Preface

Once upon a time in the far away kingdom of Voltaire, there lived a king and queen. The king and queen had long given up the dream of having a child. One day they were blessed with a beautiful daughter they called Racindine Roseann. She was tiny and had beautiful rose colored hair.
When Racindine grew to be one year old, she was the happiest child in the whole world. She had a wonderful mommy and papa. She thought it couldn't get any better. Racindine had a gift, and with all gifts, everyone wished to steal it.
Racindine could speak of the future. She could help you live forever if you wanted. On Racindine's second birthday, the kingdom was attacked by pirates. The king and queen died protecting her as she slept peacefully. As the Queen fell, she placed a curse on her only daughter to protect her.
The curse stated that Racindine could never have skin to skin contact without stealing the person's life force and skills. Now, Racindine was a very clever two year old, so she let herself be taken by the pirate king. At least that is how the story is told. It's time for my version.
I am Racindine Roseann Capulet, Princess to the long ago destroyed Voltaire, and I am also Rose, Pirate Queen. Since Voltaire was destroyed I became Rose a Pirate Queen. Here is my story.

Chapter One

I was thrown from my bed as a rough wave hit the side of my ship. If there was any harm done to my ship, there would be hell to pay was my only thought as I got to my feet and walked to my closet to put on my clothes.
I could hear my men running around on the deck. That was my first clue that this was no ordinary wave. Shouts filled the air as I raced out of my cabin. At eighteen, I was the youngest Female Captain of pirates. Actually I was the youngest period.
Everyone raced around without using a single sword as my eyes fell on my first mate, Manako. Everyone on my ship knew of my curse and why I wore thick gloves. Anger coarsed through me as I saw my men weaponless.
"Manako, why the hell doesn't anyone have any weapons?" I demanded.
"The weapon hold is locked," he replied as I dove under a blade pulling my personal sword from its sheath.
"Why the hell didn't you open the bloody thing?" I snapped as my blade shook from the force of a blow that landed across it.
"I lost my key," he replied ashamedly.
"Bloody hell, Manako, why didn't you wake me," I asked turning on him.
"I thought you needed your beauty," he started.
The fighting seemed to cease as everyone watched me. I shook violently with rage as I saw red. In three strides I was in front of him. I forced my sword through his still body and watched with a sickening cheer as his life force left his eyes. I could feel the life force move through my sword into myself.
"Percy, congradulations, you've been promoted," I said tossing him the key to the weapon hold as I wiped the blood on my pantleg.
