I was half way to school when I was hit by a car. The day had started out pretty normal and I definitely hadn't seen death approaching, especially not at seven o'clock on a Tuesday morning. Perhaps I hadn't recognized it's form, a old, yellow truck with one of it's headlights missing.
It was apparent, however that death had spotted me. It had turned away from all of the other seemingly innocent pedestrians, seen me and licked its lips.
It had thought to itself: Yes, I'll have that one, not the scary looking 50 year old balding man a few meters behind her, sporting an Adidas tracksuit and looking to have lived the majority of his life to the absolute extent of which possible, no definitely not him. I think I'll take that innocent looking sixteen year right over there, you know, the one that has her whole life still ahead of her? Seems like a fair deal, doesn't it?
Whenever I ask the shadows why I died at such at young age, they just stare at me blankly, waiting for me to go away so they can return to doing whatever it is shadows do. Just like they do as of every question I ask. Hell I don't even know if they can speak. I doubt it, if they could they'd definitely be telling me to, well in not so nice words, go away.
I've pretty much given up speaking to them at all now, instead I've resorted to sticking my tongue out every time one comes near enough, hoping to taunt one into at least looking at me. Most of my time nowadays, is spent reading.
Yes, I realize how ridiculous that sounds, but that's what I do. You see, when I died, I kind of, floated out of my body. It was exactly how I imagined it would be, except for one thing. I was going down.
Through the Earth's mantle I went, my situation dawning on me. I was... going to Hell? All of a sudden I heard a bang, and before I knew it, I was on the ground, lying on a no doubt expensive carpet clutching my head. By the time I looked up at the ceiling, the hole was gone.
cIt was then, I realized I was in a library. A large library.
