butterflies and animals!β She said in a higher voice.
βThats what I liked when I was a little girl.β I told her. Mat gave me a look that said, βI know what you liked a little girl and pink was not it.β I just smiled at him. She sat on her bed and looked at us.
βIβve never had a room to myself before.β She said. Matthew and I both chuckled.
βCome on, its lunch time.β He said and helped her onto his shoulders. I watched them go down the stairs and thought to myself, what if I miss out on this?
Today is Sallyβs birthday. We decided to have a small party at our house. Since Sally doesnβt know any children from our neighbor hood we had the whole Orphanage come. She was so excited to see her friends. The first one she ran to was Karen. She was a little girl the same age as Sally. Sally didnβt interact much with the other children. I noticed that even at school Sally didnβt interact with many children. Sally made a wish and blew out her candles.
βWhat did you wish for?β Matthew asked her as he picked her up and sat her on his lap.
βI asked that you never leave me.β She said. The way she said it was so sweet. She slurred on some of the words and she had that innocent voice.
βI will never ever leave you.β Mat said to her and gave her a hug.
βDaddy, can I go play?β She asked him and Mats face lost all emotion. I walked over to her.
βYes honey, you can go play.β I told her and helped her down. βAre you okay?β I asked him.
βShe called me Daddy.β He stated. βIβm a Dad.β
βYes, did this just occur to you?β I asked with a laugh. He shook his head.
βI love you.β He said and then kissed me.
βGo serve the cake, Daddy.β I told him and he walked away with a big smile and a chuckle.
Its been about three months since we adopted Sally. She is the best child anyone can ask for. Tonight I tucked her into bed and Matthew watched from the door.
βGood night.β I said after tucking her in and reading her favorite story. I was about to get up when she grabbed my hand. She leaned up and kissed my cheek.
βI love you Mommy.β She said. That was the first time she said any of those words. My eyes watered up.
βI love you too, Sally.β I told her and got up and Mat shut the door. He wiped my tears.
βThose are tears of happiness, right?β He asked. I was so over flowed with happiness I couldnβt even talk. I just nodded my head.
Every night I pray to thank God for Rachel and what she did for me, I donβt know what I would do if I miss out on this. I still wonder one thing, what happened to Melinda Jane Mur?
