The Promised Ones

It was cold. Well more freezing then Gracie had ever felt it be at this time of year. Maybe the whole world knew and was in as much mourning as she was for her mothers death. Her mother was warm and as she left this world, she had left it cold. Gracie shivered once more. The snow, sprinkled on the ground like sprinkles. It just barely covering the green grass underneath.
Today was the funeral. Today was the day Gracie was expected to say goodbye. Goodbye to her mother. Goodbye to the woman that made such a big impact on her life. And taught her to be true to herself and no one else.
Gracie had lived by these words. What else could she do? She was different. She like different things then anyone else in her school. And frankly that was okay. All of them had came to except it. Not like any of them had a choice in the first place. Her whole world had changed when she accepted to be who she was. And accepting the girl inside would have been impossible without her mother.
Gracie layed in her bed. She just stared at the ceiling. Her bed had been her sanctuary for the last month. School hadnโ€™t even crossed her mind. And should it? What girl in the whole world would think about math instead of the death of her own mother? Gracie sighed lightly. Her fingers traced across the lining of the black and red laced quilt of her bed. She knew what she would wear to the farewell to her mother.
The dress her mother had made just for her. It was going to be a change from her not expecting new home made clothes every week. Let alone daily shopping sprees. Her mother was a fashion designer. She had her own store for gods sake. Her clothes were darker then what you would assume a mother to make. But her clothes reflected her life.
Marrissa Lyn Baily was the most talented person Gracie had ever known. Grace idolized her for how her mother changed her whole life around. Her mother gave birth to her sister at 16. She then finished highschool as a full time mom. Her and gracieโ€™s dad had been married for 3 years when her mother was accepted into an arts school. All payments paid. The school was too honored to even have her enter. When her mother was 22 she had been in college for 2 years and had given birth to Gracie. Marrissa was extremelly inteligent. At 16 she was a senior. She wore the same clothes as Gracie did at her own age.
The dark clothing, band shirts, and skinny jeans. It wasnโ€™t exactly excepted then. Not even close. Gracieโ€™s parents were more then the perfect couple. Her sister Angela had enjoyed them both far longer then she had. Her mother had an enduring past. That even made Gracie shiver. Her mother was raped by one of her college professors at her last year of college. That was when Gracieโ€™s dad decided to leave. Her parents were more then perfect but even the most perfect couples can break.
At hearing the news from his wife Graham Baily Left. He always expected her mother to cheat. No one ever knew why. Her mother loved him more then life itself. But he left and no one heard from him. At that time her mom was 28 making Gracie at the young age of 6. There were few pictures of her father around the house. Only one was put in plain view and was in a portrait on the wall. It was of Gracie in her fathers arms. Him holding her tight and Gracie laughing with the biggest smile on her face.
After that her mom pursued her fashion carreer her art school more then willing to sponser her work. At 30 she had her own brand name and her clothing was selling more then ever. She had a book filled with thousands of clothing ideas. Sponsers of her work took the book and made a copy of it. Workers were making the clothing inside as we speak. The original book given to Gracie. Angela hadnโ€™t been a big part of her life. She left soon after her father did. Gracie hadnโ€™t seen her in about 7 years since Angela decided to live with her grandma when she was 14 and Gracie was 8.
Gracie sighed and slid her legs over the side of her bed. She sniffed the air. Bacon. She sniffed again. Eggs...maybe waffles and syrup. Her aunt was her guardian. It was clearly stated in her mothers will. Her aunt was only 25. She was the reflection of Gracies mother with only a few minor differences. Her aunt, Mary had green eyes instead of blue and was short instead of tall. Other then that the spitting image of her mother.
Gracie then pushed the covers down to the edge of the bed. Her black patrick star pajama pants and black tank top now in full view. The day her mother died was the worst day of her life. It was all her fault. Gracie thought. She then shook the thought from her mind. She hadnโ€™t eaten in two days. She needed food.

