I walk out the door and go down the ramp. I see Kate, my best bud. We’ve hung out from the time we were tiny, and to me, she’s the best. She’s been by my side for a lot, and she’s kin to me. I run to her as fast as I can. I can’t wait to tell her the news. “We’re gon’a have a baby!” I yell. “My mom just told me the news!” She had come into my room to tell me that we will have to make room in our life for a new baby.
A week goes by, and then two fly past. When more and more of them pass, Kate and I can see a tiny bump in my mom’s mid-area. We can’t wait the day when I can hold the baby. When the baby gets here, we can’t hold in our joy. It’s a girl, so tiny and new in her pink wrap. She’s as cute as a bug, and that is what I call her.
Each day, I hold her in my arms with a big grin on my face. “You are mine,” I tell her. “My bug.”
