Prologue

-Avril's POV-

I pulled my short brown-black hair up into a bun hawk hairdo. I threw on a pair of my short shorts, and my panda shirt. I don't bother on looking in the mirror; I don't like to see myself. I knew I was ugly, I knew I wasn't completely fit, but it hurts to have to constantly know it. And that is why my brother and his friends tease me. And that teasing lead my pack to tease me. Yes, I'm a werewolf, the omega of the Moon Bane pack.

"Avril, come on, we've got to pick up Landon! Get your fat butt down here!" My brother, Aden called. He always called me fat and ugly, even to his friends. I had to take constant bullying because of him being the popular kid in school.

"One minute Aden, I have to put on my chap stick!" I replied, grabbing my cherry lip gloss.

"No amount of makeup will make you pretty, so come on!" Aden called back.

I sighed, running downstairs, to see Aden waiting impatiently by the door. I always envied him. He eats everything, doesn't exercise, but has a better metabolism than me. I barely eat, I run all the time, yet I gain weight, for pete's sake! He got the shiny blond hair, and jade green eyes, but I'm struck with the dull black hair, and blue eyes. Blue! Everyone has blue or brown, but no, not Aden.

"Bye mom, we're going to drive Landon to school!" Aden called, before shoving me my backpack, and walking out. I slipped on my knee high converse, before running after him.

Landon is my brother's best friend. They've known each other since they were pups, and do everything together. Landon is the alpha's son, whose soon going to get the title as alpha.

I ducked into Aden's car, buckling up.

"Aden?" I asked.

"What?" Aden snapped, focusing on the road.

"Has Landon found his mate?" I ask. When a wolf reaches the age of 16, they usually find their mate. For some reason or another, their mate usually lives in the same town, occasionally the next town over. Landon's 16th birthday is today, the day he's supposed to find his mate. I'm only a year younger than Landon and Aden, so there is a chance I could be his mate. But its a slim, microscopic chance. We'll know today, because when Landon sees his mate, he'll know. He'll catch her scent, and follow it until he finds his mate. The femme mate usually doesn't know until they touch the male. When they come in physical contact with their mate, they are rewarded with shocks, and their mate's scent.

"No. What are you, stupid on top of fat and ugly?" Aden answered.

"O-oh. I was just wondering." I replied. Landon's house, the Moon Bane pack house, is in view.

"Look, Avril. I know you have your stupid little crush on Landon, but don't dilute yourself into thinking he might be your mate, okay?" Aden snapped harshly, before we reached the door. Aden knocked, which was immediately answered by Landon. He looked at Aden, a smile stretched on his face.

"Ready to go, bro?" Aden asked.

"Happy B-day Landon." I said sheepishly.

Landon nodded, before looking to me. His eyes go wide, his body stiffening up. He looked almost terrified of my presence. I scoffed, knowing it was another way of him bullying me. Before I could keep myself from speaking, I snapped at my future alpha.

"Yeah, I know I look like crap, get over it." I snapped, looking down. My wolf suddenly howled in my head, as if just waking up from a sleep. Her howl was melodic, not gruff and gravelly like usual. What was her deal?

Don't snap at the alpha!

She snapped.

I'll snap at him all I want until he IS the alpha!

I replied.

Sometimes, my wolf drives me insane, with her proper, do-this do-that attidute. One day she'll make a mistake, and I'll annoy her. Just to see how she likes it. I looked up at Landon, to see him glaring at me. His glare was so menacing, my head automatically snapped down, my wolf whining.

"S-sorry. I'll walk the rest of the way by myself. I'm so sorry my parents decided one pup wasn't enough." The words tumbled from my mouth, before I turned, and started down the road, toward school. I was used to Landon, Aden, and his friends hating me. Everyone does, so I keep to myself as much as I can. My phone buzzed. Another text from Gage. I looked at the text, a smile forming on my face. Gage is my pen pal. I met him once on a field trip, and ever since then, we've contacted each other.

Hey, Avril. I tried to email you, but my Internet went out, so I'll just post here. I got your last email, and frankly, I still think you should leave your pack. You could come stay here, after all, I am the alpha of my pack. Think about it. I can't stand the idea of any guy telling a girl as pretty as you that you're fat and ugly. Before you text me back arguing, I would know, I met you in person once, and you send pictures. Think about joining my pack. Please.

