Have I sent you any pictures of Scamps? If not, he's my lovely little Black Lab. My team have decided to make him the star of our next film. We're doing it on the RSPCA's work, because I got Scamps from the RSPCA place down the road. He was abandoned because he was the runt of the litter. I nearly adopted his little buddy, but she was already reserved. I think a dog like Scamps would be perfect for you.
I have enclosed a picture of my crew and I (including Scamps). I was wondering if you were intrested in joining the group, but making your own film first? I know you have your own You Tube account, but can you please do the film on animals? Then put it up and I'll take a look.
Your very epic brother, Nathan
Anna stared at the photo frame. Her brother was standing in the middle, smiling. He had his arm around his girlfriend Vicky and his other hand was clutching a lead. Anna guessed the tiny dog was Scamps. The others were easy to reconise. Liz, Jake, Austin, Sophie, Emma and Norman. Anna only knew them because she had seen the friends working on a old film.
"Hey, what's that ye got there, kiddo?" Uncle Sam asked, poking his head around the door. Anna just shook her head, but Lily and Jessie ran over. Lily picked up the letter and read it, her eyes not leaving the sheet of paper. She then gazed at her cousin. "So there has been lots of news from your brother?"
"Yes. His little group have asked me to join them." Anna told her. Lily then looked at the photograph. "Who does Nathan have his arm around?"
"That's Vicky, his girlfriend. He's going to propose to her on her birthday, in two month's time." Anna replied. "Nathan met her on Facebook, because his friend Jake introduced her to him."
Tashi then started howling again, which made Gran even more annoyed. "Shut her up!"
Anna ran out and back into the hallway, where Tashi was scratching at the door. She wanted to get outside into the chilly Canadian air. The wolf was used to it, not being cooped up in a comfatable, cozy house. Anna gently scratched her behind the ears. "It's okay Tashi. I'll take you outside, but you aren't going to go mental." She said sweetly. "For now, you'll have to be a dog. Please do this for me, or we'll get in huge trouble that won't be solved easily."
Exploring Anna's World
Anna and Tashi strolled through the busy market town of Ivers. This was where James would go to sell off lifestock and buy new animals or supplies. Luckily for them, this town was only a 10 minute walk from the farm, so they could easily walk or drive.
Beside the young girl, Tashi stayed close to her leg, her nose pressed against the ground. She looked like she was searching for something, or someone prehaps. Anna knew nothing about Tashi's past, and she had various ideas pop into her head from where the young she-wolf had magicly appeared from.
Maybe she escaped from a zoo? Or her parents abandoned her at birth? She could have even been part of a pack.
Anna was clueless, but she snapped out of thought when a large dog started barking at Tashi. The dog's owner, a fairly young, plump woman with short blonde curls and green eyes, hushed it and stared at Anna. "Your dog ought to be on a lead." She scolded her.
"Haven't got enough money." Anna lied. "You see, my family are very poor, and we rescued the dog from a burning building. She just stays by my leg and never leaves my side. Like a guard dog."
"Where are your parents?" The woman demanded. "You look too young to be out here on your own." Anna hesistated as she thought of a quick lie, but it eventually came to her. "They died. And I'm 13, so surely I can be trusted? Besides, I've got the dog and she can bite real hard."
"You poor thing." The woman said pityfully. She then fumbled around in her purse and took out some money. "Here, get yourself some food and a lead for that dog." Anna felt a bit guilty, but she had to continue the act. "Thank you so much." She said inoccently, continuing to wander down the street.
When she was out of sight, Anna carefully counted up the money. "She's given me 10 dollars!" She explained in delight. "And it's all thanks to you." She wrapped her arms around Tashi's neck and hugged her tight. The wolf barked in approval, and Anna stumbled up to her feet. "Let's go and get you a lead before more strangers get suspicious."
So, the two started to pick up pace again as they got closer and closer to the pet shop. Some people paused to look at Tashi, and several children asked Anna if they could stroke her. There were the few people who scolded her as the woman had previously done earlier, but Anna ignored these comments.
