Chapter Three

My eyes drifted close as I fell back into sleep for the sixth time tonight; nightmares had kept me from falling into a soundless sleep.

"Assassin! Wake up!" Sabastion's voice called. "It's time for breakfast, sleepy-head." Breakfast? We never have breakfast; it's too big of a pleasure for us to have since we need to fight, fight, fight. A few moments later I was dressed in my uniform and out the door of my bedroom.

"You're still in school, aren't you?" the other Unknown asked me. I nodded and chomped down on the stale bread that counted as my 'dinner'.

"What's your name? If you're not so Unknown?" I asked after a moment of silence, dying to know.

"Alejandro Vier," he responded and went back to eating. Alejandro Vier. Alejandro Vier. Strange. But whatever. I stood up, grabbed my backpack, and left. The big yellow school bus arrived quickly and I hopped on, ignoring all the stares and the death glares I got. No one at my school knew of my fighting skills but they also didn't know that I could read most of their minds since more than half were Blood-Suckers.

"Humans shouldn't be allowed on this bus. They're so obnoxious," Harmony, one of the top dogs, snarled from the back. The comment was shot at me but I ignored it, pretending to listen to music. "Don't ignore me, vermin, you heard me and I know it!" Don't make me look like a fool! I swear she's a retard..and she probably can't even fight. Ha! Pathetic.

I felt my eyes burn as I got up and stomped towards her.

"Why don't you learn to shut your goddamn mouth before I shut it for you? Oh, and just so you know, it doesn't matter how many times you try to get at me, it won't work because, sweetheart, I don't care about your reputation. I don't care if I make you look like a retard because, deep down inside, I'm sure we all know exactly what you are," I said and went back to my seat, my eyes cooling down along the way.

When I reached my seat some new person was sitting there. "Hey, what's your name," she asked with a sweet voice that sounded like wind through the grass.

"You tell me," I muttered and sat down beside her when she moved over.

"I'm Ginger. Very nice to meet you," she replied, not blinking an eye. Her hair was a fiery red and her eyes were the brightest of green. It almost reminded me of the women over in Ireland but, then again, what did I know?

"Yeah, sure, nice." The rest of the way she tried to make small talk but I would also answer with a word or two, making it impossible. I just wasn't in the mood for talking today; especially not to someone as preppy as her, that's for sure.

The school building was huge. It was made out of brown and red bricks along with glass windows and glass doors plastered all over the place. Plus, not to mention, the banner that sat at the top of the door saying: WELCOME BACK!

Yeah, right, we all just love coming back to school. "I know right. School is so very...useless almost," Ginger said from behind me but then a sheepish look passed over her face and I looked at her like she was crazy.

"I'm sorry but I didn't say anything," I replied, still looking at her. Sweat started to form on her forehead and I knew I had to do something. I mean, what if she was the other Chosen? What if the other guy was lying? She looked like a mixture of the Upper and Lower Worlds, too. Red hair from the Lower and green eyes from the Upper. Without thinking, I lifted my hand and tried to punch her in the stomach but she grabbed it quickly and twisted it, her eyes glowing just a tiny amount.

"It's you," I whispered and ran off.

Chapter Four

My left hand came up and hit Alejandro across the face. "Why did you lie," I growled. "Are you a spy?!" My hand came up again but was grabbed by Sabastion.

"Look, just give him time to explain, I'm sure he has a reason for lying to us, aight? Besides, how do you even know if she is the one? What if you're wrong?" he asked me. Anger started rising in me but I ignored it, I had to.

"I was just wanting to be special in my own way, you know? I didn't want to just be known as a star athlete anymore. My whole life was centered around sports but I don't want it to be that way anymore; I just want something more in my life," Alejandro said after we stared at him for almost six minutes.

"Right and I just want to ride a unicorn everywhere," I spat.

"It's the truth," he begged but I still didn't want to believe him; I wouldn't believe him. Suddenly the door to the torture room busted open and there stood Ginger, the girl from earlier. All of the eyes moved to her as our mouths fell open...well except mine.

"This is her, this is the real Unknown," I said with a smug smile. Ginger, keeping her poker face on, walked over to Alejandro and moved back his head, bringing a dagger to his throat. Now this was awesome..

"Did you think you could run away from me, Mr. Vier? Did you really think I wouldn't catch on to your trail? The next time you try something so idiotic, it will be in the Lower World and you'll have demons on your ass and not me. Got it," she asked with a sweet layer on her voice as she slipped the knife across his neck. Sabastion shrugged and turned towards me, looking back to her.

"I told you, Sabastion. Now, Ginger, tell me what you know about Alejandro Vier, why you just killed him, and what he did to you... also help me think of a name," I said, waiting for Ginger to reply.

"Alejandro Vier," she paused and pulled out her laptop, sitting at a nearby table, "He was a double spy, someone who worked for Lower and Upper Worlds. Neither knew about the other. Well I was hired by the Middle World to follow him so I could see where he came from, why he was here, and what his job was. When I found out I didn't report back and just decided to kill him myself. There's actually a reward-"

"That's why he sounded so familiar! Alejandro Vier was the most wanted criminal in the Middle World... how could I forget? I feel so un-bright now."

"Yes, and you should just be Assassin for right now. Everyone thinks it's a nickname and you don't have to worry about a real name."

"True."

She shrugged and put up the laptop smiling at everyone. "The two Chosen Unknowns are, indeed, both girls." Sabastion burst out laughing and I added my own giggle, which fell silent. Great, competition.
