All the beautiful daughters of Mara by Ashok Aatreya (books to read for 12 year olds .TXT) š
Excerpt from the book:
A novel written by Ashok atreya is an attempt of embodying the para-psychological, ethereal and day-to-day experiences of the hero. The Key to this novel is very clearly explained in the 54th chapter with the same title " All the beautiful Daughters of Mara", in which Anand, the hero, tells us the story of his previous births, where he visualizes the past and present where his unfulfilled desire for eternal love accentuates with unending lust for life, get freely expressed.
The myth of "All the beautiful Daughters of Mara" existing parallel to his own span of life, of which only present is visible and the rest of the episodes in his previous births, Anand experiences as and when he encounters them.
The overall development of this novel could only be examined with the help of a "Tantrik-based parody", where not only the sequence of Janma-Janmantra is added for an additional fervor, exposing the hero's passion and lust through and through but also his predicament of being a helpless victim in the hands of mystic destiny.
The author has picked up an apparently mystic theme. Unconsciously, as he has inherited the tradition of religion, Indian mythology and Tantra from his ancestors, but the beauty of the work lies in the fact of a secular approach to life omitting the bondages of caste and creed. In this background, this work of fiction becomes para-modern!
The libidinal instinct of Anand in his present and previous births, attaches with himself a number of voluptuous women belonging to various ethnic backgrounds. Tantra, as a distinctive sect of Hindu worship tradition, has very significant role of "Panch-Makars" and, therefore, the Omni-presence of women around the hero is the internal necessity of the theme, which results into many neo-vam-margi experience. This is, thus, a novel-departure in the field of contemporary Indian English writing.
The novelist has very aptly casted valid comment on the degeneration of present political scenario by elevating the police -shooter, an encounter-specialist to the supreme office of the President. (this is just like The then President of Pakistan General Parvez Musharraf (Who started his career as an ordinary military commando) These are not mere fiction fantasies but all around us, we find such absurdities taking shape !
The sub-titles attributed to 58 chapters lucidly establish the internal consistency of unbelievable episodes full of love, lust and crime, tied with an unseen threads of births and rebirths.
Naturally such a theme has interminable prospective of constructing stories -interesting and unending, of which Ashok Aatreya, as a fiction writer, has all the potential.

press etc to work out the final plan for Mela which was another ambitious plan of Charan, as he wanted to show his strength to the youth leader and the potential of his campaign which was taking its final shape. .as by now good publicity in printing and electronic media had projected the drive as best national program for elimination of illiteracyā¦and that all kept Anand busy. He could not speak to Divine about his meetings and movements and came to his house quite tired ā¦gone to bed directly since he had taken his dinner in the guest house giving final shape to Mela affairs also..But then around 11.30 there was a telephone ring...he got up from his half sleepā¦It was Divine on the other sideā¦ Usually she did not call him in the odd hoursā¦but nowā¦
āAnand are you in sleeping moodā¦ā
āOh not exactly.I am little bit tired and was unnecessarily busy the whole dayā¦ā
āWith whomā¦any body new in your life? Divine cut a joke.ā
āNo ā¦the same old guy Mr. Charan whom I want to leave nowā¦ā
āWhere were you the whole dayā¦I was waiting for you? ā
āWe had lot of meetings one after the otherā¦from the level of C.M to the peon of guest houseā¦ā
āOh thatās the matterā¦I know you donāt tell lie to me. .Anand you are an important man, important for Divineā¦but you have broken your promiseā¦ā
āWhatās that I really donāt understand?ā
I waited for you whole the day ā¦ took mom to my brotherās home to have full day for youā¦I was waiting for your callā¦ā
āDivine we will meet tomorrowā¦āAnand told her.
āNo Anand, please come for five minute and then you can goā¦are you coming. ?..And she kept the phoneā¦
Anand felt uneasy. .What happened to Divine. Why she was behaving like that..?
Anand was roving in the boat of uncertainty. He thought perhaps a new adventurous phase had started in his lifeā¦that all seemed to be the outcome of his coming closer to Divineā¦He did not change his clothes and came out in his night dressā¦but then suddenly there was another ringā¦he was about to start his scooter ā¦first he thought of not attending to phoneā¦but then he thought if this is Bhairviās callā¦what he will say?