Tashi's keeping her cover well. She's a expert.
She thought in relief, crouching down to pat her friend. Tashi had enjoyed all the attention so far, and she hadn't stepped one paw out of line.
They stood outside the pet shop, took a deep breath, and went in.
A little bell tinkered as Anna opened the door. It was bursting with life, with cheerful people buying new companions and children watching in awe as the animals played, ate and slept. This shop was one of the most lively and colourful shops around. The walls were a bright blue, whilst the floor was a posh tiled pattern. The local radio station played in the background, making the glum people show a smile.
Anna approached the counter, and she was served by a friendly-looking shop assistant. "How can I help you today?"
"I need a lead for my dog, but she's huge and I don't know what type of lead to get her." Anna explained. The shop assistant looked down at Tashi and gulped. His eyes narrowed in curiosity. "What type of dog is that? And does she have a collar? Is she microchipped?" He questioned.
"How would you expect me to know? I'm only 13." Anna retorted, anger building up inside her like fire. "I rescued her. Is that all you need to know? Or are you going round asking for my name and address?" She then peered at the badge on his uniform, and saw that he was called John.
"I have good intentions to report you to the police, missy." John told her smartly. "Just let me look at the dog and I'll sort out what she'll need." Anna felt half angry and half relcuent to hand over Tashi. She was terrified of loosing a companion like her.
Anna then felt a pang of bravery hit her, and she stood up tall to face the large shop assistant. "I say what I like. And also, my brother's in the police force and he will beat up anyone who dares to mess with me." She threatened. Obviously, this wasn't true either, but the lie was easier than admitting she was frightened.
"Hand over the dog, and no damage will be done." John said calmly. Anna sighed, and tried to pick up the 'dog'. Tashi wasn't used to humans picking her up, so she yelped and struggled around, trying to break free from Anna's grip. She kept making high-pitched squeals and yelps, which attracted attention from the other people browsing. One man muttered to his wife how irresponsible Anna was with Tashi.
"I heard that!" Anna yelled. "She's just jumpy, give her a chance, you old fart!" The man, who was quite young, was furious. "Take that back, kid!" He then pushed her over and started punching her in the face. Everyone was stunned and shocked by this horrible sight.
There was then a loud barking, coming from Tashi, who had been shoved against the window. She ran at the young man and knocked him over, his head crashing onto the tiles. The female wolf then started biting him, tearing up his clothes.
"Get this crazy mutt to animal control!" The man rasped, trying to push Tashi off him. The wolf clung onto him with determaination, ready to kill him.
Quick as a flash, Anna grabbed Tashi's hind legs and pulled her off gently. "Come on, we have to leave now or we'll be seperated!" She mummered, running out. Tashi followed close behind, but they weren't alone. There was police officers rushing after them, with police dogs running on ahead. The man who had attacked Anna was running after her too.
Oh lord, we're not going to get out of this one.
Anna thought as she ran down the streets. She nearly knocked some young children over, but luckily she avoided them.
The police were drawing in closer, their dogs even closer. Anna and Tashi were running for their lives now, carefully avoiding others around them. But then Anna fell over, and her head crashed against the pavement. Blood started to trickle out slowly, dripping onto the pavement. Anna started sobbing quietly, but she instantly felt Tashi's soft black fur brushing against her arm. The teenager wrapped her arm around the she-wolf's shivering little body and huddled her over. Tashi whimpered a bit, yet she stopped when the police came over.
"Someone get 911! The kid's really badly injured!"
That was the last thing Anna heard before she blacked out.
"How is she?"
"She's a survivor at the moment. However, she is still unresponsive, and she's lost quite a lot of blood."
"Let me know when she wakes up, cos' we need to ask her a few questions about what happened. This case is really serious."
"Alright. You go off and question that other man first. I believe he's the cause of this mishap."
Anna kept hearing the voices beside her.
