Prologue
Lifeโs been different recently, ever since the โchangeโ happened. It hasnโt hit me fully yet, everyone else has passed their first and second critical periods. The last of who to reach it was my ex best friend Duggy (Druggy to the rest of the school). That was three months ago.
A feeling of fear has settled within me, the idea that perhaps I wonโt get my abilities. The first one is meant to come at the age of seven and the second is meant to appear at the age of 16. Neither of mine has come yet and now Iโm verging on 17 and with every passing day it seems like my abilities are just getting further and further away. Iโm the last developer in my year, possibly of all time. Iโve done everything within my power to help them on their way but apart from making me fitter it didnโt do anything else. Iโve been constantly bullied about it for as long as I can remember. I had to move school at the age of 8. The reason for that was that I was beaten up on the way home from school. The police couldnโt find any evidence- due to the fact the chief of policeโs son was the main culprit.
Majority of my life has been a massive lie. As far as people know my name is Jordan Burton and Iโm from Wales, my parents are living at my home at the moment and Iโm as straight as a ruler. None of that is even true I havenโt even got a welsh accent. My real parents arenโt even around theyโre โbusyโ as I call it; but thatโs only because I know they just donโt want to see me. The amount of times of nearly let something about the real me slip. The most difficult thing is to keep my real name secret, Iโve written it down on several school books but half way through I feel a nudge from next to me. The only person apart from family- for all intensive purposes- that knows my true name is my best friend Sam Jarrett. Iโve known him since I had arrived here almost ten years ago and was my first and only friend at the school. He knows everything about me and I know everything (as far as Iโm aware) about him. Heโs corrected me or nudged me many times during casual conversations with other people about where Iโm from and my name. He always calls me by my real name as I prefer it much more than my make-shift name.
My real name is plagued with bad luck I would even go as far as to say that itโs haunted me through my life. Itโs the first thing I think of in a morning and the last I think before I go to bed. Itโs always there lingering in the back of my head.
My name is Jacob Graves and this is my life.
