Prologue
Skylar Lexington's Diary
1904
Dear Great Granddaughter,
You may not know me but I'm your great grandmother, Skylar Lexington. By the time you read this you would come to understand that things aren't what they seem, and they're not. I'm warning you to keep an eye out and be careful who you trust. Keep your family and friends close, not any stranger. The Dark One is coming, and I have a feeling he wants you. Please my love, stay aware of your surroundings. Something very bad is going to happen, and only you have the power to stop it.
With Love,
Skylar
I stared outside the window looking out at nothing but sorrow. Gravestones were at every corner creating a spooky feeling down my spine. A raven cooed into the dark night. Everything felt so.....abnormal. Where did this come from? What happened to my beautiful front lawn with flowers of every color that created nothing but happiness and joy? Now all you could feel was Death and it's prisoners stalking around.
Something wasn't right, and I have to find out what could it possibly be. Optimistically, I opened the window which bought in nothing but cool air.I shivered, but quickly adjusted to the new temperature against my skin. I climbed out the window, and before thinking about my actionsI jumped off the roof. I expected to break if not all, but a few of my bones. instead I landed rock steady on my feet. I smiled to myself, and it quickly went away as a rush of cold air ran right past me. More like right through me.
Starting to get scared I asked, "Hello? Is anyone there?"
No reply.
I walked further into my estranged lawn until I was consumed by nothing but darkness, with the exception of the moon's glow. Suddenly the ground begun to shake beneath my feet. I pivoted on my heel to run back to my house. Only it wasn't there any more. I turned back around which only made me face and face with a beautifully dark stranger, and thats when the shaking stopped. He wore black from head to toe creating this bad boy effect. He had dark wavy locks and dark eyes. Everything detail of him was dark.
I opened my mouth to speak, but no words came out. He laughed
"What's the matter? Cat got your tongue?" He teased in a smooth voice. Almost as if he were joking.
Who is he? I thought to myself.
"Ky. My name's Ky."
I flinched. How did he-
"Because I can. Look, you're going to be seeing me a lot real soon so get used to this. Your whole life is about to change Haliee. And in order for us to keep it from crumbling, you have to stick to what i say. Got it?"
Us? There is no us? I hardly know you! And why can't I speak? I communicated as I was starting to get the hang of this.
Ky grinned.
"I silenced you. And now I'm leaving."
Wait, no! I still have questions! Soon he started fading away. Oh this is great. Know I'm all alone again. I looked around once more and saw the whole atmosphere change. The mood was no longer sad, it was somewhat cheerful. It was daylight outside and there were children riding their bikes up and down the streets. There was even an ice cream parlor down the street. Bruster's Ice Cream. Once again, something wasn't right. All the houses looked newer, the neighbors are friendly to one another, and everyone is dressed oddly. I looked down at my torn converse, skinny jeans, and sweatshirt and noticed how everyone else either had on slacks or heels. Sunday's best or any fancy clothing. Gel-ed down hair or curly madness wrapped with a bandana. I gasped. Is it possible that I'm in the 1950s right now?
I walked up to what would be my house and opened the door. As I walked in the smell of cigar, perfume, and food filled the air creating a weird stench which I hope I would never have to endorse again.
In the living room were two aging women arguing on who best when it came to dressing up for parties. Hoping to get some help around here, I called out at them.
"Excuse me!" I shouted over the loud jazz coming from the back. Hey I could talk again!
"Excuse me!" I tried again, but still no response. It was as if I didn't exist. Well it is a dream, I hope.
Instead of wasting my time with them I moved on to my meddling and went to the back room. This would be Dad's study. I opened the door and was shocked at what I was seeing. A younger version of Grandma was giving Tim Richard, my grandfather's enemy, a lap dance. The worst part was that she was in her under garments.
"Grandma!" I shouted and she continued her doings. I came to her and grabbed a handful of her red locks before yanking it. Only she didn't feel it.It had no affect on her. I looked up and saw a calendar on the wall. Thursday, October 31st, 1959. Wait? She was married to grandfather at that time. I looked back at her and that scum bag in disgust. She begun to kiss the dickwad, but he pulled back laughing darkly.
"I see what you're trying to do Farrah, and its not going to work."
Grandma frowned and looked as innocent as she could be.
"What are you talking about Tim?" Tim the lost it and grabbed her by the wrist.
"Don't play dumb with me bitch! You're trying to protect your granddaughter that isn't even born yet." Protect me? From what? "You think I want to harm her? She will be a beauty, but she mustn't be born. She destroy the order, she'll mess up everything. She'll be the reason why he'll breaks loose. She'll be catastrophic!"
Grandma shook her head in denial, not wanting to believe a word he said. I don't want to believe a word he said. Destroy the order? What order? How can I be catastrophic when I can't even stick for myself at school? This is all a bad dream, and none of it is real.
Tim and Grandma turned around and looked me right in the eye.
"Honey, wake up. You only doing yourself wrong if you stay any longer. Go!" Grandma pestered. Before I could say anything I was sucked back to reality and I'd awaken from my dream. I shot up in my bed. I looked around nervously and made sure that everything was normal. When I realized it was I sighed a sigh of relief. I was about to lie back down until something caught my eye. A feather. I picked up and examined it. It was too long to belong to a bird, besides, what type of bird down here has an all black feather with red at the very tip of it. Then I thought about Ky.
