I ran down the rood looking for a place to hide I looked behind me I couldn’t see them but I could hear them and they were getting closer. I headed over to an abounded building and slipped inside. I hid behind a stack of crated in the corner I was silent and it was silent around me for a minute the only thing I could here was the fast beat of my own hart and my heavy breathing. I listened outside of the old building for sounds of their approach I looked around for something I could use as a weapon if I ended up needing one. I saw a metal pipe and some bricks against the wall. I moved out of my hiding place just long enough to grab the pole and a few bricks. I crouched back down in my hiding place and waited as the shouting came closer and closer until it was finally right outside the building.
“Search the trash bins and surrounding bush areas.” A voice said.
“What about the buildings sir?” Another voice asked. Someone laughed.
“Don’t worry these buildings are much too complicated for a normal to get into.” The first voice said. I sat silently with a brick in my hand barely breathing as the trackers searched.
“She’s not here let’s keep moving.” The first voice said. I sat and waited until I could hear nothing but silence and my own shaky breathing. I stood up letting myself relax I was about to drop the brick when I heard movement outside the building I got ready to use my weapon. Just as I saw the face of my friend from school Rex.
“Arian it’s me don’t hurt me Im coming closer ok.” He said.
“Well duh” I whispered. “Is the coast clear out there?” I asked.
“Yea.” He said. I sighed and relaxed again
“You know if you keep sneaking around like that super strength or not you’re going to get yourself killed one day.” I said. In my normal voice. He smiled.
“You wouldn’t kill me would you?” He teased
“I don’t know it depends on whose side you’re on. Speaking of sides how is it that a group of the government’s best trackers couldn’t find me and you can?” I asked.
“You kidding I know everything about you, Plus im better than them. A group of the government’s best idiots is more like it, they couldn’t track their target if it was ten feet in front of them” He said. I laughed. Rex was my best friend before I left school after the government found out I was a normal. The only other people besides me that knew was Rex and my mom. Everyone else was clueless until one day my mom got me from school and told me to run. And I did I haven’t been back since Im just running like I will be for the rest of my life. Now everyone knows Im a normal not doubt my name and picture as ben broadcasted all over the world by now. I looked around.
“What are you doing here?” I asked.
“There have to be a special reason for me to be here other than I miss my best friend? I have no one at school anymore. Now Im the weird kid alone.” He said.
“Im running form the government Rex. There has to be another reason for you to come and find me.” I said. His face became serious then.
“Yea your right I did miss you though.” He said.
“Well why are you here Rex?” I asked a little annoyed.
“Ok the Governments been going crazy trying to find you and there literately tearing the place apart and people are getting upset there’s talk of a revolution forming. If that happens they’ll kill everyone there will be nothing left. And they took your mom. They have her up in the grace building there not letting her out they think she knows where you are. Im under surveillance and they’ll probably be coming by my house soon so I goatta go but I’ll find you again give you an update soon.” He said coming over and giving me a crushing hug.
“Rex can’t breathe your breaking me again. “I said. He laughed and let go
“Sorry.” He said.
“Rex why did you tell me this stuff?” I asked.
“Cuz Im hoping you’ll figure out some way out of this and come back so you can fix everything.” He said giving me a smile and heading for the door.
“Rex don’t you dare find me again you’ll get yourself killed.” I said to him but he was already gone. I sighed and sat down He shouldn’t have come and told me all of that stuff now I’ll just feel bad.
“God Rex you always knew how to make a situation better didn’t you.” I said to the air. He really did used to make bad situations better he was good at stuff like that whereas I always seemed to make them worse. I unzipped my back pack I took out a bottle of water and my jacket.
“I guess Im sleeping here tonight.” I said to myself. That’s another thing since I ran away I’ve had absolutely no one to talk to except maybe an animal here or there. So I’ve’ become crazy and started talking to myself. There are many disadvantages to running for your live. I looked around for something that wasn’t too dirty for me to lay on. I saw a tarp in the opposite corner of where I had hidden earlier. I walked over and got it and started dusting it off.
