Chapter 1
Eliana lay frozen in the compacted snow. The wind carried snow around and whipped at her wavy brown hair. Her face was in the snow, and she was muttering to herself, "I don't remember, I don't remember. Oh, why am I not a wizard? I don't remember..."
Her body had been numb for a long time, and only her head was the only part with feeling.
Eliana whimpered, "Die, die. I will die. Good bye, Eliana."
She was half-crazed.
And then, she died.
Eliana heard so many sounds when she came into consciousness. Her eyes still closed, she listened to the swirling wind. She heard he heartbeat, which was strangely quick. She heard her breath, inhaling in slowly, then exhaling in a quick puff.
She opened her eyes and took in her surroundings. She was in some sort of bubble. The bubble surrounded the spot where Eliana had died in a ten foot diameter. The snow and wind did not affect the bubble and its contents; it was a comfortable temperature inside.
Eliana looked down at her paws. Wait...paws? She stared in astonishment at the two white paws in front of her. She turned her head to look at the rest of her body. Realization crept over her.
She was a hare.
Jumping all around the bubble, Eliana panicked. She had no idea how she had become a rabbit. She had no clue how to become a human again.
She soon stopped hopping around and laid down, exhausted. She wracked her brain for an explanation for her situation.
"Could it be a spell induced by a wizard?" she thought doubtfully. There had been no wizards around her on the unforgiving landscape so she was skeptcal. She just couldn't work out what had happened.
Instead of exhausting herself even more with thought, Eliana settled down and closed her eyes. Her breathing slowed and unconsciousness rolled in.
Eliana awoke and saw a glowing golden figure. She was humanoid and was watching Eliana the hare. Her warm smile comforted Eliana and she sat back on her haunches and looked up curiously.
"Hello, little hare," the figure said gently. "I am Lenta."
"I am Eliana," she squeaked. It was awkward speaking in human in the rabbit form. "Please, I would greatly appreciate your help in getting me back to my human form."
"Of course, Eliana. You have that power." Lenta waved her hand when Eliana squeaked in protest. "Simply concentrate on your human form, what you look like. Imagine yourself in your mind."
Eliana nodded and closed her eyes in concentration. Her mind was a whirl of chaos though. She could not concentrate on just an image of her human self. She felt herself changing in quick bursts into a human. It all seemed very unstable to her.
She opened her eyes and inspected her body. She had imagined clothing, so she was wearing it and everything seemed to be intact until she actually looked at her hands. They had little claws at the end of her fingers. Such a detail had been forgotten in her transformation.
