I remember my baby life pretty clearly.
When I was born, I was crying when a nurse picked me up. Washing me just caused me to scream my head off (I am so good at exaggerating)! Once I'd been washed and dried, I was passed to Mama. She sat up when she was holding me. I suddenly stopped crying. All the nurses were 'Ahhh'ing when I wrapped my tiny baby fingers around Mama's thumb. She whispered something in my ear which I remember as clear as water.
'I'm never going to let you go, Melodie.'
She was wrong.
We had a really old and grouchy neighbor, Mrs Greentree. She HATED me and Mama. No... absolutely DETESTED
us!
Well, Mama was rocking me in the front garden, until a van drew up. It said: Mrs Smith's Care Home for Extremely Bad Children
. I had not been bad. Well, I had been a bit noisy, but NOT bad.
Two ladies came out in Victorian-looking uniforms, with aprons and tippets.
'Alright, Rose, pass Melodie over.' One of them said.
'What?! No! My Melodie is perfectly fine!'
'Well, we had a phonecall from Mrs Veronica Greentree, saying she is fed up of that Melodie. Now HAND HER OVER!'
'NEVER!'
'Well, Rose, we're going to have to do this the hard way now, right, Eve?' one of the ladies said sarcastically.
'Yes, Mrs Smith!' Eve snapped. They both grabbed on to me, their cold, hard hands digging in to my soft, fragile skin. I shrieked. Mama sobbed and reached out to take me back.
'Stop being babyish, Rose!' Mrs Smith yelled, aiming a tranquiliser gun at Mama.
She shot.
Mama screamed.
She toppled backwards.
The van door slammed. I screamed. The ladies screamed at me to shut up. I then said my first word.
Mama.
After 10 minutes of driving, we finally stopped at this tall building. The care home. It had four floors and I could hear lots of screaming. Honestly.
I got taken out and took to the desk.
(I'm only adding this part today... this will hopefully increase over summer.)