โ€œGracie! Come on! Youโ€™ve been up in that room for days now! Come down here!โ€ She heard her aunt yell up the stair well. Gracie groaned. Her now black and purple hair down at her shoulders. Its ends reaching all the way to her waist. It had taken her years to grow it all out. Her mother had been having her do it since she was 2. And this is where it had ended. Gracies hair was board straight thankfully. Her friends had the pleasure of having to straighten there hair everyday. And which her hair is what they envied.
She stepped onto the black rug of her room. The red walls covered with black lace at the top then band posters. Her flat screen rested on the far wall in front of her bed. A dark red dresser was underneath the tv, perfume and hair products and makeup covered the top of it. On the side wall was a big window with a red laced window seat. The drapes made by her mother had every band that Gracie had ever came to likes name in them. The drapes reached the top of the ceiling all the way down to her window seat. A black chandelier hung from the center of the ceiling. Her closet door was on the right side wall next to her bathroom.
The bathroom was basic. The house was over 200 years old to begin with anyway. The bathroom had a shower and toilet then a full length mirror. Gracie opened her door and stepped down to the hallway. The hallway was very big and had 5 bedrooms leading off the side of it. Bathrooms and the servants stairwell broke it off which made it wrap around in a complete circle. The house was about 4 stories. It had many bedrooms along with bathrooms.
Gracie walked down the hallway. She groaned. Over the past month she had become extremely lazy. She had used the servant stairwell atleast 10 times. A couple times to use the bathroom that lied in the hallway that ran off of it, and few times to reach the kitchen to steal a yogurt or two. The stairwell was very thin and creaked at times as you walked. The servant wing was her favorite part. It was known to be haunted. Her house keeper that came in on weekends always kept that wing nice to please the paranormal beings.
The servant wing had the stairwell that went down and the sleek stairwell that circled and went up to the very top floor. Gracie walked past the stairwell and to the regular stairs that lied in front of a tapestry of the first family that lived here. Gracie ran her fingers across it then turned and sat on the banister and pushed. Her body then slid down the banister. It screeched as her body turned as it went around and around. She then was an inch from meeting the end of the banister which was a gargoyle and jumped off. Her aunt stood in the door way of the kitchen. She cocked an eyebrow.

โ€œI bet if the servants of the house knew you were doing that theyโ€™d die.โ€She joked. Mary had heard of the things gracies mother and her had said about the house and the beings living in it other then them. She was as fascinated in it as they were. Gracie then walked into the kitchen and stood. Leaning against the counter. All the appliances were old. There were two stoves. One a wood stove and the other a gas stove. Her mother had loved everything of the house including the kitchen.

โ€œGo sit in the dining room iโ€™m putting all the food on plates out there.โ€ Mary ordered. Gracie sighed and nodded. She walked past all the counters and the door that led into the huge laundry room and walked into the dining room. It had a big mirror surrounded by a wooden cabanent. Her mother had restored every aspect of the house with her friends from her art school. Not one of them could refuse. Her friends were like family and stayed here a lot. Hell the house had enough room.
Gracie slid into her seat at the side of the table next to the head of the table, where her mother usually sat. In her head she imagined her mom sitting there. Her bright red hair in curls from sleep down onto her shoulders. Her laughing with syrup from the waffles in her mouthing running down her lips and chin back down onto her plate. A tear traced down Gracieโ€™s cheek. She shook her head again as her aunt walked in with her arms filled with plates of food. She couldnโ€™t make her aunt cry again.
Mary then laid all the plates down the center of the table. She sat across from Gracie, avoiding her sisters chair and sitting down. She passed Gracie a plate. The plate slid right across into Gracieโ€™s view. Gracie grabbed it quickly and reach for the pancakes. She piled 3 of them onto her plate and grabbed the syrup pouring its contents onto the food. She then set it back down and reached for the ham. There were atleast 10 slices if it.
Gracie piled the meat onto her plate. The syrup seeping on to the ham. She grabbed the fork and began to stuff her face. Not very lady like Gracie thought. But at the moment she didnโ€™t care. Her aunt watched her intently. A slight shade of disgust hovering over her face. Gracie then caught her aunts eyes. She smiled wide. The pancakes and syrup covering over her teeth. Her cheeks bulged out. Mary and Gracie bursted out laughing. Gracie trying her hardest not to have the contents of her mouth cover the table.Mary and Gracie knew what today was and they both knew her mom wouldnโ€™t want them to be unhappy when they said there goodbyes.
