Prologue

"I had been wounded for I am weak, I had been betrayed for I am too trustful. Now, they will bear my anger as I will not be at peace for eternity knowing they are merry. They will taste my revenge for I will not pardon those who wronged me..."

-Evangeline

1497, Canterbury, England

"Miss Evangeline please do not run! If the Mistress will know of this escapade of yours, she will surely punish not only me but you as well." Cassandra warned me with a worried look. She's my handmaid and my close friend as well. Although, she complains about my unruly manner, she stays loyal to me and not once has she ever told my mother about my mischievous behaviour.

"I am not afraid of my mother." I retorted.

"You should be. Even though she is your mother, you are still subject to the law. No one can be excluded. If we are to be found out, we will suffer the consequences. So, I beg of you Miss Evangeline, Let us head back and finish your incantation lesson."

I hate to admit it but what Cassandra is saying is the truth. All the rules are covenant to be followed and obeyed by the entire community. Anyone who breaks it will be punished accordingly---And my mother, Aurora, is the head Mistress who governs the law. We are a community of Enchanters but we are commonly called a Witch by ignorant people who think that we are bad and ugly who take children and eat them like in the old fairy tales. But they will all be astonished if they find out what a beautiful creature we are. In fact, we make the village beautiful and we preserve the peace and order.

"Alright, I concede." I sighed and started to head back when I heard the sound of a horse trotting coming from across the field from where we are. I curiously peeked behind the tall bush and saw a boy riding on a black horse to the direction of our Manor.

"Prosternat Se!" I chanted the incantation which I have remembered and to my astonishment the boy fell off the horse.

"Oh no! Miss Evangeline, what did you do?" Cassandra panicked.

"I made an incorrect incantation, I suppose. I wanted to make him stop and inquire as to who he is and why is he in a haste. Oh! I remember it now. I should have said; "Quiesco." I mumbled to myself like a fool and slapped my forehead.

"For Pete's sake! Please think carefully before you act. Now, let us head home before somebody finds out that it is you who did that to the poor lad."

"I will not. I should go and help him." I said determined.

"Evanesco!" I chanted again and the tall bush disappeared. At least this time I was able to chant it properly.

"My goodness! That was your mother's Winter honeysuckle!" Cassandra blurted out of exasperation. "It was blocking my way." I said stubbornly. Cassandra was still talking to me but I just ignored her and ran towards the man lying on his back on the grassy field. I was astonished when I saw him at a close distance. He is so incredibly handsome. It is my first time to ever admire someone of my opposite sex. In fact, I do not care about them at all but for the first time, I wanted to know this stranger.

"Excita---"

"Are you planning to turn me into a frog, lady Evangeline?" He jested faintly and slowly opened his eyes.

What a beautiful pair of emerald green eyes... I thought to myself.

"Of course not! and how did you know of my name?" I said defensively. Although, I know he might be right if I make an incorrect enchantment again. He briskly stood up before he speak and I was astonished yet again for how tall he is. I think he is of the same age as me or older maybe a year or two but he is quite very tall and very handsome at that proximity. His green eyes are also gleaming while staring at me.

"Well, are you not the infamous Evangeline Bailey? The only daughter of Mistress Aurora, is it not? I have heard very much about you and it seemed they were true..." He stated meaningfully.

"Oh! I did not know that I am that famous. What have you heard about me Mister...?"

"Ellixiel Wright. You may call me, Ellis, milady." He said courtly and extended his hands to me. I took it and to my surprise he lightly kissed the back of my hand then let it go gently. I was astounded not only to his gestures but to the electrifying sensation that I have felt at that brief contact.

"Oh! my name is, w-well you know my name but, then you may just call me, Evangeline." I mumbled.

"It is my pleasure meeting you, Evangeline. And what I have heard is not that awful so worry not. " He replied charmingly.

"Hmmm.. That does not sound appealing to me though.. And... oh! I really am terribly sorry. Are you alright? I did not mean to harm you but I was too careless to use a spell---" I stopped mid-way and covered my mouth when I realized what I was about to say. It is after all forbidden to use any spell outside the lesson quarters and especially if it is unnecessary. "I am alright, and do not worry, I will tell no one." He winked at me. "But do be careful of chanting those incantations, it might be dangerous and is against the law to use for amusement." He then said seriously.

"Miss Evangeline!"  Cassandra called my name breathlessly while running towards us. "You are a lady, please do not run as you please or your dress will be ruined."

"Cassandra, come here, this is Ellixiel." I said ignoring her lecture.

"Oh! G-good day to you. It i-is my pleasure m-meeting you Sir Ellixiel. I apologize for the behaviour of milady.---"

"Pardon my interruption but Cassandra do not forget that I am still here. And I had apologized already." I said childishly which made Ellixiel laugh.

"Ladies I think it is not the time for that. The Mistress summoned me here and I do not want to make her wait." He said and in a swift movement he jumped back on the horse again, looking like a knight.

"Do forgive me for I have to go now. However, we will meet again, Evangeline. I believe you should also head back. I have a strong feeling that the Mistress will look for you, pretty lady." He said then winked at me before he rode the horse in a full trot. "I like him." I said confidently to Cassandra and when I looked at her, she was not listening and was looking afar, to where Ellixiel was.

"Cassandra?"

"Oh, y-yes Miss?"

"Let us go back now. I want to find my mother and ask about Ellixiel." I said excitedly and when I met Cassandra's eyes, I saw something in her eyes which I can't fathom. It was so brief so I did not bother thinking about it.

"Yes, Let us now head back, Miss Evangeline."

Chapter 1: Dreams

"A dream is a wish your heart makes..."

-Walt Disney

The cold, dark walls and high ceiling are all I can see. I've been walking around in circles for hours trying to look for something or someone but there's nothing but empty corridors. I then saw a tall shadow from the dark part of the estate. I went to look for it but there was nothing but empty stones of walls. I just shrugged off the idea. I went on and on checking all the rooms but they're all empty. I tried to look for an exit but I couldn't find it. I'm already getting cold and exhausted since I've been walking endlessly and I'm just wearing my thin nightgown then suddenly I heard some faint movements and from the corner of my left eye, I noticed yet another shadow. I'm starting to get chills down my spine but still tried to put up a bravado and silently went to the direction of the shadow and was surprised to see the back of a tall figure of a boy walking away. He might be following and observing me for a while now but maybe found me uninteresting and decided to just go.

"Hey stop! Wait! Where are you going? I need help. Can you please tell me where's the way out of here?" I shouted at the boy's back. I can't understand why the heck I'm following him. I don't know him and I couldn't make out his face. All I see is his tall figure and his mysterious slightly long raven black hair which is hanging on his pale neck. I noticed that he is wearing a long black jacket and black pants. I don't understand why I feel magnetized to him. It made me curious of how he looks like so I called for him again but he just walked