He placed the lock on the scooter ā¦came back to the other corner of the roomā¦took receiver in his handā¦ andā¦
āAnand dear, please donāt come nowā¦I really feel sorry to disturb your sleep at this odd hourā¦.Sleep well. ...have good dreamsā¦ letās meet to-morrow.ā She put the phone. But Anand was still holding it in a state of confusion. .The wave of insecurity could take of a tide any moment, he thoughtā¦he was feeling bit shiveringā¦his eyes burningā¦throat was dry. .he was just aloneā¦few days back he was in Bhairviās arms and both took high flights dreaming about the new babyās future. She had come back from the nursing home to stay for few more days with her mother in Kohefizaā¦Perhaps it might take a weekā¦after that she would come to her new dream house ā¦her husbandās real home.
She was very happy when Anand told her about the new University jobā¦actually she took it as a blessing of mother godess and a good sign and co-incidence attached to the birth of their first child. ā¦Anand was feeling relaxed with the positive streams of thoughts remembering the recent days he spent with his wife and childā¦he thought of giving new name to his sonā¦Ashutoshā¦by now every one was calling him by the nick name Pintooā¦Anand had to again go to Bhopal for conducting some worship etc, as according to the astral chart the new baby was born in melefic mars sign that was considered inauspicious for her mother ā¦with these thoughts he was struggling to sleep..
And there was another ring. He was scared by the very idea.if the call was of Divine again. But when he took the receiver it was Bhairviā¦after few minutes he informed her that he was tired and was almost gone for his sleeps.Bhaivi told him good night.
41/NEW SEEDS
Anand could not sleep whole night as there was another phone bell.It was 3.30 late night.Who it might be nowā¦was it Divine.?
Anand was thrilled by her wavering voiceā¦she was under influence of wine.
āDear Anand ā¦now this is my order this timeā¦never see me in your future lifeā¦.how long can anybody wait for youā¦You have become so special ā¦you made promises and then broke itā¦I am half Divine and half Anand telling you not to come to me againā¦after you gave me your first kissā¦I have become half Anand ā¦āShe was floating in romantic moodā¦Are you silent Anandā¦I am sleepless without you nowā¦you have taken all my sleepsā¦!
Anand did not have courage to even reply to her wordsā¦this was the most dreadful night of his lifeā¦The situation was worseningā¦the mistakes he was committingā¦he was solely responsible for all that. The seeds of sin were germinating in their new relation, that was absolutely immoral and the situation was alarming. Rather both of them were moving on the wrong paths
ā¦
Anand remembered each word of Divine, as she was speaking with interruptions, calling him again and again on telephone, expressing herself in the most absurd mannerā¦ that he never heard before from her. Any way he decided to go to her house as early as possible so that he can bring her to normalcyā¦He locked his house and reached there within an hour. The morning walkers were on the roads. in the PublicPark, on benches .old and young enjoying the fresh air of natureā¦even at the time when he was entering the house of Divine a newly married couple living in her neighborhood took notice of him and glanced at him in a typical questioning way as if they were the parents of Divine. .He also felt that they were feeling bad about his visit so early in the morningā¦for that moment he thought ,his visit might be exposed and they might communicate about his frequent visits to her brothersā¦for his own satisfaction he thought that if anything wrong happened he would make clear with her brothers that he visited her in the morning because there were urgency regarding the literacy mela being organizedā¦as Divine was already offered the job for this programā¦but then another afterthought took birth in his mindā¦he would talk about some urgent sketches pending to be completed by herā¦but then he decided not to bother himself too much for these petty matters..
Divine opened the door. She was not in her proper dressā¦Anand for a moment wanted to console himself that the affect of wine was not there in her behaviorā¦that way she was normal..
āCome Anand comeā¦āShe went inside her house, changed her dress ,after putting a night gown on her petticoat told him to wait till she brings tea for him
āMy congratulations to youā¦for the offer of Asst Registrar post in Kota University.ā
āOh thank you Anand .but this is all due to you.āShe told him.She was normal but her mood was in little tensionā
āWhat happened to you at nightā¦.did youā¦āHe could not complete his sentence..
