Glory let out a sigh. “At least it happened while the place was empty. Did they take anything?”
“I don’t know. Everyone’s left me out of it so I could have this time with my two girls. We can find out more once we have your stuff unloaded at the house. If there was something to worry about, someone would have told me by now.” At least, I hoped there wasn’t anything to worry about. Since I’d asked everyone to leave me alone, there was a chance the situation was worse than it seemed. I wouldn’t know until I either made some calls or dropped by the clinic. Either way, I wanted to hear it without Glory present. I’d keep her informed, if I thought she could be in danger, but that didn’t mean she needed to hear every detail.
“All right.” She reached over and took my hand. “I’ll follow your lead, Max. I can’t promise I’ll always be the submissive little woman who asks how high when you say jump, but I’ll try not to disrespect you in front of your club.”
I smiled and leaned over to kiss her. “Don’t want you all meek and submissive, Glory. I like your fire and determination. But if I give you an order, it’s for your own safety. Disobey and I promise I’ll spank your ass, and not in a fun, sexy way.”
Her cheeks warmed and I knew I’d be finding out more of her likes and dislikes in the bedroom soon enough. The flush on her cheeks made me wonder if spanking might be something she liked or wanted to try at least once. I’d be willing to try most anything with her, as long as she didn’t want anyone else in the bed with us. I drew the line at sharing. I was a selfish bastard and Glory was all mine!
Chapter Five
Glory
When Wolf had said the clinic had been broken into, I didn’t know what I’d pictured. Anything glass had been shattered. The door lock had been busted along with the frame. My desk lay on its side and papers were strewn everywhere.
“It looked worse,” Steel muttered from where he stood with Wolf a few feet away.
I had a hard time picturing how it could have been worse. If they’d already been cleaning up, what exactly had happened in here? Paint had hastily been rolled over part of the wall. I wondered what they were covering up, but now wasn’t the time to ask. For that matter, Wolf might decide I didn’t need to know. He seemed the sort to want to protect me.
I stepped into the exam room and gasped. The padded table had been shredded. Deep grooves covered the walls, like someone had taken metal claws to them. Something sticky had splattered over the floors in different areas.
“Don’t walk through there,” Steel said. “Guy jacked off all over the damn place.”
My nose wrinkled and I backed up. Great. I’d already stepped in some. Now I’d have to burn my shoes because there was no way I’d ever get them clean enough.
“We’re out of commission for a little bit,” Steel said. “Not only do we need to scrub the shit out of this place, but I want better security before we re-open. Those women shouldn’t have to be scared someone will come after them. At least, not while they’re here.”
“What’s Demon said about all this?” Wolf asked.
“He’s asked Outlaw to pull up the footage from any nearby cameras. I almost pity the bastard once Demon finds out who did all this. There won’t be anything left of them.” Steel folded his arms and stared at the utter chaos surrounding us. “Asshole deserves whatever he gets. I just hope he didn’t go after that woman.”
“I understand why the clinic doesn’t have any visible cameras, but I’d thought the club would install discreet ones. I think if it meant the women who came here were safe, they’d understand. You think it’s someone looking for the rape victim we helped last night?” I asked.
“From what Wolf said, the lady who came in acting all twitchy was talking to someone who seemed to be searching for someone. My money is on the rapist trying to find his victim, make sure she keeps quiet. Dipshit didn’t realize by coming here, she wasn’t ready to admit who’d hurt her. If she had been, she’d have gone to the damn hospital instead.” Steel shook his head. “I knew we’d run into trouble. I’d just hoped it wouldn’t happen right away.”
The look he shared with Wolf made me think there was more to it. If it was something I needed to know, I had no doubt Wolf would tell me. Until then, I’d try to keep my curiosity in check.
Wolf rubbed a hand across his jaw, eyeing me. I knew exactly what he was thinking, and he could just forget it.
“No,” I said.
He smirked. “Didn’t say anything, beautiful.”
“You didn’t have to. I know that look already. You don’t like me being here now that trouble has come knocking, and you want to wrap me in cotton and tuck me away somewhere safe.”
Steel snickered. “She’s got you on that one.”
I rolled my eyes. “Like you’d be any different if it were Rachel working here instead of me.”
Steel sobered. “You’re right. None of us like the idea of our women being in danger. And since Wolf just got you, he’s not ready to lose you. Give him some slack, Glory. The boy worked hard to earn your trust.”
I blinked at Wolf being referred to as a boy when he was so much older than me. Then again, Steel looked to be in his fifties or sixties, so to him, Wolf probably was still a kid. My brow furrowed as I studied Steel.
“Isn’t your wife younger than Wolf? If you think he’s a boy, what does that
