The town of Hamphisberry was one of the smaller ones. Everyone dreamed of leaving, moving on into a bigger, brighter, more hopeful place. They were the ones seeking something more than they had. An adventure, perhaps, a dream. And were there those that had given up. Who were too scared to leave. Too afraid of what might come. And if what would come, would be bad, terrifying. And then were there people like him. Who didn't want to travel, to leave, not because they were petrified by what their future held ready, but by what they might see if they were confronted with a bigger crowd of people than they were used to deal with.
They were called the Verum Viden. And Mathias was one of them.
The Verum Viden there a very small group of people who could see things "normal" people weren't able to see. Things. And people. But not any kind of people. If you could even call them people. Because some did not even have humanoid forms. Though some did. With the additional misformed eyes and horns on top of their heads. And that is how the story began. With Math meeting Julian.
Chapter 2"What, exactly, are you attempting to do here?"
This. Today, was supposed to be a normal day for once. The plan was to go out to buy some drawing supplies and then return home to draw. No interruptions. No contact with any person, human or not.
But now he was looking at a young man around his age, who was obviously trying to steal his car.
The boy did not even look startled as he stood up from his crouching position and Math had the opportunity to assess the one in front of him. He was over-average tall, with sand washed hair and forest green eyes that seemed to suck me in. But what got my attention were his elongated ears. A fairy. Or at least one of the creatures. Maybe a hybrid between an elve and a human, even.
"This." he sighed, sweeping his arm through the air. "This is a failed attempt at getting into your car." He smiled, looking me over from head to toe. "With the result of me wanting to get into the pants of the owner of the to-be-stolen-car previously stated."
I looked at him incredulously. What now?
