What if a curse separated you from the one you loved?
I sat in my bed, I couldn’t go to sleep I sighed,
“There has to be a way to prevent the curse.”
I heard my father’s voice. I got out of the bed and tip toed to the door, what were they talking about.
“The only way is if she fell in love.”
There was another voice but a soft one, I looked to see a lady of about 30 she had beautiful white hair and piercing blue eyes, but not just any eyes, they were also my eyes. My father began to speak again,
“Is that it, all there is to do is to fall in love?”
He said, his brows forming a crease on his forehead.
“That is where you are wrong, if she falls in love her true love shall die.”
The women said. I stepped out of my room, all eyes stared at me.
“Father, are you all right?”
I was worried for him,
“Yes darling, just go back to sleep, I’ll be up there soon.”
He said with a reassuring smile. I took one long look at the lady then went back into my room. I went over to my younger sister Charlie, I kissed her forehead, and headed into my bed, I yawned, and I felt so tired. I heard the door creak open and my dad kissed my forehead,
“Good night my loves.”
Then he walked out. I was going under, the waves splashing over my head. I tried to get some air, but a gulp of water went down I reached, and struggled until I grabbed a hand, but it was too late I was gone. I woke up screaming, tears running down my cheek, I looked up to see little Charlie staring at me, I was in my fathers arms.
“You’re okay now, it’s over.”
He said,
“Oh dad it was horrible, I was drowning and just when I was about to be saved I died.” My dad stiffened,
“Dad, what’s wrong?”
I asked “dad?!”
I screamed, he snapped out of it
“We must talk now.”
His voice deep, he took me to the kitchen.
“I must tell you something very important I think you are ready now.”
He looked afraid, and worried, his eyes were filled with pain, and sorrow,
“Dad you’re scaring me.”
Now I was the one afraid, dad was shaking, it was scaring me was he alright I thought.
“You’ve been cursed, the curse began years ago your great-great-great-great-great grandfather was the beginning. He was a horrible man; he murdered another woman’s daughter. She cursed his daughter and the curse has lived on through generations the first daughter, will die at the age of eighteen.”
I laughed at him, my dad was hilarious, I wiped a tear from my eye, and smacked my knee, and he just looked at me like I was crazy. “What?” I said obviously not getting it, then it hit me, he was serious, and I clutched my heart.
I could already tell my eyes were burning with tears.
“Is that what you were talking about?”
I said curiously. He nodded.
“So who was that woman?”
His face creased up like it usually did in tough situations.
“Dad, tell me who was that woman.”
I said through my teeth, I deserved an answer.
“She was…” he paused as if not finding the right words to say. “ I don’t know how to say this but that woman was your mother.”
His eyes looked down to the floor.
“No, so has everything you’ve been telling me dad, has it all been a lie, so what now am I adopted!” I yelled “Olivia, don’t please.”
He begged,
“No you don’t, leave me alone!” I shouted as I ran up the stairs,
“Are you okay Olivia?” Charlie asked she looked concerned, and sad.
“I’m fine, Charlie.” I said turning away, I refused to cry.
I tried not to cry but the tears just came harder. Charlie hugged me,
“I love you.”
She said in her kindest voice.
“I love you too.”
I replied.
“You’re pretty awesome sister.”
I told her, giving her a big hug, then letting her go.
“You’re pretty cool for a pain in the butt.” I told her sticking my tongue out.
“Thanks,” she began, then I guess the words finally sunk in, “heyyyy, I’m not a pain in the butt.” She said putting her hands on her hips.
“Sure you aren’t” I said smirking.
“If I’m a pain in the butt, then that makes you an ummm, uhhhh, a lobster lump, lent licking cootie catcher.” She said “Olivia’s got cooties, Olivia’s got cootie.” She chanted.
Just then I had a flashback of when I was 5 in kindergarten I kissed Aaron Macabre; everyone said I had cooties, and called me a cootie catcher, even Aaron.
“You take that back mister.” I said pointing a finger in her face.
“watcha gonna do about it.’ She said smirking.
“I’ll tell dad how you saw that movie even when he said you couldn’t watch it.” I said smirking, I just made something up.
“You wouldn’t” she narrowed her eyes at me.
“Try me.” I said narrowing my eyes at her; I saw fear in her eyes.
“I don’t believe you.”
“Da...” I was about to scream dad’s name when I felt something soft hit my head. Charlie had a pillow I grabbed one and hit her knocking her over. The pillow fight continued for the next ten minutes. We both burst into hysterical fits of laughter as we fell onto the bed; I wiped away my tears, and turned to her.
“Charlie, thank you.”
I was smiling now; she really knew how to cheer someone up.
“No problem you’re my sister.”
“Can I come in now?” My dad asked knocking on the door. I motioned for Charlie to get behind the door and whack him once he comes in.
“Sure dad.”
I said he walked in and Charlie hit him in the stomach, we both laughed as he clutched his stomach. Soon enough he joined in he sat on the bed next to me, Charlie quickly jumped by my side.
“Olivia, I’m so sorry.”
He apologized,
“No dad I’m sorry you were only trying to protect us and I know that now thanks to Charlie.”
I gave him a slight smile.
“I love you both and would do anything for you.” He hugged us “we love you too.” Charlie and I said in unison.