āNoā¦. never Anand .were you scarred ā¦it was just my dramaā¦donāt you feel it nowā¦ā
āYou could also do that I never imagined. .Anand felt relaxedā¦ The tea too was very refreshing.ā
āBut you are still under stress. I have never seen it on your face before. .āHe wanted to know the reason of stiffness on her faceā¦ā
āI may not join the University job-She told him in the dead-slow manner.
āIs it not a good offer?ā
āNot that .Actually I am going to be married in the next month. āDivine told her.
āItās good newsā¦ā
āNot really goodā¦the boy is in U.K.He is there with some INGO, perhaps working with CROSSFAM, a British donor agency and will be here in India for only seven daysā¦ and after marriage will take me with him..ā
āBut then what is bad about it?ā
āAnand he is not a proper match. I have known from my cousin his past credentials are not good. .He was thrown away from St. Marry Catholic Church because of his misconducts with ladies in Bombay.ā
āBut you never told me all thatā¦ā
āThe proposal is from my Bhabhiās sideā¦She thinks he is a very good match.ā
āWhen exactly did you know about it? Anand asked.
āJust a month back and I was in a state of confusionā¦I even decided to go against the wishes of my parents but they all feel, if I donāt marry now. .my mother will be shockedā¦she is also on her last legs and wants to see me married. .āDivine told.
āSo this is the matterā¦ā
āMy so called fiancĆ© will be here for a conference at Buharu near Ajmer. For two days earlier, but would be little bit free to meet me..He will be busy in installation of a Windmill there.ā
āHad he met you earlier in your life? Anand questioned her.
āNeverā¦and he had also agreed for marriage by seeing my photograph onlyā
ā¦..Then all of a sudden Divine became consciousā¦She told
Anand-āI am unnecessarily pulling you in my personal mattersā¦now tell me how is your Bhairvi?
āShe is good ā¦happy with the new baby.ā
āFantasticā¦She is really very lucky.ā
āI thought to give my son a name Ashutosh.ā
āIs she coming soon?
āShe will attend your marriage .Now this will be her time to say you good bye, wishing you a happy married life.ā
āIf itās really happy .I donāt think it will be a happy marriage Anandā¦!
With this ending sad note by Divine, Anand left her homeā¦He was unable to think anything in the forward direction. But one thing he decided that sooner or later he will leave his University
job
What had been smoking in the mind of Anand since long took a shape of fire in his heartā¦Just after meeting with Divine, Anand too started thinking that before Mela he will leave the ship of corruption, boldly and bravely expose the hidden loot and financial irregularities and other wrong practice of . Charan was by now a living symbol of corruption. He thought of disclosing some filthy facts of his character to his close journalist friends so that at least one day before the Mela his shaddy character and the frauds are brought to the notice of Youth leaderMr. Gandhi.Anand had still wishful ideas and wanted that the proper enquiry was conducted, against the so called literacy drive and the manipulative game of Charan. He was chalking out his strategy of exposing the literacy campaign, then and there his door was knocked and to his surpriseā¦Divine was there before his eyeās.-āOh, Divineā¦please come in.ā
āNo please, I donāt come, now you come out and see what a surprise I give you.Be ready for that.'
Anand could not understand what was there to see. It really glittered in his eyes... outside his house. New red Maruti car..!
āAnand this is from the first lot first car .The manager of Baroda Bank himself had brought key of the car for me, as it was special instruction from his head officeā¦I had to simply sign on the papers ..Now I am the pride owner of the carā¦the driver is there. ..Letās enjoy the ride. .āDivine was telling him all in excitement.
Anand was really surprised by such initiative and favor from Charanās sideā¦He was not in a mood to join Divine..who was definitely interested to take him out for a joy ride on her new carā¦Divine told him good byeā¦ and a young un-known boy drove her away from himā¦Anand understood the inside game of Charan, who had thrown a long rope for Divine ..Under his political advice and favours he wanted to exploit Divine then, which had been his most favorite sport .