……“Aria wake up common we have to keep running.” The voice said. I stood up with difficulty and started running at a slow pace.
“You goatta be faster than that Ari or they’re going to catch us.” The voice said again my vision was blurry and I couldn’t see much but the voice sounded so familiar. I stopped.
“Who are you?” I asked.
“Ari It’s not a good time to be playing games. We really need to get out of here we need toa hide.” The voice said. Grabbing my arm. And leading me some where I couldn’t see. “Be quiet don’t say anything.” The voice said. I was silent as I listened to people passing bye.
“Im not playing games who are you?” I asked again.
“Ari shut up you’re going to get us killed.” He said putting his hand over my mouth to keep me from talking. I tried moving to get out of his grip but his hold on me was to strong and I could barely move. “Please stop.” He said pleading with me. I stopped trying to get free and sat motionless and quietly with my unknown accomplice I had no Idea why but it must have been something in his voice that made me stop something in his voice told me I could trust him. We sat there a while listening to voices and footsteps and my vision eventually came back I looked at the oddly familiar guy sitting next to me for the billionth time.
“Who are you?” I asked again. He looked at me like he was hurt.
“Ari It’s me it’s Rex.” He said…… I sat up quickly breathing heard. I looked around I was still in the abandoned building from my hide out yesterday the sun shone through the bared windows and the birds chirped outside everything seemed perfect and normal except it wasn’t because I was still running for my life and every part of me aced My stomach growled. I got up shivering at the cool of morning. I headed over to my back pack and rummaged through it looking for food. I found a bottle of water and a granola bar which was all that was left of the food I did have. I would have to make a food run sometime today. I packed my things and threw on my hoody dusted off my cloths that needed to be washed. If I could just hurry up and get to the cabin then I would be safe that was my cabin my seriate mine and rex’s no one else new about it. We used to go up there on the weekends and just do all kinds of stuff that they used to do in the normal world we found some book made some fishing poles dug for bait and we fished I even learned how to cook fish. That old cabin was filled with wonderful old artifacts and the best part was not even the government could track us out there. I flashed back to the day me and rex found the cabin we had been on our way to his uncles house and the car broke down so we just started walking we found the cabin and stayed there the entire weekend going through the wonderful things in that cabin back then we didn’t have any idea what fishing was or how to play the game monopoly which was surprisingly easy to play and now those were out two favorite things to do. By car the trip took a full day walking and trying to fit in as best as possible while the government is trying to kill you is much more of a challenge plus out of the three weeks I’ve been on the run I had no Idea where to go for the first two so here I am now on my way to our precious cabin. The one where no one will find me and Rex Wont dare come near while the government has him under surveillance. I’ll be safe at our cabin. I’ll have everything I need and no one will be able to find me. I looked out from under my hood too see where I was I was in shades town. There was a store that rex and I would go into to get last minute supplies. I t would be heard to get in and out without anyone noticing but it was my last chance because after Jacobs store there was nothing else until I got to the next three towns which would probably take me about three and a half more days. I headed up the rode a little ways more and looked both ways across the street before crossing then I headed inside Jacobs store. I quietly looked around trying not to draw to much attention to myself I only need as much as I would get from a girl wearing a hoody inside a store. I picked up a bag of chips then glanced over at Jacobs son Johnathan who was looking at something under the counter I grabbed a box of granola bars and turned towards the back heading where they keep the drinks and looked back at the counter Jacob had is back to me headed into the back of the store that’s when I made my last move I grabbed as may bottles of water as I could shoved everything in my backpack and ran out of the store with tears in my eyes. I ran down the road and didn’t stop until I got to a patch of woods I turned off the road and went into them setting down on the ground I cried. Sure I’ve stolen everything I’ve needed on this little survival expedition but I’ve never stolen anything from Jacob and Johnathan they were my friends and It killed me to know that I had done something so hideous to them It wasn’t like the first time I stole no I was worse the first time I felt guilty and I cried a little and kept going. But this time I couldn’t I didn’t have the strength I couldn’t do anything but sit there in the woods hugging my knees to my chest and crying. I woke up
