell that he had his heart set on my Pricilla.
When the night of the ball came around, we were all rushing around the house, trying to be ready on time. Pricilla had this wonderful dress picked out, a light blue, sparkly ball gown. Stunning really. Now, I am sure you are sitting there saying to yourself βyou lady are a quack! That is the dress that Cinderella was wearing when she met the prince.β Well, yeah, she took the dress out of Pricillaβs room while she was bathing, put it on and refused to take it off! And do you know what her excuse was? βMy fairy godmother told me to do it!β Great now she is hallucinating! We fought with her for a long time until she finally stormed out of the house like a child. We left for the ball without her, thinking she had decided not to attend.
Well, you can believe our surprise when she suddenly showed up at the ball! Waltzed in there like she owned the place! She marched straight up the Prince while he was dancing with, you guessed it, my Pricilla, pushed her out of the way, and planted one right on his lips! Oh the horror!
So apparently the Prince thought that this was quite a bold move and proceeded to ask her to dance, as my poor Pricilla just stood there completely dumbfounded! Oh the nerve of him no her, no him, oh I cant even decide! Well you can guess what happened next. Yeah, yeah one dance lead to another (she was a fine dancer) and yup you guessed it, they lived happily ever after.
YUCK!
So now do you see? Now do you understand that all these years the story has been wrong? The story was not supposed to be Cinderella! It was supposed to be Pricilla!
Well all I can hope for now is that you take this tidbit of knowledge and begin telling the truth. I was not the evil one you see. No, no it was her. It was Cinderella!
