softly spoke in her ear.

She leaned into his embrace and leaned against him. "I have it." He was her peace.

"Good," He kissed the side of her neck, "that's my girl. Now, let your senses reach towards the ground and deep within your world. Search for the prickly sensation of the energy that flows within all worlds."

His praise warmed her heart and made her wonder why she didn't just trust him in the first place. "I don't feel anything. What should the energy feel like? Have I felt it before?"

"Yes, you have." He stepped back breaking his contact with her.

She regretted the question. She turned to face him. "I'm sorry," she stopped herself. "My apologizes for using my abilities against you, Moto." She inclined her head towards Moto.

"It's alright, Kaily," he said. "I know you didn't mean to."

She noticed he didn't say he accepted her apology, at least, not in the way he had before. It hurt her, but she kept it to herself. "My cottage is just over the hill." She turned towards her destination.

He kept step beside her and took her hand in his.

She smiled up at him. It was a smile that did not reach her eyes or her soul.

They walked the rest of the way in silence. She cringed when the Fergusons saw her. There were tears in their eyes and they came running towards her. She dropped his hand and ran to them. They smothered her with kisses, hugs and lectures for scaring them half to death. Tears slipped from her eyes as she hugged them.

"Where have you been?" They both demanded in unison.

"It's complicated." She said with a smile. She wiped away her tears and looked back at Moto. She held her hand out to him. She noticed a slight hesitation before he stepped forward and placed his hand in hers. "This is Moto, the complication," she added with a spark of amusement in her eyes, "Moto, this is Mr. and Mrs. Ferguson."

He nodded to them both.

Kaily winced when Mr. Ferguson dropped the hand, he extended in greeting without Moto having taken it. She probably should have explained a few things to him along the way. She didn't even know if he could speak the language. Dammit, she wished he would open his mind to her. "They live in the house up the way and I reside in this one here." She said in Kahoali, turned towards the Fergusons and switched back to their language, "thank you so much for taking care of everything for me. It is so good to see you both again." She fiercely hugged each again. She walked with them the rest of the way to her cottage. She looked back at Moto who was lagged behind. She frowned at him and indicated with a tilt of her head to join them.

Moto gave a barely perceptible shake of his head.

Kaily sighed and turned her attention back to the Fergusons. They filled her in on what transpired since her absence. They went in with her and bid her to sit. She sat at the kitchen table and watched as Mrs. Ferguson put a teapot on the stove and pulled out food from the icebox. Food was her answer to every stressful situation. Kaily jumped up when she pulled out meat and cheese from the icebox for sandwiches. "Umm, Moto is," she glanced back at him. He entered the cottage but was standing too close to the door for her comfort. She was afraid he was going to bolt, and the looks Mr. Ferguson sent him didn't help the situation. "Vegan," she finished and looked back at Moto who was frowning at her. Trust me, she mouthed to him.

"You don't say." Mrs. Ferguson said eyeing Moto in a way that said she was not convinced. Mr. Ferguson muttered under his breath something about that being bloody annoying.

"I'm tired and not hungry anyway. I'll fix something later for the both of us. I just want to get settled in and show Moto around, if you don't mind?" Kaily hated cutting their time short, but she would have more time later to catch up with them, and she needed to talk to Moto about how things were on her world. Not to mention, she needed to get him away from that damn door.

"Of course, dear," Mrs. Ferguson patted her hand. "We'll stop by later this evening. Come along, let's leave the young people to get settled in." She hooked her arm with Mr. Ferguson's. Mr. Ferguson spared Moto a harsh, warning glare on his way out the door.

"I'm so sorry about that." Kaily said in Kahoali as she walked to Moto. She took his hand in hers and pulled on it until he moved deeper into the room. She led him to the couch and sat.

Moto sat beside her. She felt his reluctance.

Kaily draped her legs over his and snuggled closer to him. She laid her head on his shoulder. "Why did you shut me out of your mind?"

He lifted her chin to look her in the eyes. "I didn't, little one. Your mind has been closed to me since the training room. What happened in there?"

She moved his hand away from under her chin and laid her head back on his shoulder. "I can't, Moto. I can't relive that." Not that she wasn't already reliving it.

"You'll have to relive it sometime, little one." He smoothed her hair and rested his cheek on her head.

"I know. Just not right now, please." She wiped a tear away.

"What is this vegan thing?" He asked instead.

She lifted her head. "You could understand them?"

He nodded. "It's something Shimani and I learned to do from our travels to other worlds. It's my traveling that led me to this world and to you."

"Why were you traveling to other worlds?" She asked. He had yet to tell her how he found her and why he kept coming back.

"It doesn't matter." Moto said. His stomach rumbled.

"Guess it is time to eat. Vegan on
