As the moon rises, the chills become more intense. I've been walking 2 blocks with the creeps. Every time I turn around, nobody is behind me. I hear my feet on the pavement. It is
the coldest night on record for Lakeview. Or maybe it is just me. I walk faster as i approach the bar for my night shift.
I walk in Merline's with a small headache. I make a mental note to get some medicine in my system to chase it away. Plus, i think i need to dress warmer. I dont think a skirt, a short sleeved shirt, and sneakers are gonna cut it. my area is starting t fill up so i rush back to the storage room. i see Maria.
Maria moved here from Spain and she doesnt play when it comes to the "Touching" rule. She always said that if a man touches you when you clearly dont want t be touched, you have the right to slap the hell out of him. she has pitch black hair, wide hips, full lips, a fast mouth, and brown eyes. They change shades depending on her mood. i noticed that they were closer t black today.
"You alright Maria?" I ask
"Vampire night, that's all." She keeps it to herself
"Tell me if you need anything" I walk out
"Si Mi Amor!" She calls ut after me
I start taking orders with a couple from Valesity. They both have blond hair and blue eyes. The man is more stocky than the woman of course. She has curves but she seems smart. It is hard to find smart blonds these days in Tennessee.
As the night rolls on, my customers begin to leave. Mayne 2 out of every 10 give tips. But, i am not complaining. I am sitting at the bar when the bell on the door to signal that we have another customer rings.
"Welcome to Merline's. How may i serve you today?" I look at my notepad until he speaks
"A Negative with fries. That would be satisfactory." I gasp as his voice makes me stare into his eyes deeply
"You're a Vampire?" I ask softly
"Yes, is that a problem?" He asks like he is offended
"I'm sorry. I didnt mean to offend you." I apologize quickly
"Can yu please just get my food for me?" He asks with no tone at all
"Alright...Anything else?" I ask before leaving
"No that is all Maddeline." I walk away to order his food
"Why the rush?" Lance, the cook, asks
"He is a Vampire and i offended him so i am trying to make it up." I answer quickly
"He's a cutie." Maria whistles at him and he just smiles at me even though we're on bad terms
"He is a Vampire Maria." I warn her
"Nevermind Maddie. You can have him. I dont do dead." She leaves the bar for the night
"Bye Maria! Be safe!" We call after her
I bring the vampire his blood and fries. I stand there and stare at my notepad. He looks at me curiously. I just keep jotting down all the things i recall about him. My first vampire...How exciting. Though he isnt quite scary to me.
"Would you like t sit down?" He offers as he stands to pull my chair out
"Thank you." I scoot in
"My pleasure." He says with his fangs out but it doesnt faze me a bit
"What brings you to Lakeview?" I ask him
"Well, i have heard if this place. A few others also to go to. Recommended by friends so to speak." He looks at me weird
"Is something wrong?" My pulse quickens slightly
"No but, it's just that your heart seems off." I automatically stand up and excuse myself
I dont understand how he would say something so private. Towards me of all people. I know my heart is off. Its been off all of my life. I was born regular but one of the nurses drugged me with something. It was a kick-start drug which pumps my heart. I didnt need it but i think the doctor was mental. He shot me with it and now it beats irregular.
I sigh and walk back to the table. I just breath slowly as i sit down. He looks at me with red eyes. My blue eyes automatically stare back with no hesitation. He smiles and i keep a straight face.
"I am sorry i just had to do something." I say softly
"Sure...no problem." He sounds as if he doesnt believe me.
"I should go." I start to stand up but he grabs my hand so i am immobile
"Please. Sit back down." He seems cocky all of a sudden
"I really must be going. It was a pleasure meeting you" I grab his plate and head over to the kitchen
Do you really want to leave? Especially, when i have just gotten here?
I hear him stand up and push his own chair in. i hear my name escape from him lips. i just turn to watch him walk out of the bar and into the night, melting into the darkness.
It is about 11:30 at night and i get ready to leave for my car when i hear the sound of footsteps. Slow footsteps coming from behind me. Who would be out this late at night?
I, especially me, shouldn't be asking that question.
