her a minute longer, โ€œBut what about Patrick?โ€ he said finally.
This time both Lissie and Rachel gasped, โ€œYou knew about that?โ€ Lissie demanded. At the Same time Rachel slapped him. โ€œNosy Butt!โ€
This time Simon really grinned as he shrugged, โ€œI was always keeping tabs on you. Making sure you were safe.โ€
โ€œUh-huhโ€ Lissie narrowed her eyes.
He held up two fingers, โ€œScoutโ€™s honor.โ€
Lissie rolled her eyes at the same time Charles said. โ€œYouโ€™ve never been in scouts.โ€
Simon scowled, โ€œHey, Iโ€™m trying to work the ladies dude!โ€
โ€œWell itโ€™s not working stud.โ€ Thomas said dryly.
Simon gave him a weird look, โ€œCreepy man, that was Creepy.โ€
Thomas shrugged with a smile, โ€œwhatever.โ€

Lissie watched them as they bantered on, her mind processing everything that had happened today.
She was going to be out of contact with them all for a long while. Maybe even permanently, God forbid; But perhaps not. Being undercover was a difficult process, you had to erase everything from your past and step into the mask of a different person. But this time she was going as herself, nothing would change; But the fact that she would be friendless. Lissie would only be able to talk to Rachel for emergencies or if she needed anything, same with Thomas and Charles.
Simon on the other hand, would be her only connection.

Chapter four

It was a quiet day in Downtown Palestine. A few people strolled around window shopping, swinging their bags around lazily. As they peered into the large windows, that each store showed their wares in. But the quiet was disturbed by a running man, shoving his way through people who shouted in surprised anger. He was followed by two other men, hard at his heels.
The first one wore a leather jacket, for the cool fall air, dark gray pants and a black shirt. His reddish blond hair and blue eyes clashed against his partner, who was right behind him. Dark skinned from his Black and Hispanic heritage. He was a bit taller then his partner, built thinner like a runner, while the other was more muscular. He passed his partner, wearing a bright blue hoodie and black sweats.
โ€œYou follow, Iโ€™ll cut him offโ€ the red head shouted in a Scottish accented voice, as he veered into an alley.
Nodding, the taller guy continued the chase. The perpetrator oblivious to what was said ran right into the trap, He turned down another ally, but was stopped cold when a fist shot out from the side punching him right in the temple. He crumbled to the ground.
โ€œWhat do you think Pedro, should we drag or carry the bugger?โ€
Pedro laughed breathlessly, โ€œI say drag, Marcus,โ€ he said trying to cool off by flapping his hoodie.
Marcus grinned, and then looked down when his eye caught some movement, โ€œOi Pedro, our little man is actually awake.โ€ He said squatting next to the guy.
Pedro walked over to stand beside Marcus. โ€œGood, saves a trip to the hospital, and all that damn paperwork.โ€
โ€œYou hit me!โ€ he moaned shrilly. Marcus nodded
โ€œThatโ€™s what happens when you run from the cops.โ€ He said pulling out his badge and waving it in front of the guy.
He moaned again.
Thirty minutes later, Marcus and Pedro strode out of the police station. โ€œI hate lawyers.โ€ Pedro grumbled as he reached into his deep pockets searching for his keys.
Marcus stretched, โ€œTell me about it. One day Iโ€™m going to finally shoot the next one that says. I advise you, as your lawyer, not to say another word. you have rights!โ€ he quoted mockingly.
Pedro laughed, โ€œYea, like we da bad guys, I mean come on man. We put our lives on the line every day. 24/7.โ€
Marcus stopped and looked at him with raised eyebrows, โ€œYouโ€™re kidding right. Pedro this is Palestine, what the hell happens here?โ€ he demanded.
Pedro paused, and then snapped his fingers, โ€œI know,โ€ He straightened his hoodie and took on an overly formal pose.
โ€œWe have, dear sirโ€ he bowed to Marcus, who covered his face with a single hand. โ€œOh boyโ€ he muttered.
โ€œParades, we have nasty little black, white and Mexican children that graffiti Palestineโ€™s fine establishments. And a marvelous display of fireworks every New years eve.โ€ Pedro rambled on, poking at Marcus and arrogantly circling him, Till Marcus interrupted him.
โ€œFourth of July.โ€
Pedro stopped, โ€œWhat did you say my good manโ€ he said arrogantly, moving to stand in front of a smirking Marcus.
Marcus looked up at him, โ€œthe fireworks are every Fourth of July.โ€ He repeated. โ€œAnd how does that put our lives in jeopardy 24/7?โ€
Pedro shrugged, โ€œI dunnoโ€ he said grinning, his pearly white teeth gleaming in the moonlight.
Marcus shook his head and headed for his truck, โ€œIโ€™m going to my quiet apartment, for a nice meal with a sane friend.โ€
Pedro laughed, โ€œNight amigo,โ€ he yelled as he jogged over to his own vehicle.
Marcus waved and was about to get in his truck when Pedro yelled. โ€œYo, What you gonna do tomorrow?โ€
โ€œWork.โ€ Marcus replied.
Pedro slapped his hands on the hood of his car. โ€œCome on man, me and the dudes was gonna go shoot skeetโ€™s. Thought you could come to, its Saturday.โ€
Marcus shook his head as he slid into his car, โ€œNext time Ped.โ€
Pedro watched him drive off, โ€œMan, youse loco.โ€ He muttered.
