Oh. My. God. You will NOT believe what Gabby did today! She totally freaked out and broke up with Jack. Who would be stupid enough to break up with the star of the football team? Oh, well. We all make mistakes. Momβs taking me to the mall tomorrow, yay! Hopefully Iβll see jack, I mean, if Gabbyβs not going to date him, I might as well, right? I canβt believe how amazing this year has been! Itβs summer already! Look out, school! Next year weβll be sophomores!
Love,
Carebear (Kerri)
Looking back at that old diary entry, I have no idea how I could have been that happy. Ever. It seems impossible to me now, only 3 months after that was written- the last happy entry in my diary. I still write, of course. I have to. My diary is the only one I can talk to. The only one I can trust. That entry was from the day before my dad hit my mom; the day before she finally decided sheβd had enough; the day before she packed up and left; the day before my entire world collapsed. At first my friends all gathered around me. After about two weeks though, their happiness was too much. I pulled back, refusing to talk to any of them. When they saw me on the streets, they didnβt realize it anymore. I had taken the blonde dye out of my hair so it was back to black. I went on a shopping spree with my sister and bought all black. I had also demanded to legally change my first and middle name. At first, I only wore a little black- a shirt here or a pair of jeans there- but then my dad started hitting me and my sister. After that, everything went to hell. I wore all black, all the time. When my sister left, I started wearing long sleeves and jackets because I would rather sweat than have everyone see my scars.
And in this horrible state of body, mind, and emotions, I started my first day of school.
