I knelt carefully before the altar of my god, Utopia. His statue is here, by his painting. He is a blond-haired blue eyed man, looking approximately twenty six years old. I stare into his eyes. I feel that I know him somehow...that is why I visit him most often. I turned to Ishtaraphrodite's temple and prayed to her, sprinkling rose petals on her throne. I sat on my usual place by her tree, the laurel tree. Rosebushes surrounded the temple.
I turn, holding my arms across my chest. It is a cold day and I have my aunt's shawl around me. In front of me is a young man with long blond hair and porcelain skin. His best feature is his eyes, blue as the daylight sky. His mouth, full and pink, is open a bit. I get up to go, ignoring him. In my village, girls under the Marriage Age, sixteen, cannot speak to possible future husbands unless she has the intention of friendship or information.
I can hear him saying, "Wait!" and "Who are you?" I ignore him until he grabs my arm. I gasp, in shock and a little pain. He pulls me up to him. "I am sorry, but I did not know any other way to get you to stop. I need to know your name."
"Selene Lunette Mara."
"Selene Lunette Mara, you are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my unending life."
I realized who he was with a start.
"Utopia..." I breathed.
He nodded. "Yes. I am him." He leaned forward an inch, and my heart sped up. But he didn't kiss me, he plucked a butterfly out of my hair. He inhaled it's scent and smiled.
"The Palos Verdes Blue. Incredibly rare, and incredibly beautiful. Do you like butterflies?" he asked. I nodded. He smiled with satisfaction.
"Do you like the color blue?" he asks.
"It's my favorite color."
He nodded again. "It's a wholesome color. Fresh, the color of the sea and sky. And your eyes."
