The shot meant nothing for the man.

He stood up, but was no longer human.

I witnessed the scene, however, I couldn't think of how to put it into words.

The man was what most people would like to call a zombie.

I couldn't scream; it would only cause trouble for myself and the other survivors.

How could something like this have happened? Blood dripping on the upholstery of a car, steam coming out of the hood, sirens flaring, but for what purpose? He was already dead. No one could change that fact, or that he had unfinished business on this earth. So, his spirit sat back and watched the gruesome scene for a moment, trying to think of what he needed to do.

Malcom studied the scrap of map, trying to decide if evac was late, or if he was in the wrong place. He lost the radio with the rest of his squad, and spent his last three rounds of ammo on a kid hardly bigger than the rifle he was firing. Malcom hated scratching that kill into his stock, but he marked them all; it's no help pretending it didn't happen. He was lost, but at least he knew how he got there.