Sincerely,

Gage

I shook my head. Gage has been pushing me to join his pack ever since he found out about the bullying. I couldn't blame him; If the situation was flipped, I'd beg him to join my pack. But its not.

After school ended, I silently packed my bags, walking out of the campus. I kept quiet, hoping no one would bother me if I did. I searched the parking lot for Aden's car. Aha, found you. Aden and Landon leaned on the car, a crowd of pack members talking to them. I walked over to them, my head down, so no one could bother me. Without looking, I went towards the backseat, but bumped into someone. The first thing that hit me was the strong masculine scent of incense cedar. I coughed, the smell seeming to gag me. Shocks followed, making my body strangely numb.

Mate!

My wolf cheered.

I froze, looking up at the person I had brushed past. Please no, not here. Not in front of the pack. I thought. It was Landon. His eyes widened, fear taking over his face, which he quickly masked with disgust. My wolf took over, as she usually does at the mention of a mate. She controlled my body, turning my head to him.

"Mate." She purred at him.

Landon looked disgusted, as the group just laughed at me.

"You're not my mate. Why would an ugly, stupid, fat nerd be my mate? Stop making things up, it only makes you look worse." He growled, his eyes turning black. Usually, I would have shrunk back at the alpha glare, but my wolf stood her ground.

"You are my mate, you idiot. Stop lying! I can feel it!" She growled desperately back at Landon.

Could he not feel it too? The shocks? The pull? None of it? He shook his head, obviously annoyed at my wolf.

"Get in the car and shut the hell up, before I make you." Landon growled.

My wolf allowed me control again, so I walked, my head hung, to the back door, before sliding in. I was greeted by a fuming Aden. I should've expected him to be angry. He had witnessed the whole thing. I was just as surprised when he didn't smack me for embarrassing him. He usually does.

"I told you this already, you stupid, good-for-nothing nerd, Landon. Is. Not. Your. Mate. You need to stop with your creeper stalker crush on Landon, or so help me, you'll regret being born." Aden growled at me. I stared in shock at him.

"You don't believe me." I gasped.

"Of course I don't, all you do is lie, Avril! I stopped believing you when you were five!" He shouted.

I looked down, refusing to say anything more.

I jumped out of the car, racing home before Landon or Aden could stop me. I raced upstairs, collapsing on my bed. They were mean before, but now, they crossed the line. I grabbed my phone, sending Gage a quick text.

Hey Gage, just got out of school. Worst day of my life. I've decided I'll take your offer. I'm leaving now, so by the time you get this text I'll be on the train. I still have your address from the last time I considered it. C U soon!

I emptied my backpack, shoving as many pairs of clothes as I could in it. I threw in my cell phone, Ipod, my car savings, and some headphones in, before zipping it up. I grabbed a piece of paper. Better tell Aden. After all, he is at Landon's house with Landon's friends. I wrote a note, setting it on the kitchen table. It was surely going to be found if I left it in the kitchen. Having a teenage brother means they eat more, having a teenage werewolf brother means you never have food. I walked out of the house for the last time, before heading towards the train station.

Chapter 1

-Aden's POV-

"Dude, what was up with your sister?" My friend, Tyler laughed.

At the mention of Avril's stunt, I growled. My sister is so stupid! Saying shes Landon's mate, thats like me saying I married an egyptian goddess! And that, is impossible.

"She's stupid. We all know Avril's desperate to be liked. It was a creeper attempt to get attention. Huh, Landon?" I bumped Landon's shoulder, to get his attention. He'd been acting weird ever since this morning, when he saw Avril.

"Huh? Yeah." Landon replied, with a dumbstruck face. The guys laughed, Jeremiah and Alek snapping a picture of Landon's expression on their phones. I went to do the same, before realizing. I left my phone in the kitchen at home!

"Want me to send that to you? It makes a good caller ID picture." Jeremiah asked me with a chuckle. There was no way Landon was going to live that expression down. It'll be the thing we remember his 16th birthday by.

"I forgot it
