Once home, Jason bought a floor-model Grundig Majestic stereoāand put the āstill-wonderfulā Columbia 360, in Susanās room. Heād also bought the LP of the Original Cast recording, of āHappy Fellaāāin stereo! Two years later, he would blunder onto an additional album (Costing $39.95)! This treasure-trove contained six magnificent LP stereo discs. The new, āunbelievableā, collection had featured the entire showādialogue and musicāall recorded, on the 12 āsidesā! āRemarkable!ā (Quoth Jason.)
November 22, 1963: JFK assassinated! And Susan had grown ārather sicklyā Jason had hired a pair of full-time nursesāto watch over her! Day and night! She would be 65-years-oldācome February! āStill too youngā¦ to be in the condition, sheās in.ā (Also, quoth Jason.)
That evening, Susan asked Jason to join her, in her āquartersāāadjoining the living room, He couldnāt imagine what this magnificent woman had in mind. Sheād seated herself, on the bedāand indicated he should occupy the overstuffed chair, across from her.
āJason,ā she began, āI donāt have that much time, left here. Soon, Iām going to be joining my husband.ā
āOh, Susie, thatās notā¦ā he blustered. But, she held up a handāand stopped him!
āListen, Honey!ā Her voice appeared to be the slightest bit stronger. āThis is a conversation we need to have! At least, I need it. Jason-Baby, you must . . . you simply have to tell meā¦ tell me, honestly! You must tell meā¦ from where you came!ā
āListen, Susie. This isā¦ā
āJason,ā she interrupted. āIāve saved those dollar billsā¦ the ones you first gave meā¦ back when you came to me. Iād notedā¦ immediately . . . that theyād said āFederal Reserve Noteā. Maybe I shouldnāt have noticed that. Maybe no one else . . . I donāt thinkā¦ wouldāve noticed. But, I noticed! Later, once Iād had a chance to look at them, closely . . . to really inspect themā¦ I could see that they were from the nineteen-nineties!ā
āLook, Susieā¦ā
āFrom the moment, I guessā¦ from the moment I first saw youā¦ Iād always had this feeling! This special feeling, that there was somethingā¦ well, something special! Something special . . . about you! Listen, Jason! From the moment that Jeff . . . that my Jeff . . . from the moment, that he was taken from meā¦ from that moment on . . . I prayed! I prayedā¦ and prayed and prayed! I prayedā¦ and asked The Lord. I pleaded . . . with The Lordā¦ to send me someone! Someoneā¦ to take his place! To take Jeffās place! I was unableā¦ to bear any more children! Jeff wasā¦ to be my only offspring! So, I asked Godā¦ asked Him, again and againā¦ to, please, send me someone! Someoneā¦ to be in Jeffās place! I have the feelingā¦ that Eric had always prayed the same prayer!. He just never would talk about it!ā
āSusie, I canātā¦ā
āThen,ā she resumed, āthere you were! Knocking at my door! In nineteen-forty-two! I didnāt realize itā¦ not right then . . . but, it didnāt take me long to figure out, who you were! Who you actually are! I guess it wasā¦ was when you were trying to lay the most cockamamie story Iād ever heard, on me!ā She was able to muster a smile! A warm smile. One bursting with sincerity! And love! āI realized, then,ā she went on. āRealized that you wereā¦ were that gift! A genuine gift! From God!ā
āAw, Susie. You canāt say that! Not without knowing thatā¦ā
āI can say it! I know it! Know itā¦ for a fact! It took Eric, maybe, a little while longer! Iād never mentioned anything to himā¦ but, eventually, he caught on. He figured it out! Now, listen to me! I know . . . know that, somehow, you were! Were sent to me! And this is the time . . . this is the moment . . . that you need to tell me! You need to level, with me, Jason! From where did you come? Was itā¦ was it from the future?ā
āI donāt knowā¦ donāt know, if I can really tell you, Susie.ā
āWhy? Why, Jason? Why canāt you tell me? What are you afraid of?ā
āIāmā¦ Iām afraid thatā¦ that, if I doā¦ Iām afraid that Iāll get sent back! I donāt want to go back! I really canātā¦ā
āOh, I donāt think that a Godā¦ One who was so loving, so caring . . . would do a thing like that! Not after Heās given you such a beautiful wifeā¦ and three darling daughters. And Heās given you me! I just hope that Iāve given back! Given back enoughā¦ to you, My Dear.ā
He got upāand sat beside her! Then, he put his head downāon her lap! As before! That many years before! Andāhe began to weep! To weepāonce again!
āHe simply would not do that,ā she repeated, softly rubbing the back of his headājust above his skull. āI have no idea . . . about the situation, from which you mightāve come. Butā¦ā
āIt really was not a good one,ā he lamented. The stream of tears lightened, somewhat. But, they continued to come.
āWell, if youāre that afraidā¦ if you feel in that much jeopardyā¦ then, I have no right to ask you toā¦ā
āIām going to tell you,ā he sniffedāand resumed a sitting position. āIām going to tell you! Tell youā¦ anyway! I love you, Susie! Love youā¦ dearly!ā
āEnough to risk losingā¦ losing everything? Donāt you do it, Jason. At this point, I know everything! Everythingā¦ I need to know! Youāre from the future! You are! And you were sent to me! By The Lord . . . Himself! My gift!ā
Again, he put his head down, on her lap! This time, there was no stemming the flow! The dam had burst! The āgiftteeā resumed patting him, on his head!
Ten minutes later, Valerieāever so silentlyāopened the door. Three or four secondsāafter beholding the sceneāshe smiled. And, quietly, she closed the door.
That night, Susan āwent onā¦ to be with The Lord!ā Silently! Happily!
Now she knows . . . for sure! (Well, he was positive that sheād knownāāfor sureāāanyway.)
