About the Book
Miss Julia Smith peddles flowers for her daily bread, but lands in the Duchess of Arlington’s household when selling blooms becomes unexpectedly hazardous. To Julia’s surprise, Her Grace offers not only safety, but also a chance at a new, fancier life—a life Julia isn’t sure she wants.
Harris Clarendale, Marquess of Ruthven, has seen his dear godmother taken in by one charlatan after another as Her Grace has searched in vain for a missing niece. Harris determines to charm his way past Julia’s defenses, and expose her for the schemer she is. Instead, he finds a woman of wit, honor, and integrity, and more than a little passion, and Julia learns that a fancy lord can also be a decent man with a loyal heart.
When secrets are revealed, will love be enough for Julia and Harris to forge a future together?

Biography
Chapter 1
Covent Garden
London, England
1828
There was no understanding a toff.
Those fancy lords, who had everything under God’s sun, seemed determined to amass it all, and then once they had it, they were content to squander it.
This time, what this gent appeared ready to squander was… flowers.
And a whole lot of them at that.
Waiting in the wings, hovering in the shadows, along with every other flower seller in Covent Garden, Julia Smith intended to make their waste her riches.
“… and it says she is a duchess,” said Adairia, her friend, sister in all but blood, and the only person Julia trusted.
“Imagine that,” Julia murmured, and it was all the other woman needed to hear to continue on with… whatever she was on about.
Not that Adairia needed any encouragement.
She’d been a prattler since they’d found each other as girls on the street outside of a Drury Lane theater. Alone, wearing tattered garments, the girl had been lost and crying, her piteous wailing ignored by all. Except Julia and her mother. Julia’s mother had urged Julia to go collect the lost little girl. Together they’d brought Adairia back to the hovel they’d called home, and there the girl had stayed.
Adairia had always been whimsical.
Hell, when they’d first met, the other young woman had insisted she was a princess and wanted to find the way back to her castle.
Which was why Adairia was the absolute worst person to whom Oswyn, that bloody street tough, could have approached with all this nonsense about Adairia being a ‘lost
