Leaving

Violet Haven was your every day girl until she found out what she really was. She didn’t know if it was true or not so she denied it at first… but maybe you would like to hear her story from the beginning?

“It’s hot today, huh?” Allie said as she fanned herself with a makeshift paper fan.

“Yeah, sure is.” “Hey we better head back soon; you know they hate it when we’re not home on time.” I said as I grinned making a face at my sister. Then we started towered home giggling as the grass tickled our bare legs. Walking through the waist high grass Allie heard something, not knowing what it was she started pulling me over to where the sound was coming from. “What is it?” I asked her cautiously. She turned to me, crying. “What’s wrong Allie” I asked her once, twice finally agitated at her silence I moved her aside a looked at the ground. I was never prepared for what I was going to see behind my sister. “No! Not him!” I screamed. “Why him!!” I screamed again and again until my throat was rough and raw, and my face was streaked with tears. I crumpled to the ground as Allie called mom and dad to tell them.

It’s been hours I thought… and I still feel completely guilty. My brother was gone and I didn’t do anything to stop it. I knew he was my responsibility and I let him wonder around by himself when I knew… that moment I saw my brother crumpled in a heap in the grass I knew in an instant what did it to him and I knew who to go after. “I will kill him for what he has done.” I mumbled to myself. I have been training all my life to protect him, why did I let him wonder off? “Bethany?” Mom called through the door to me but I acted as though I didn’t hear the second time she called to me. I listened as her footsteps faded away to complete silence. I welcomed the silence and the darkness of my little room as though it was the only thing holding me together anymore. I let my eyes drift shut and I was instantly plunged into a dark dreamless sleep.

The next couple days I locked myself in my room away from everyone and everything outside. On the third day I still felt like crap but I had to get up and talk with my family they said they had to tell me something important. I walked down the hallway to the living room to talk to them. “What can be so important that it can’t wait?” I grumbled at my sister. She just smiled at me and I gave her a confused look. “They’re waiting in there”, she said pointing to the living room still smiling that same weird smile at me. I walked past her to the living room to my parents to see what they wanted. “Violet”, they said at the same time. “What?” The word came out a little colder then I meant it to. “You and Allie are going to go stay with your Aunt in Wyoming for a while.” She looked at me kindly. “What! No I don’t want to go!” I yelled. “Why would we go to her house, what’s up there that’s not down here?” I started pacing the room impatiently. “Everything that’s not here is there.” “What the hell does that mean?” I was starting to raise my voice at them. Allie bouncing in the corner says “Come one Vi, it’ll be fun!””Yeah, Allie because trekking through the freezing cold snow is just my idea of fun.” Sarcasm found its way into my voice.

After driving in the car for hours my butt was numb. We could only get as far as the train station were we all said our goodbyes and we waited for our aunt a woman we had never even met before. “I’m a little nervous” Allie confessed. That’s when someone tapped me on the shoulder. When I turned around I think I died a little inside that’s how good looking he was. His hair was so blonde it was almost white and his eyes, whoa… they were grey blue and gorgeous.

“Hi” he said and smiled. “Are you Allie and Violet?” Allie stepped forward with a polite smile and said “I’m Allie and this is Violet” she pointed to me. I nodded to him politely saying “Hello”. He looks about Allies age though I’m not sure. He was tall and lean and for a second I caught myself wondering if he played any sports. “So, who are you?” I asked looking up at him. “Oh, yeah I’m Luke, your aunt sent me to pick you up.” He gestured in the direction of the car and led us to a rusty blue pick-up.

Identity

We arrived a little later at a little log cabin in the middle of nowhere. “Is this where she lives?” I glanced out the truck window. Mm-hm he murmured keeping his eyes on the road. “It’s so small” Allie whispered to me pointing out the window to the little cabin. I ignored her and settled a curious look at Luke, who seemed not to notice it. I looked at his grey blue eyes and down his face to his lips. They looked soft, and then he looked at me. I felt my face grow hot and I quickly glanced away to look out the window. But before I did, I saw him smile, for just a split second, before he looked back to the road. He pulled the truck to a stop in front of the house, I hopped out quick. I just stood there and looked around now that I got the chance to it looked… Beautiful. The color of the cloudless sky, the green trees and ferns growing, before I knew it I was running through the trees like I knew it by heart. I felt like I had been here before, but I could never recall when I had.

“Violet!” it was Luke who called out to me. I glanced back and smiled at him. He ran up to me “Where are you going?” he panted. “I don’t know” I said as I grinned at his breathlessness. “I feel…I feel like I know this place.” I whispered partly to myself but to him too. His head darted up and he was looking me dead in the eye. “What did you say?” He looked as though he just found out something important. “I said- “It can’t be.” He whispered. I gave him a confused look. He just turned and started walking. “Let’s go, we have to talk to your aunt.” He almost spit the words out. I glanced at him then fallowed toward the cabin with a hint of curiosity.

When we got to the cabin he barged threw the door with how much force he used you would think he broke it… but no, gladly. He called loudly to my Aunt “Hey! Why didn’t you tell me it was her?” me still confused and utterly lost on this little situation had to ask. “And who am I supposed to be exactly?” he froze as though he completely forgot I was even here. I watched him carefully seeing what he was going to do next, he just stared at me for too many seconds. Allie came running in from outside “What happened?!” she wheezed. “Why are you yelling Luke?” He looked from me to Allie for a second then just turned and walked back out the front door. I’m so annoyed by now I can’t control the anger bubbling up inside me. I ran out the front door after him. “What the hell is your problem!” I yelled at him still walking toward him. “Why will no one tell me what’s going on!?” I didn’t realize I was crying until he gingerly wiped a tear from my cheek. I looked at him dumbfounded for just a second until I turned and ran to the trees. The trees that I knew: but didn’t know. The trees that made me feel safe yet not safe all at the same time.

My feet took me far fast. I ran faster than I thought I could. I ran and ran until I couldn’t anymore and I just dropped to the ground at the trunk of an old looking tree. I sat there and cried, until I drifted off into a cold dreamless sleep. When I woke I didn’t know where I was or what time it was. I wondered unknowingly for a while, and then I just gave up. I found a spot where the trees didn’t touch. I walked to the middle of the little clearing and lied down in the tall, overgrown grass and waited. When the moon was high over head I drifted off into a calmer sleep again.

I don't know how long i slept there. I woke up to the birds cherping and my name being called. "Violet!" the voice called loudly. I stood up confused, until i remembered where i was.

Have i been out here all night? i thought as i started walking in the direction of the voice. When i got closer I relized, it wasn't Luke, but it was far too late now... before i knew it a tall lieth figure is towering over me then i see only darkness...

Captive

I wake to my pounding heart and the sound of foot steps, thus rilizing im not in the confert of my aunts' home. "I can't see" mumbling i try to feel around in the darkness. All i feel is cold stone ground and hard wall. i stand and stumble hard agains bars. "I'm in a cell" i relized. Just then a stunningly bright light comes in from the cell door. i quickly scramble away from it as if my corner were any saver than by  the cell door.

"Ah. So i see your finally awake" i dont reganize the voice, it wasn't the same voice that was calling to me in the woods, i knew that much.

"What do you want?" i half heartidly wisper to him. "You act as if you don't know." he sounded a bit confused. Not nearly as
