The Vampire

Enviro got up from his casket, throwing the lid back. It was dark in the crypt, totally pitch black. But that was no problem for him; his eyes gleamed red in the dark and he confidently made his was to the door, swinging it open with a loud creak on its rusty hinges. It was dark outside, as he needed it. The only light came from a crescent moon hanging low over the horizon. It was a clear night and the stars shone like brilliant diamonds. It was also cold, bitterly so. But he did not feel it. He was immune to most needs and concerns, except the one that fired him now: he needed blood, fresh blood. If he did not get it, he would degenerate to a dormant state.
He had not come all this way from Transylvania to perish here. With the aid of the Vaserati, he had been shipped over on a vessel, lying in a coffin in the ships hold. He had a lean time of it there, being only able to feed his hunger on a sleeping crewman once. But had dared not feed more. Once in this country they had the coffin deposited in the crypt; it was now up to him to feed.
He walked towards the cemetery wall walking among the tombstones taking no notice of them whatever. Once at the wall he jumped to the top of the eight foot wall and levered himself up effortlessly, with a strength not available to a human. He looked carefully at the top to see if anyone was around before he vaulted over.
He found himself on a deserted street, with the cemetery wall behind him and a row of trees in front of him. Off to his right he could see the lights of houses.
He began to walk towards them, silently, taking in every detail of his surroundings. The hunt was on and he exhilarated in it. Ahead appeared a figure walking down the street. As he got closer, he could see that it was a middle aged man.
Enviro walked faster. This would be a good catch. The man was heavy and would have a good supply of blood. The situation was perfect; no one else was on the street. He came closer to the man.
The man turned and looked at him with surprise, eyes wide. A surge of disappointment came over Enviro. It would have been better had the man been taken unaware. After the feeding he would wake up feeling just a little weak and with two sore spots on his neck. But being as he saw Enviro, there would be no choice but to kill him.
β€œHey buddy–I didn’t hear you...”
Just then Enviro saw the girl. She was walking across the street and his eyes riveted on her.
Enviro ignored the man and kept on walking in the same direction that the girl was going.
She was tall and had an angular but beautiful face with a long nose, generous mouth, gorgeous dark brown eyes and a voluptuous figure enhanced by a red dress that clung to her body. But it was not her attractiveness that interested Enviro. There was something about her that drew him. He could not think what it was but he had to find out–and she would serve just as well as the man for a feeding.
He followed her down the street, dark except for a few isolated street lamps. He kept a distance of about a hundred yards from her, enough to keep her in sight but not too close.
Then she turned, silhouetted under a street lamp, and looked at him. Enviro kept on walking until he came to a side street just ahead then he turned into it. The girl kept on watching him as he went inside. He could have run after her, but he did not want her to scream and draw attention to him.
He counted up to 50 and went carefully to the corner and peered around. She was no longer staring at him but had continued to walk away. Enviro followed her but at a more discreet distance. Then he saw her enter a building.
It was a small three story apartment building. He waited. All the lights were out in the building except for one that came on a few minutes after she had entered. His sharp eyes caught sight of her figure silhouetted against the curtains. She was on the top floor.
He advanced towards the building sizing it up. It would not do to enter through the front as it would have a security lock. Even if he could enter she would not open the door to him. He went around the back and saw a tall elm tree near the building. Without hesitation he leaped into it and was soon at the top. His physical power enabled him to do this with ease. At the top of the tree was a gap of some ten feet to the building. He lined himself up so that he was near a balcony that jutted out from the wall. He leaped and caught the railing, his strong hands grasping it firmly with claws extending into the wood. Then he was standing on the balcony.
This was not the apartment he was looking for. That was on the other side of the building. He leaped up and caught the edge of the parapet and pulled himself over onto the roof. He walked rapidly to the edge near her apartment. Once there he looked over and could see no light on her balcony. He went over the edge and landed, cat-like on her balcony. He tried the sliding glass door and it opened easily. Few people would take the precaution of locking an upstairs window. He looked into a dark room and saw furniture; it was the living room. From somewhere in the house he heard water running. Silently he went towards it.
He was looking into a bedroom. On the bed was her red dress and the sound was coming from an attached bathroom. He went towards it on the balls of his feet, the blood hunger starting to rise within him.
He came to the door and saw her outlined in the shower, hearing the water running. He would wait until she was done and came out; then she would be most vulnerable.
As he went to a corner of the room he noticed something on the dresser, something that startled him.
β€œWhat are you doing here?” said the women. She said it like a question, not showing the slightest sign of fear. She stood looking at him naked except for a towel in her hand, her hair disheveled from drying it.
Enviro advanced on her feeling an overwhelming lust not for her body but for her blood. Especially this blood; he knew it would be something special. The nails on his hands extended into claws and fangs developed in his mouth. His skin underwent a distortion two and turned a purplish color. His eyes burned red now, glowing with an inner fire.
The women did not run away but just stood there watching him. Then he grabbed her by the shoulders and began to lower his mouth to her jugular vein.
But a change had come over the women too. Her eyes glowed with an inner fire as well. With startling strength she threw off his hands and grabbed him by the neck bearing him down with incredible strength to the ground. Her mouth too grew incisors. He struggled in vein shocked at how strong she was.
β€œI have fed too. Earlier this night. But you will do just as well my friend,” she said as her fangs bore into his neck, making him weaker....weaker.... wea...
