Dark Secrets by Regine Vincent (story reading .TXT) 📕

A pair of wrinkled, old hands shot out like a striking cobra and grabbed my forearm. The old, yet strong hands, hauled me back from the edge of the side walk. I sighed with relief, as always, she had the cat-like reflexes.
I turned around as the hands released me. "Thanks, Nonna." I said, looking at my small grandmother. Her deep green eyes, so much like mine stare at me for a moment, then she shakes her head.
"Oh mio cuore

." she whispers, her voice gradually building. "Why do I have a granddaughter that is so sciocco

?!" And suddenly i feel a whack on my head.
That's Nonna for you, she believes in tough love, which usually involves her smacking me around. My father doesn't ever do anything about it, i guess it's because Nonna used to do the same to him as a child. In fact now he just stared at us with a box in his arms and an amused look on his face.
"Pappa!" I shout, "Make Nonna stop." as she continues to whack me saying things like stotto

"You should look before you cross the street Lena." he says crossing the now deserted street.
