Chapter 1

I got up very early this morning, I don’t know why, but it doesn’t matter. Slowly I went into my bathroom and looked into the mirror. What I saw was terrible. Knotted hair and the make-up were blurred, I thought about last night. It was a long evening in the streets, me and my friends met under the small bridge, Brittany brought drugs and alcohol, but I can’t remember how I got home. I was definitely high, and that was not the first time. Drugs are my family, because my real had never been, what you expect. They hate me, my father beats me and my mum only laughed, so I started dealing with drugs. I know it’s not the best way to survive and what you expect from a 16 year old girl like me, Maddy, but it was my last chance. After I fled I lived on the dirty streets of London without money, without everything. I stood there about a year, found new wrong friends and so on, until Lisa and Tom found me. Since then I live with them in a rich part of London.

“Maddy, where are you, come on you have to go to school!” That was my foster-mother Lisa. She is so nice and I’m also grateful, but I was a bad girl and I will always be a bad girl. But Lisa and Tom don’t know about the drugs, party and so on. I lie, I love lying. I take my bag, my knife and of course my best friend, and run the stairs down. In the kitchen Lisa already waited with a curious smile on her face. Normally she looks very reserved, but today it must be a special day. Her birthday? - No that was last month. Hm I don’t know, but the way I know her she will tell me soon. And I was right. “Good morning Maddy nice to see you. Listen, I have some important news for you. You and me we know that you do something forbidden. Yes maybe you can’t believe, but your lies were too bad. Everybody can see that something's wrong with you, I mean look into the mirror and you almost see the word drugs on your forehead, am I right? So Tom and I decided to change something, you will go to a camp, where are many younasters with problems like you. It’s very hard I know but when you are back you will be clean, trust me.”

“No, no I don’t want that. You can’t do it without asking me, that’s not fair, Lisa please.” I answered, it was terrible for me. I didn’t want to go away from my home, my friends, and my life. Lisa was angry she shouted at me, she never did that before. “You do what we want, take your bags out of the living room, we prepared it for you. And hurry up Maddy your taxi is waiting.” Oh wow that’s hard, but I didn’t try to say something against her. I ran into the living room and took this little suitcase. It was not light, very light but I was in a hurry so I had not time to open it. I took my rain jacket because here in London it rains the whole day, charged out of the door into the rain. The sky was dark and fog was in the air. I saw the taxi at the end of driveway and got in. The driver was an old man with dark clothes, I was a little bit scared, but I had to do it. One last glance at my old home and my trip into a new life started. After some minutes I fell into restless sleep…

When I woke up I saw a big grey concrete-something through the wet windows of the taxi. I arrived at nowhere. Dark sky, grey houses, dust everywhere. Welcome to hell. I found a piece of paper on my jeans:

“Welcome to Jacks Prison. Your first challenge is getting out of your car. But be careful, don’t die, there are more challenges waiting for you. Have fun.”

I stopped breathing… Don’t die? I tried to open the door next to me. Nothing. I heard water. Stop water? Oh no, my feet got wet, water comes into the taxi. If I don't react I will drown. I banged with my hands against the window but it didn’t move only some centimeters. I’m lost, I’m lost. The water rose higher and higher, but it wasn’t’ only water, I smelled something else, but I wondered what it is. That’s the most terrible situation I have ever been in. I couldn’t breathe anymore the water was too high. I will die, that was my short, bad life. At one moment the water stopped and I heard a voice: That was just the beginning; you will die, if you don't follow us.

That was the beginning…
