against his plans he dumped Vida and I with the rest of the slaves and the people he and his bastard crew stole from their homes.

We have been through so much, Vida more than me, and Angel has seen more than anyone her age should see.” I shook my head and used the back of my hand to wipe the tears from my cheeks.

“Where did you meet Angel, where are her parents?”

“Dead, her father tried to get her and her mother away from Alejandro, but he never got close. The bastard made him watch while Angel’s mother had her throat cut and then he killed Angel’s father, all the while the little girl watched. She was still so young that she doesn’t really remember what happened. We all do though, and I have practically adopted her since then.” I looked over to Alex to see he was giving me the strangest look. Suspicious, almost.

“What?” I asked.

“What did you say his name was?”

“Who? Angel’s father?”

“No, the man who brought you over here from Canada.”

“Oh, Alejandro.”

I could see his chest beginning to rise higher and higher, he was getting upset and I didn’t know why. I wanted to put him at ease, I wanted to help him relax, I wanted to see that beautiful smile.

“Don’t look at me like that.”

I blinked a few times and focused on him, ‘What are you talking about? Look at you like what?”

“Like you want to fuck, I have seen that look more than once. From more than a few women. I guarantee that isn’t what you want. You don’t want someone like me. You are just vulnerable and shit right now.”

I looked away, I couldn’t believe that he had just said that to me. Not like he was wrong. It had been a long time since I was this turned on by a man, in fact the last time I was I found myself in the middle of a human trafficking ring. He was right though, this was not the time for me to focus on the fact that Alex was probably one of the most gorgeous people I had ever seen in my life. He was tall and his body wasn’t in the best of condition from what looked like a bit of malnourishment, but I was sure that once he started to eat on a regular basis again he was going to be rock solid. His hair was dark and he sported a scruffy beard that I just wanted to rub against my bare cheek. But the one part of the man that caught me off guard and stole every molecule of breath that I had was his eyes. For sure I could see the evil and anger buried deep in there but more than that I could see the guilt. His eyes were spellbinding and as much as I tried to focus on just the girls and getting out of the mess we were in, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t very much interested in what he was hiding.

“Don’t be silly Alex, I was just trying to figure out why you looked so confused. Or angry. Or is it confused and angry?” I smiled a little but he didn’t return my smile, he just nailed me to the couch with those eyes.

“I am trying to figure out if my luck is just that fucking bad.”

“Excuse me?”

He let out a deep sigh and turned away from me, “What was Alejandro’s last name, do you know?”

“Yeah of course, but what does that have to do with anything?”

“God dammit, just tell me, what it was!” He turned, his eyes bloodshot red and the veins were popping out of his neck.

Vida popped her head of the room once she heard Alex screaming, “Em, everything ok?” I turned to her quickly, “Yeah, Alex is ok, just a bit upset right now.”

Alex turned her way and saw that not only was she out of the room but so was Angel, the anger in his face lessened instantly.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry. Just, can you tell me his last name please?” he focused his attention back to me.

“Vilanuevas, his name is Alejandro Vilanuevas.”

Chapter 10- Alex’s POV

I closed my eyes and just walked away. That man had already destroyed my life. Alejandro Vilanuevas was my own personal Satan. He broke me down to nothing and laughed while he did it. Now the only people who have been able to reach me in months are also on his list to destroy and I know that there is nothing that I can do to save them. I don’t know what the fuck I must have done in a past life to deserve this shit but I wasn’t going to deal with it.

“Hey, hey, what is the problem? Why are you crying?” Mikki grabbed my arm and tried to pull me back.

I raised my hands and sure enough, I was crying again.

What in the actual fuck?

I tried to turn my head so she wouldn’t see me acting like a little bitch but she wasn’t having that. She grabbed my head and forced me to look at her.

“Just because you cry doesn’t mean you are less of a man, it just means you are human and you feel. Tell me, show me, scream at me but don’t shut me out. Let me be here for you.” She swiped a few tears away but didn’t move.

“That man destroyed my life.” I croaked out.

“How do you mean? You know him?” Mikki pulled me back to the couch and we sat.

“Oh… Yeah, I know that fuck.”

“How, did you work for him or something?” She asked her voice getting smaller and smaller.

“What the shit? No, he wanted us to work for him but I wasn’t letting that shit happen. Not under my fucking watch.” I sat back and got ready to tell her the whole story. I was sure she wouldn’t want anything to do with me afterwards, but I had to let
